Chapter Twenty-Eight: Attraction

“Are you going to spy on me all day?” Leih asked, looking at the far wall.

Psyanne stared at the prince. Did he know she was here?

“Your brother has left; shouldn’t you go with him?” Leih asked as he moved closer to the wall. He didn’t know exactly where she was, but he knew she was there. A great gift she has; if she didn’t come across someone like him.

“How did you know I was here?” She asked as she became visible.

“I have gifts most don’t know about. Why are you spying on me?” He asked as he watched her. She was pretty, with her short brown hair and blue eyes. But she was no Gresha.

“I wasn’t. I was spying on my brother. He has always gotten his way; from the moment he was born. He thinks the High Princess is one of those times he will get what he wants, and no one can stop him.” She said as she pushed herself off the wall.

“Why are you telling me this? Don’t you want your brother to get what he wants?” He asked as he eyed her.

She laughed so hard she doubled over. Leih stared at her, strange reaction.

“Trust me, Prince Leih, I do not want my brother to get what he wants. For one, she has her One. And two, he has always gotten everything handed to him on a gold platter, it will be nice to see him not get something, for a change.”

“I take it, you don’t get what you want,” Leih said as he watched her face turn to a deep frown.

“No, I don’t.” She admitted.

“I see.” He said as he folded his arms over his large chest. “So, what do you recommend I do?” He asked, hoping she would help him out of this hell hole her brother had cornered him into.

“Don’t let him get to you too much.” She said as she watched his eyes skim over her. She knows he’s not looking at her like a man looks at a woman, he was searching her, to see if he can trust her. She took a deep breath; she wasn’t someone men flaunted over. “You can trust me.” She whispered, still watching him.

“We shall see.” He said with a nod.

“My brother likes to show off his gift. He will probably try to get you to power duel with him.” She said with a sigh. “And he is known for cheating. He does have an amazing gift, but so do you. I think you will be the only one to ever beat him if it comes to that. And please don’t hate me when he uses me in the duel. That’s his biggest cheat.”

“Sounds childish to me,” Leih said as he watched her.

“He is. He has so much growing up to do, it’s not funny. And he turned five-hundred and forty-three this year.” She said as she moved towards the door. “And another thing, you may want to go find your princess. If I know my brother, and I do, he probably went to the park to find her.”

“Damn it.” He grumbled angrily as he glared at the door.

“If you call him out with his trickery, I will show myself.” She said as she smiled at his handsome face. “I need to go before I’m missed.” She said, then turned invisible and left the suite.

Leih growled as he headed out the door. These siblings are going to drive him insane! He walked down the halls, in the direction of the park, where his wife had gone off to, with her Snoggle. He hoped he wasn’t too late to help her. He saw a blur coming towards him and barely moved aside in time to avoid it.

“Whoa.” He breathed as Matrios barreled past him in the hall. “Gresha!” He called out as he turned to watch them continue down the hall.

“Go back, Matrios,” Gresha whispered.

‘As you wish, Princess.’

Matrios skidded to a stop as gently as he could and turned around in the same movement. He slowed down and stopped beside Leih in the hall.

“Hello,” Gresha said as she smiled at her husband.

“What happened?” He asked as he watched her face.

“Nothing.” She said, having trouble keeping the smile in place.

Matrios turned his head and nipped at Leih. Leih didn’t move away from the beast, he knew he couldn’t penetrate his skin, but something wasn’t right, for Matrios to nip at him.

‘She’s lying.’

“Hush,” Gresha whispered. “A Kryer can’t lie.”

‘Then you’re holding back the truth.’

Leih heard her whisper and looked at his wife. “Gresha?”

“Everything is fffine Leih. I will see you when you get home.” She assured him as she tapped Matrios on the head. “Let’s go home.” She whispered.

Matrios nipped at Leih again, before he turned and headed back towards their suite. Leih stared after them. Matrios was trying to tell him something. He wished he could hear the Snoggle’s thoughts. And his wife had stuttered, Kryers stutter when they don’t tell the full truth.

He shook his head and started back home.

“What did you do to her?” Psyanne asked her brother as he entered their suite.

“I didn’t do anything.” Justaine denied as he looked at his sister.

“I know better,” Psyanne said as she watched her brother.

“Stay out of it, Psy. It’s none of your business.” He said as he pushed past her and headed for the kitchen.

“Yes, it is. I like it here, and if you get us kicked off this Station…”

“We’re going home as soon as I get my bride.” He said as he opened the fridge door.

“Do you really think the High King would allow that?” She asked as she watched him.

He looked at her and smirked. “It isn’t his choice. She will be my wife.”

“You’re an idiot.” She said as she shook her head.

He tossed the glass into the sink and ignored the shattering glass as he moved in front of her in an instant. He held his hand up in front of her face and wiggled his fingers. Sparks of electricity vibrated between his fingertips.

“She and I were meant to be together.” He said as he looked into her eyes. “Her gift is so similar to mine, I know we were meant to be.”

“She is meant to be with Prince Leih.” She said as she looked her brother straight in the eyes.

She knows he won’t hurt her. Not because their father would punish him. He never cared about what happened to her. Justaine is his heir, he is all he has ever cared about.

Their father is a selfish man, and he raised his son to be the same. She has been trying for hundreds of years to change her brother to be more like their sweet mother, who had died much too soon.

“She is mine.” He said with a growl as he moved closer to her.

“You are so much like father, it disgusts me.” She said as she turned invisible.

He reached out to grab hold of her, but she was too fast. She moved away from him and ran from the suite. If only she could get him to see what kind of a person, he has become.

Maybe she can change him. She shook her head as invisible tears slid down her cheeks. Her gift was always perfect for her, she has always felt invisible to her father. Being able to be invisible, kept her out of reach of him and let her cry, when she needed to, without being yelled at for being weak.

She stopped running when she ended up at the Royal Corridor. She watched as a man and a young girl turned on the water hose and the girl sprayed the man in the chest. She smiled and laughed softly when the man bellowed and jumped back away from the hose.

The girl squealed in excitement as he moved over to her and took the hose from her hands. He sprayed something Psyanne couldn’t see and watched as a small animal came running towards her.

“Patches!” The girl hollered as she ran after the soaking wet animal.

The man laughed as he helped the girl chase down the wet pet.

“I told you she wouldn’t like a bath.” The man said with a laugh as they caught up with the animal.

“She needs it, though.” The girl said as she held the small animal close to her. “How about we play in the water and show her how fun it can be.” She said as she pouted up at the man.

“You just want to get me wet again.” He said with a loud laugh.

“Noooo…” She said with a grin.

The man laughed as he pulled his wet shirt over his head and tossed it onto one of the benches. Psyanne sucked in a shocked breath. His chest was well-muscled and beautiful. The bareness of his chest was a shock to her.

She has never seen a human without a shirt on before. The absence of markings wasn’t as horrid as she had been led to believe. She felt hot air blow on her neck and turned around so fast she almost lost her balance.

“What do you want here?” Gresha asked from on top the large Snoggle.

Can she see her? Is her gift that powerful?

“Don’t try to pretend you’re not there,” Gresha said as she looked straight at her. “Snoggles can see heat. He showed me where you are.”

Wow, something no one knew about Snoggles. She really is gifted. Psyanne thought as she watched the High Princess and her beast.

“Speak, or I’ll have my Snoggle eat you. He hasn’t eaten yet today.”

Startled, Psyanne took a step back from the large beast. She could swear she heard the Snoggle grumble.

“She doesn’t know that,” Gresha said as she rubbed the beast’s neck, then looked back towards Psyanne. “Why are you spying on me and my family? Did your brother tell you to?”

“I wasn’t spying,” Psyanne whispered.

“Then what do you call it?” Gresha asked, still looking where her Snoggle told her the princess was standing.

“I was running from… I was going for a run and came across them and stopped to watch. They looked like they were having fun.” Psyanne said as she watched the High Princess and her Snoggle, they both looked at her as if she wasn’t standing there invisible.

“Do you believe her?” Gresha asked, still looking at her.

Psyanne looked around them as she tried to see who the High Princess was talking to.

“Yeah, I don’t see why she would lie, either,” Gresha said with a nod.

Psyanne stared at her. Was she insane?

“Hey Cousin, what’s going on here?” The man asked as he walked up to them.

“We have a visitor,” Gresha said, still looking where Psyanne stood.

“Really?” The man asked as he looked around them. “I don’t see anyone.”

“Apparently, her gift is invisibility,” Gresha said, still not taking her eyes off where the woman stood, invisible.

“Oh, right.” The man said with a grin. “Show yourself, we don’t bite.”

Gresha laughed loudly and the man looked up at her. “Matrios says, speak for yourself.”

The man laughed as he looked at the large beast. “Okay, not all of us bite.”

“Sister!” The girl hollered as she ran up to the large beast and reached her arms up to join her sister on top of the Snoggle.

The man lifted the wet girl onto the Snoggles back behind Gresha and laughed loudly when the Snoggle’s back vibrated from the feel of her cold, wet body. She leaned over and handed the man her pet, then held onto her sister.

“I will give you one last chance to show yourself before I tell my Snoggle to pounce,” Gresha said as she stared at where the woman stood.

“Gresha.” The man said, disapprovingly.

She looked over at him and shrugged her shoulders. “She’s the one who showed up here invisible. Like she’s spying on us.”

“I wasn’t spying,” Psyanne said as she became visible.

“Wow.” The man breathed when she appeared.

“I’m sorry if it seemed like I was hiding. I didn’t mean to spy on you.” She said as she looked around at each of their faces.

“No problem, you can spy on me any time.” The man said with a grin.

“Gavin,” Gresha said as she rolled her eyes at her cousin.

“What?” He asked as he looked up at her. “That’s a cool gift, do you know how many times I wished I could become invisible?”

“I do,” Gresha said with a nod. “All the times you broke the rules.” She said with a laugh.

He laughed with her as he turned to look at the woman who was staring at them confused.

“We were going to the city; would you like to come?” He asked as he watched her.

“I’m sorry, but I can’t.” She said as she backed away from them. “My brother will be looking for me, I need to go.” She said as she turned and started to move away from them.

“Next time you come here, make sure you’re visible!” Gresha hollered after the woman.

“Gresha.” Gavin scolded as they watched the woman vanish and disappear.

“You don’t know what’s going on, Gavin,” Gresha said as she looked at him.

“Then tell me.” He said as he looked up at her.

“I can’t.” She said with a shake of her head.

“I was your brother for most of your life, you can tell me anything.” He said as he watched her.

“Okay, but not now.” She said as she pointed behind her at her sister.

“Okay.” He said with a nod. “Where are we going?” He asked with a grin.

‘Ice cream!’

“Ice cream!” Nahla hollered out loud at the same time Matrios hollered it in Gresha’s head.

Gresha laughed as she patted her Snoggle’s neck. “I guess the ice cream parlor.”

“Sounds good,” Gavin said with a grin as he walked beside the Snoggle.
