Chapter Fourteen

~14~

Reyna

As I sat in the living room, I blocked out everything around me as I tried to remember, word for word, what I read after Mrs. Brown read it to me. I had read that letter at least a hundred times since. I wasn’t sure what they thought they would find inside the letter, but there was nothing in my mother’s letter that would make me believe that she was afraid of my father. The letter was for my dad, but evidently, she never sent it, probably because she didn’t know where he was. Despite my efforts, I couldn’t remember it word for word, but there was no doubt that she confessed her love for him.

It was getting late. Shortly after our discussion in the living room ended, Lorenzo left. Davian promised his father that he would be in touch once he had the letter and could analyze it. I argued that he wouldn’t find anything, but it didn’t seem to matter.

As I sat on the couch, listening to their conversation, none of which I commented on, I had some questions of my own that needed answers. Questions that I didn’t want to ask in the presence of Lorenzo Cross. I was afraid that with him here, I wouldn’t get the answers I needed. I had a funny feeling that Lorenzo would shun my questions and I would be no closer to finding out the truth about my father.

When Davian came back to the living room after showing his father out, I didn’t allow him to speak. “I want to know everything about my father and why he is so adamant about finding me? No more secrets.”

I could tell that his father also left him on edge when he sat next to me. Taking my hand, he rubbed his thumb along the back side. “Reyna, you need to trust me. There’s a reason I haven’t told you everything about your father.”

I had enough. Pulling my hand away from his grasp, I stood and rounded the coffee table, putting distance between us. I clenched my hand into a fist, and I could feel my anger reaching the boiling point. “Trust, Davian? Are you kidding me? All I’ve done is trust you. Maybe you need to start trusting me. TELL ME ABOUT MY FATHER!”

Davian quickly stood from the couch and came over to where I was standing. I thought he was angry, but then, he took me in my arms and kissed my forehead. “Reyna, I do trust you, but this goes way beyond trust. It is about keeping you safe.”

The way he held me made me lose it. The tears were coming down, and there was no way I could stop them. “Can you please tell me something about my father? Can you tell me why he is so dangerous?” Knowing something about my father was better than nothing.

Davian pulled me down on the couch opposite of where we previously sat. Taking both of my hands into his, I knew what he was about to share would make me think differently of my father when he looked up at me. Regret and anger pierced his blue eyes. Years ago, I forgave my father leaving my mom and me, but I had a feeling I wouldn’t forgive my father for what I was about to learn.

“Your father, Rui Salko, is a powerful man and very dangerous. He is tied to the Russian mafia. We aren’t sure in what capacity, but that doesn’t make him less dangerous.” Davian released my hands and stood. My eyes were on him as he stepped over to the sideboard, raking his fingers through his hair.

While I kept my eyes on him, he poured himself another drink and downed half the amber liquid before he turned my way. “I hope you understand why I need to keep you safe.”

The information he shared wasn’t near enough. I needed more. “What do you know about the relationship between my mom and him? Do you know how they met?”

Davian walked back to the couch with his drink and sat beside me before he continued. “If I had to guess, your mom met Rui at the diner where she worked. There were no ties between them other than the diner. Knowing Rui, he probably swept your mom off her feet, and an intimate relationship developed. I’m not even sure he knew she was pregnant when she left.”

“If that is true, then why would he be looking for me?” Nothing Davian said made any sense, but at least I was finding out more about this man who they claim to be my father.

“There is something else you need to know,” Davian reached for my hand and cradled it in his. “I wasn’t going to say anything until we reviewed the letter.”

“Again with the letter. As I’ve told you, nothing in the letter confirms what your father said. My mother confessed her love to him over and over. She wanted to know why he hadn’t met her as they had planned. It was at a place called Suches Loop. She kept going there every day at one o’clock, hoping that he would show up, but he never did. What else is there that you aren’t telling me?”

“I’m not sure what we will find in the letter, but it is worth a shot to take a look. Hopefully, the two men that broke into your apartment didn’t find the box, and it is still under your bed.”

Mika stepped into the living room before Davian could tell me what the something else was. Looking at Davian and then me, she asked, “Is there anything else you need before I go to bed?”

“I think we are good,” Davian replied.

We watched Mika leave through the dining room. When she was no longer in sight, I looked at Davian. “What were you going to tell me?”

Cupping my face with his hands, Davian leaned over and placed his lips on mine. “It can wait until tomorrow.”

The tingling sensation that I felt only hours ago was back. Wrapping my arms around his shoulders, I allowed him to deepen the kiss by parting my lips. The taste of brandy mixed with the scent of his cologne sent a shiver through my body. My need for his touch was undeniable and matched the excitement I felt at the pool.

Davian broke our connection, and his blue eyes met mine. “I think it’s best to continue this upstairs.”

With my hand in his, he led me toward the entry and up the stairs—more than anything, I wanted this to continue. We didn’t stop at my room. Instead, Davian led me to the master suite, which was at the end of the hallway. When he pushed open the door, my eyes fell to the large bed in the middle of the room. Floor-to-ceiling windows were the backdrop, with a view of the wooded area just beyond the back patio. It was a sight to behold. Davian’s room was much larger than the one I was staying in, and the colors were more masculine, which reflected his personality, dark and mysterious.

Leading me further inside, Davian turned to close the door, never releasing my hand. In what I could consider a dance move, he swung my body close so that my chest pressed against his washboard abs. His hands outlined my hips until they rested on my butt cheeks. As he lifted me from the floor, my dress crept up my leg, which allowed me to wrap my legs around his waist. Once again, his lips were on mine. This kiss was more demanding then the one we shared downstairs. Tugging my bottom lip, his words heated my body. “Are you ready to be worshipped?”

The touch of his body pressed to mine was indescribable as he made his way to the large bed. Setting me on the plush rug, he spun my body and began lowering the medallion zipper. Inch by inch, the pull of the zipper was followed by the warmth of his lips on my bare skin. I could feel his breath against my ear as my dress fell and pooled around my heels. “Step away from your dress, but leave your heels on.”

I carefully stepped out of my dress, thankful that Davian guided me as he positioned his hands on my hips. Turning my body to face him, I met his eyes as he surveyed my half-naked body. Davian had a mischievous grin spread across his face showcasing his approval. I tried to reach for his shirt, but his hand was over mine, halting my attempt. “No touching, Reyna. Tonight is for you.”

I wasn’t sure how long I could last without touching him, but for now, I did as he asked and dropped my hands to my sides. The electricity between us was intense and could light up a small town. Davian reached behind my back and, in one quick move, unhooked my bra. Kissing my shoulder, he lowered one strap and then the other. I knew when he moved his hand down my stomach to the waistband of my panties, he would find them wet with desire. Closing my eyes at the sensation of his touch, I felt him lower my panties before lifting my body from the floor and carefully set me on the bed. My heels were still on. Instead of moving me up the bed to give him the room he needed, Davian sank to his knees and parted my legs. A small gasp escaped from my lips as he flattened his tongue against my clit, before using the tip to separate my slickened folds.

While he teased and tormented me, missing the spot that would allow me to explode, I didn’t recognize the voice that came from my mouth. “Please, Davian.”

“Please what, princess?”

Before he allowed me to answer, his mouth covered mine. No… No… don’t leave me like this. I was on the edge ready to jump off, needing to let go now more than ever. “Please, I need to come.”

Moving me up the bed with one arm under my waist and the other braced against the silk comforter, he pushed from the bed and began removing his shirt and then his pants. He was a god. I had only seen his upper body, but when he removed his boxers, I couldn’t take my eyes off him as his impressive erection sprung free.

Grabbing me by the heels of my pumps, he parted my legs and positioned his body between them. Holding himself up with his arms, he towered over me as he dipped his head and trailed kiss after kiss down my neck. The touch of his lips on my skin left me wanting more as he moved lower to the valley between my breast. “I love the way your body responds to my touch,” he confessed. His lips had no mercy on my body.

When he stopped his assault on my hard nipples, I lifted my head to find his glassy blue eyes on mine. Keeping my eyes on his, he moved his hand down my body, stopping at the strip of hair before moving lower. He inserted one finger between my slick folds. “Are you on the pill?”

I had been on the pill since I was thirteen, but only to regulate my period. Thankfully, I never stopped taking them. “Yes.”

“Good. I’m clean and always wear a condom, but with you, I want to feel you bare.”

I sucked in a deep breath. Never having had sex, I was clean. “I have never been with a man, so I am also clean.”

Davian pushed from the bed and moved away from my body. I found that I couldn’t take my eyes off his every move as he paced the floor, his hands raking through his hair, showing his disapproval of my confession. The longer he paced, the more uncomfortable I became. Naked and completely exposed to him, his actions made me feel dirty.

I dug my heels into the mattress as I moved to the edge of the bed, surely ripping the material where my heels had dug in. Before my feet hit the floor, I heard his angry voice behind me. “Don’t move. I want an explanation.”

I wasn’t sure what kind of explanation he was looking for. It was pretty simple. No sex meant I was still a virgin. “It’s not that difficult to understand, but I will spell it out for you. I… am… still… a… virgin.”

“I’m not stupid, Reyna. How can you still be a virgin? You’re beautiful, smart, and you had a boyfriend less than a year ago.”

“Wait a minute. How did you know about Tyler?”

“I know everything about you. It’s my job.” Davian’s icy blues were on me, and I couldn’t concentrate on anything else except how gorgeous his naked body was.

I was angry, and rightfully so. “If it is your job to know everything about me, then you should have known I was still a virgin.” Pushing from the bed, I walked past him, ready to grab my dress until my inner bitch surfaced. “If it bothers you so much that I’m a virgin, maybe I should find a man who wouldn’t think twice about fucking me.”

A powerful arm came around my waist and lifted me from the floor and onto the bed. Davian’s body was towering over mine, and his eyes were even colder than before. “If you want me to fuck you, I will, but know this, I have a certain appetite, and when I bury my cock deep inside you, it won’t be gentle.”

“Then do it. I’m a big girl.”

Placing my hands above my head, Davian held them in place as he began to entered me. I could feel my body stretch to accommodate his size. As he moved, he did the opposite of what he confessed. He controlled his movements as he slowly pushed inside me. The pain wasn’t unbearable as he continued his calculated thrusts. Despite his anger, Davian never took his eyes off mine. The ice soon melted as he placed his mouth next to mine. “This is going to hurt, princess. Are you ready?”

“Just do it.”

Muffling my cry, he covered my mouth with his, and with one thrust, he pushed deeper. The pleasure was no match to the instant pain I felt. As quickly as it came, it disappeared. There were no regrets, only gratification that Davian was the one to take my virginity. It’s been said that your first time should be special. I don’t think mine could have been any more special than this.
