Chapter 16 [Part 2]

When I woke up I was in a hospital bed. Li was sitting in a chair beside the bed and watching me with an anxious look.

“Babe how do you feel?” Li asked as he took my hand in his.

“I feel fine, what happened?” I replied. I remember coming to the hospital and going to the toilet but that’s all, it’s blurry after that.

“You passed out,” Li explained before and the doctor walked in.

“Will I be ok doctor?” I asked nervously. I’ve never passed out before, I hope it isn’t something serious.

“Yes you’ll be fine. In fact, I have some good news for you,” the doctor assured me.

“Really? What good news?” I asked.

“You’re pregnant,“the doctor told me with a kind smile. “You’re going to be a mother, congratulations!”

I’m pregnant? This is not good. When Jaime finds out, he will hate me and will never forgive me. What am I going to do? Should I even keep this baby? Is it worth it? I don’t know what I will do and Li staring at me like I’ve made him the happiest man alive is not helping.

The doctor left the room to give Li and I some space, which I did not need right then.

“Babe I’m so happy you’re having my baby,” Li told me happily.

“You’re happy?” I asked. Of course he is happy, I’m having his baby.

“Of course I am aren’t you?”

“I don’t know,” I honestly mumbled. I really don’t know how to feel about this. I should be happy but can’t be because I’m having a baby which isn’t my true mate’s.

“What do you mean you don’t know?” Li asked and came closer to me.

“I don’t know if I’m going to keep it,” I blurted out without thinking.

“Are you saying that you’re going to get an abortion and kill our baby?” Li demanded angrily and then pinned me against the wall.

“Maybe,” I confirmed with a gulp.

“How can you even think about killing our baby?” Li asked furiously.

“I may not have a choice now that you’ve found your true mate,” I said sadly.

“She’s not my mate and I won’t give you up for her. I love you and I feel nothing for her,” Li surprised me.

“You’re lying, you’re worried about her,” I refused to believe. I can see it in his eyes, he loves me but he is concerned for his mate. He already loves her but can’t see it, yet.

“Of course I’m worried, it’s my fault she is here. I was mean to her and she got hurt,”

“Why did you reject her when she’s your mate?”

“I told you, she’s not my mate. You are my mate,” Li refused to back down and put his arms around me to pull me close into a hug.

“But Li-” I began to argue. He can’t do this. She is his mate, she’ll die if he doesn’t want her.

“There is no buts3, we are mates and that’s final. I don’t want to talk about this anymore,” Li said firmly.

“But-” I tried to argue again.

“I mean it Sage, don’t mention this again ok?”

“Ok,” I agreed quietly even though I didn’t want to. Li shouldn’t be saying this. He’s met his true mate and should want to be with her not me. He is blinded by the bond we share. He doesn’t mean it. He doesn’t love me.

“And you are keeping our baby, I don’t want to hear another word about getting rid of it understand?”

“I understand,” I said as I couldn’t see any other choice. Li wouldn’t hear me say otherwise. Love really is blind.

“Good. Now, let’s get you something to eat,”

Li left the room and came back 5 minutes later with a sandwich and a drink. He gave me the sandwich and I began to eat it. Li opened the drink and then handed it to me. I had a taste but didn’t really like it, it was guava juice. I hate guava.

“Don’t you like it?” Li asked as he saw my nose scrunch up.

“No, I hate guava, I thought you knew,” I replied.

“What? I thought it was mango? You like mango don’t you?” Li asked and took the guava juice away from me.

“Yes,” I said.

“I’m sorry, I’ll go get you another,” Li said before he left the room and came back with a different drink, orange juice this time. I took it from him and had a big mouthful and swallowed. When I finished eating, the doctor came back in with some papers.

“Mrs Smith I am happy to tell you that I’m fine with you leaving hospital if you want to,” the doctor said.

“Yeah that would be nice,” I agreed. I didn’t want to stay at the hospital, I’d much rather be at home.

“Ok here are some papers, you just have to sign them and then you can leave,” the doctor told me and handed me some papers to sign. I signed them and the doctor took them from me.
“You’re free to leave,”

“Thank you,”

“You’re welcome,” the doctor said then walked out of the room.

“This is great, I get to take you both home now,” Li told me happily with a glance towards my stomach.

“Both?” I asked in confusion.

“My mate and my unborn child of course,”

“Oh,” I mumbled. How could I forget?

Li helped me stand up, which was stupid I wasn’t hurt, I could walk perfectly fine by myself.

“Li I can walk you know,” I said in annoyance.

“I know you can but we have to be extra careful now that our baby is in there,” Li said as he looked at my stomach with love. I rolled my eyes and we walked out of the hospital and into Li’s car. Then I remembered Sara.

“What about Sara?” I asked.

“Who’s Sara?” Li asked in confusion.

“Your mate?” I replied.

“You’re my mate,” Li stated.

“Fine, what about the girl who had an accident?”

“Oh that Sara, she’s not so good but she’s got her family with her so she’ll be fine. They said they’d keep in touch with me and tell me of any changes,” Li shrugged as if it were nothing. I can’t believe he is acting like this. That poor girl. She is Li’s mate and doesn’t deserve to be treated like this by her own mate.

“Ok but aren’t you going to visit her?”

“Why would I do that?”

“Because she’s your mate,”

“Sage please don’t bring that up again, we’ve been through it. You’re my mate ok no one else,” Li said and kissed me gently on the cheek.

When we reached home, Li wouldn’t let me walk to our house, he lifted me out of the car and into his arms, then carried me into the house.

“Li if I walk it’s not going to hurt the baby,” I told Li as he sat down onto the couch with me on his lap.

“No but I can’t risk you getting hurt or our unborn child,” Li told me as he placed a hand on my stomach gently.

“You’re really happy about this baby aren’t you?”

“Of course I am,”

“Because we made the baby together, it’s ours and he or she will be beautiful just like you,”

“You think so?” I asked.

“I know so,” Li replied.

“Ok then what do you want to call the baby,” I asked curiously.

“I don’t know yet, what do you think we should call the baby?”

“I don’t know either, maybe we should wait until it’s born,” I suggested.

“I think that’s a good idea,” Li agreed.

Then Li pulled my shirt up to expose my bare skin and then he placed his hand there.

“We can’t wait to meet you baby,” Li cooed at my stomach which made me laugh out loud.

“What’s so funny?” Li asked.

“You talked to my stomach,” I said and laughed again.

“No I talked to our baby,” Li said.

“I don’t think the baby can hear you and if it could it wouldn’t understand what you’re saying,”

“Yeah it would, it’s a smart baby. It’s not human remember?” Li reminded me and that’s when I started to panic, I never thought about that, what if the baby kills me when I give birth to it.

“Don’t worry Sage, the baby can’t hurt you. It will be like a human pregnancy except when after you’ve given birth, your body will go back to how it is now straight away, you won’t have to worry about stretch marks or loosing baby weight because you won’t get any to begin with,” Li assured me.

I relaxed a little but knew when Jaime finds out, he would be devastated. I don’t know how I will tell him but I will have to before someone else tells him.
