Chapter 20 [Part 2]
When I woke up I was laying in bed in Sage’s arms, I immediately put my arms around her and held her close. It’s good to have her back.
“How are you feeling?” Sage asked.
“I’m ok, why are we back home?” I questioned.
“The pack doctor checked you out when you were unconscious, he said you were fine and said it was best if I took you home so you could rest properly,”
“I can’t believe this,” I passed out because of our baby. Wait........ There is no baby, there never was.
“Can’t believe what?”
“I can’t believe you’re not pregnant,” I looked away sadly.
“I’m sorry,” Sage said with regret in her eyes when I looked at her.
“It’s ok, it’s not your fault, I guess I should have realised sooner that we can’t conceive a baby together because we aren’t mates,” I said with my head down.
“It doesn’t matter we still have each other, that’s all we need,” Sage assured me.
“I know but I can’t give you children,”
“I didn’t really want a baby,” Sage admitted.
“Does that mean you’re happy about this? I thought you loved me?” I asked as my hold around Sage tightened.
“No of course I love you, I’m just saying I wasn’t ready to have a baby right now so it’s a good thing I’m not pregnant,”
“One day you will be pregnant but the baby won’t be mine,” I said and then I saw images in my head which showed Sage making love to another man and having a baby with him which made me angry really angry.
“I don’t see that happening,” Sage disagreed which made me relax a little.
“It will happen, you’ll find your mate and you will leave me to be with him,”
“If I had a mate I would have found him by now. I’m 22, it’s too late now,”
“It’s never too late Sage, you will find him,” I’m not looking forward to that day. I don’t want to ever lose Sage. I love her, without her I have no one. Not even a mate, I rejected her for Sage. I regret it but I can’t go back and change it. I’ll have to live with it for the rest of my life.
“I won’t find him,” Sage said confidently.
“How can you be so sure?” I asked.
“I just am?”
“Has something happened?”
“Something like what?”
“I don’t know you tell me,”
“Nothing’s happened that I know of,” Sage said honestly.
“Ok I believe you,”
“You will tell me when you find your mate won’t you?”
“Of course I will,” Sage agreed.
“You would tell me if you already met him wouldn’t you?”
“Yes,” Sage said but I wasn’t convinced. “You’ve already met him haven’t you?”
“No I haven’t,” Sage denied quickly which proved my point
“Yes you have,” I argued.
“No I haven’t,” Sage argued back.
“Yes,” I said firmly.
“I haven’t I promise,” Sage promised but I knew a lie when I heard one.
“I know you’re lying,”
“I can’t believe this you’re lying to me, you’ve met you’re mate and haven’t told me yet, who is he?” I demanded.
“I haven’t met him so I don’t know,”
I sighed. We aren’t going to get anywhere. Sage isn’t going to to tell me anything.
“Fine don’t tell me but I’ll find out eventually and you’ll regret not telling me,” I warned.
Sage didn’t say anything but I stopped asking her about who her mate was. I know she’s found him but why won’t she tell me who he is and more importantly why is she still with me when she can be with her mate? Something isn’t right but I will find out and when I do I don’t know what will happen.
I can’t believe Li is starting to see something is up but I don’t blame him, he isn’t stupid and I know he will find out at some point that Jaime is my true mate but he can’t find out, he’ll lose it. He fainted when he found out I wasn't pregnant, what will happen if he knows his brother is the only one who can get me pregnant? It will kill him and I can’t let that happen.
When Li fell asleep that night I thought of Jaime and disappeared.
A few seconds later, I was in Jaime’s bedroom, he was sat on his bed with his back towards me with no shirt on. I quickly looked away or I wouldn’t be able to say what I had to.
“Sage?” Jaime asked when he turned around. He stood up and the next thing I knew, he had me in an embrace.
“Jaime,” I warned.
“What?” Jaime asked.
“Stop,” I said and moved away.
“What’s wrong?” Jaime asked and pulled me close into a hug.
I pulled away and Jaime looked hurt.
“I’m sorry but I can’t do this,” I said firmly.
“I can’t leave Li for you, it’ll kill him,”
“No it won’t,”
“It will, you saw what happened when he found out I wasn’t pregnant,” I reminded my mate. “I don’t want to hurt him anymore,”
“What about me? I’m your mate not him, you’re hurting me by not being with me,” Jaime told me with a sad face.
“I know and I’m sorry but it will hurt him more if I leave him,”
“He’ll live,” Jaime said as if he didn’t care what happened to Li.
“He’s your brother, don’t you care about his feelings?”
“No,” Jaime said quickly.
“How can you say that when he is your brother?” I asked in complete shock. I thought family meant something. Li is Jaime’s brother, he should care for him.
“I used to care but if he gets to have you then I don’t care,”
“But he doesn’t have me, you have me,”
“Do I?” Jaime raised an eyebrow
“Of course I’m yours not his,”
“Then why are you with him and not me?”
“You know why,”
“I couldn’t care less about his feelings. You’re mine and meant to be with me. You need to tell Li everything,”
“No I don’t,” I said quickly.
“Yes you do because if you don’t tell him then I will,” Jaime warned me.
“Please don’t make me tell Li, he can never find out,” I pleaded.
“I can’t never find out what?” a voice said from behind us. I looked behind at the same time as Jaime and both our eyes widened. It’s him, it’s Li.
