Chapter 22 [Part 2]

Li’s pov

I really want to be with Sage but I can’t be now because Jaime is her true mate. I know I told Sage before that I wouldn’t let her true mate take her away from me but I won’t actually do that now because I’ve realised it’s not about what I want. It never was about me, it’s always been about what Sage wants and it will stay that way. I just want what’s best for her and for her to be happy, the only person who will keep her happy is Jaime. As much as I’d like that person to be me, I won’t ever keep her happy. She has to be with Jaime.

Sage told me she doesn’t want to be with Jaime unless I am ok with it and I am but she won’t believe me so I have to do something to make her see that she has to be with Jaime. Somehow I don’t see her realising that whilst I am around. Maybe I should end things right now.

All these thoughts were in my head as I was chopping vegetables for dinner, the knife in my hand gave me an idea of what to do but then Sage would never forgive me after my last attempt but it was the only way I would be out of the picture and Sage would have no choice but to be with her true mate even though I wanted her for myself.

I brought the knife towards my heart then I pulled away, I was about to plunge the knife into my heart but then Sage walked in the kitchen. She gasped when she saw what I was about to do.

“Li what do you think you’re doing?” Sage demanded worriedly as she ran to me and took the knife out of my hand.

“Nothing,” I replied quickly.

“Don’t lie. I know what you were trying to do. You thought that if you killed yourself then I would go running to Jamie to be with him, well that’s not going to happen,”

“If I’m not here then you will go to him eventually,”

“No I wouldn’t. I don’t think I could be with anyone again if you died, in fact it would make me run away from Jaime and never return or maybe I would die too,” Sage said to herself but I heard everything.

“What are you saying that you would kill yourself If I wasn’t alive?” I asked in surprise. How can Sage even think of doing such a thing? Especially for me when I’m not her mate?

“Yes, what would be the point in living without you? You may not be my true mate but I do love you and life just wouldn’t be the same without you,”

“Really?” I asked.

“Really,” Sage confirmed and I pulled her into my arms in disbelief.

“You can’t do that Sage. If I die, you can’t kill yourself. You have to be with Jaime ok?” I said firmly.

“Ok,” Sage replied quietly.

“Promise me Sage,” I ordered.

“I promise,” Sage promised with a whisper in my ear.

“Good,” I sighed in relief.

“I should leave you,”

“Why?” I asked.

“Because you tried to kill yourself and I said if you tried that again I would leave you and never come back,”

“I know and I’m sorry but please don’t leave me,” I begged.

“I should but I won’t because you’ll only try to kill yourself and I won’t be here to stop you,”

“So you’re not leaving?” I asked happily.

“Of course not,”

“You really love me don’t you?”

“Yeah,” Sage replied with a blush.

“You shouldn’t love me. You should love Jaime as he is your true mate not me,” I said as I touched Sage’s blushing cheek which made her blush harder, Damn! She is so cute! If only she was mine truly but she can’t be, she’s really Jaime’s not mine, I hissed.

“What’s wrong?”

“You’re not mine,” I hissed again.

“So that means we can’t be together,” I said sadly.

“We can be together if we love each other,” Sage disagreed.

“You shouldn’t love me. I’m not your mate,”

“Fine I’ll go then, I’ll leave,” Sage decided reluctantly.

“That’s the right thing to do, you should be with Jaime,” I agreed sadly.

“I’m not going to Jaime,”

“Then where are you going?” I asked in confusion.

“Away from both of you,”

“No you can’t do that. You have to go to Jaime,” I insisted.

“How can I go to Jaime when I love you?”

“You can because you love him more,”

“Do I?”

“Yes you do,”

“I don’t think I will ever love him as much as I love you so I can’t be with him, I have to leave,” Sage insisted but I stopped her by grabbing her wrist.

“You can’t do that, I won’t let you,”

“Why not?” Sage asked.

“Because he loves you, if you have to leave then at least tell him first,”

“Fine I’ll tell him, will you come with me?”

“Yeah sure,” I replied.

A few seconds later, we were at Jaime’s house.

Jaime’s pov

I was sitting in my living room staring into space, just day dreaming about Sage as I had nothing else to do. There was no Alpha business to attend to, no rouge problems, everything was just fine.

Then there was a knock on the front door. I ran to open it, it was Jared.

“What do you want?” I asked with clear disappointment in my voice.

“The Luna is here,” Jared said and my eyes widened in surprise and excitement.

“The Luna is here,” I said with a smile.

“Yes and she has brought a male friend with her,” Jared told me.

“What male friend?” I asked

“He said his name was Li,” Jared replied.

“Ok lead me to them,” I ordered.

“Yes Alpha,” Jared said and led me to Sage and Li, they were waiting for me inside my office at the pack house. I told Jared to leave and then entered my office before closing the door behind me.

“So what’s going on?” I asked as I looked towards them, they sat opposite my desk. I took a seat behind my desk before Li spoke.

“I know,” was all Li said.

“You know what?” I asked.

“I know that you and Sage are mates,” Li said. “Sage told me everything,”

“And you’re not angry?” I asked with hopeful eyes.

“No I just want what’s best for Sage and that is for her to be with you,” Li said but somehow I realised something was up.

“So what’s the problem?” I asked.

“Sage has something to tell you,”

Sage looked nervous.

“It’s ok take your time,” I assured her.

“I’m leaving,” Sage said and I didn’t like the sound of that.

“What do you mean you’re leaving, why?”

“I’m leaving the city alone. I can’t do this anymore,” Sage said.

“Can’t do what anymore?”

“Hurt you both,”

“But you won’t hurt us anymore if you stay. You can be with me and Li will find his second chance mate,”

“You think I’ll find another mate?” Li asked with hopeful eyes.

“I did didn’t I, I lost Lily but then I found Sage. You lost Sara and you are bound to find someone else like I did,”

“I don’t think I want another mate, I was happy with Sage,” Li said.

“This is why I should leave, you both love me so it will never work out,” Sage commented.

Then I thought of an idea.

“Ok leave but do something for me first,”

“Ok what do you want me to do?”

“Stay with Li for another week at least and think about what you want and if after that week you still want to go then I won’t stop you,” I said.

“Really?” Sage asked.

“Really,” I replied.

“Ok I’ll stay with Li another week and think about things,”

“Good I’ll see you in week then for your decision,”

Then Sage and Li disappeared. I hope Safe takes the week to think wisely and decides to stay because I don’t know what I’ll do without her.
