Road Trip Rage
Aric put his foot the floor heading out of Moses Lake, his friend at his side, his sister behind him.
“How have you been Henry?” Emily asked, leaning forward between the seats.
“Until last night I was fine,” Henry replied with a heavy sigh, looking to her with mournful eyes.
“Yeah,” she sighed, patting him on the shoulder, “daddy tends to leave that feeling when he visits.
“How is Alfie?“she asked, not knowing he’d been taken. “Still the biggest drama queen?”
Henry bit his knuckle hard, turning away to look out the window.
“What?” Emily asked, looking at her brother for explanation.
“Dad took Alfie too,” Aric finally said, keeping his eyes on the road.
“What?” his sister demanded, her mouth hanging open in shock.
“Wait,” Aric barked, slamming on the breaks, bringing the car to a sudden stop.
“How the fuck do you know about Henry and Alfie?” he demanded, turning to look at his sister.
“I’ve known for years,” Emily explained, looking at him like he was a moron. “Who do you think told Henry how to get away with it?”
“Does everyone but me know?” Aric spat, looking between his two passengers.
“No,” his sister sighed, shaking her head, “it was just the three of us. Me, Henry and Alfie.”
“Fuck me,” Aric cussed, pulling the car back on the road.
“What did you say that would get our father to leave his tower in Seattle?” she asked, completely flabbergasted.
“A member of the coven that ran the bordello narked us out,” Henry spat. “She told your father about a conversation your brother and I had.”
"What the fuck did you say?" she breathed. "Were you guys plotting a coup or something."
"No,"Aric replied with a snarky clip to his words, "I told Henry about my new pet Liberty, and the feelings I have for her, and he told me about how he's been forging Alfie's age."
"Oh shit," his sister sighed, falling back into her seat.
"Yeah," Aric said, looking at her in the rear view mirror. "Oh shit.
"He showed up a few hours later and snatched up Liberty and Alfie after knocking around just for kicks," he added, watching his sisters reaction to his words.
"Wait," she said, sitting forward again, "what feelings do you have for your pet?"
"I fell in love with her," Aric admitted, waiting for his sister to mock him.
"Does she love you?" Emily asked, her words sincere.
"I don't know," he sighed, his shoulders slumping, "but right now it doesn't matter.
"What matters is that at this moment she's trapped with our father in his tower, and we both know what a sadistic fuck he is," Aric spat slamming his hand on the steering wheel again. "Especially if it means he gets the extra delight of torturing me at the same time!"
"I say we kill him," Emily said flatly, leaning back in her seat.
"What?" Henry asked, whipping around to look at the young vampire sitting in the backseat.
"Please," Emily replied sarcastically, "like you two have never thought of it.
"I say, we rescue this Liberty and Alfie and stake the old bastard before he can do any more damage," she said, sounding completely serious.
"I'm all for it," Henry agreed, turning to look at Aric, "what about you?"
