Chapter 4

I met with Hal at the airport and we boarded the same flight returning to London. by the we got to London and

we alighted the plane, Hal and I were exhausted so we boarded a taxi to a nearby restaurant.
"Carm, I'm not that hungry you know. We could wait to eat at your restaurant so I wouldn't have to pay'' Hal

joked but I knew she was serious about not being that hungry. I simply shrugged at her but my stomach growled

in the process making her laugh.

"you see, my stomach has replied you" I said.

She rose up her hands in surrender." its fine ". I rested my head on my hand which was on the car door thinking.

There was an awkward silence between us for a while until Hal started staring at me intensely.

''spit it out Carm" she told me.

"what are you saying?"

"I can read you, remember? who is it?" she retorted. I knew exactly what she meant but I was going to keep

pretending until she got tired of asking.

'' you have been in that resting position since we arrived" she stated.

"well can't I do that? It's nothing Hal. forget it "I said clearly annoyed at her correct guessing. Arsenio wasn't

exactly what was on my mind but the fact that I met him twice and he seemed like a good person even if he was

the boss of the mafia, he helped the less privileged. You don't see mafia bosses moving about like he did. The

thought that his might be legal never left my mind.

"at least tell me his name'' she asked with a pitiful face.

I heaved a heavy sigh. "you're a very crazy person you know right?''

She nodded vigorously.

"Well He isn't what I have on my mind but his name is Arsenio "I confessed lowering my voice towards the end of

my sentence.
"don't bother, I already knew his name anyway. He's the Arsenio Ahmad Sheriff, isn't he? Mafia boss and CEO

Leo industries '' she shrugged while confessing what she knew already. I couldn't help just staring at her shocked

and wondering how she knew all that.

"were you stalking me, Hal?" I nearly whispered while narrowing my eyes.

"no, of course not Carm. his card was in your bag when you told me to help you get some sanitizer at the

restroom" she explained and I relaxed into my seat.

''its fine but just so you know, I'm not thinking about him or anything related"

"you definitely would love my story if you would listen "

"sure, Hal. Go on'' I encouraged her.

"it can wait until we've eaten" she sent me a small smile and I nod in response.

Soon enough we're at a fast food restaurant. Hal gave me an annoyed look. "not trying to judge this place but you

see how unimpressive this restaurant looks. that's why we would've just been patient to get to yours"

I literally had to pull her in with me and got into a secluded corner table. Hal began her ranting on the phone with

her sisters while I waved at the waiter to come and attend to us. The teenage girl graced her way to our Table.

She had a what they called a strawberry blonde that matched her cute big light blue eyes.

"hi" she greeted with a wave. "what would you like to have?"

That's when I realize I hadn't even glanced at the menu. I quickly reached out for it on Hal's side of the small

round table. I scanned it for what the most appropriate thing to eat. I settled for fries and a cheese burger and

gestured towards Hal to ask what she wanted. she turned to me setting her phone aside before whispering ''I'll

have anything you'll have" and returning to her call.

"what's the matter "I asked.

"it's just..." she pointed to my shoe which was on the table and I immediately carried it away.

''I'm sorry "I said and that made Hal laugh.

''were you about to eat the shoe or what?'' she asked in between laughs. I glared at her before dismissing the

waitress.

''If you would just look at this, Halima'' I explained pushing my tray of food away and placing the shoe back on the

table.

"Oh my God what could be so serious that has you calling me by my full name, Carmella?" she groaned in

annoyance as she shoved her fries into her mouth before looking towards me.

I held my phone and the shoe out together. "see!''

she shrieked in surprise.

"incredibile! "she said in utmost shock in Italian.

"essato!" I replied meaning exactly.

"Leo Luca, eccolo!" She whispered mostly to herself "per essere franco, sposarsi"

Was she crazy? she had just told me to get married to him in Italian.

I shook my head and dropped the matter. Why was I so shocked anyway?

Hal knew marriage was a sensitive topic for me but she was probably joking right now. she looked at me feeling

bad about what she had said. I smiled inwardly. at least she wasn't on crazy mode anymore.

''sono non arrabiato'' I assured her that I wasn't angry. And I saw her relax into her chair.
We ate in silence. after then, we paid and left.

We boarded a cab and arrived at our apartment.

After saying our evening prayers, Hal and I talked about her own experience.

She apparently met this guy called Stephano. He wasn't a Muslim but he seemed very nice. They got to hang out

a lot so they could be called friends as she said.

"buona notte"

Good night.

The next morning, I woke up early and said my prayers before going to clean my apartment while Hal went back

to sleeping soundly under the duvet after saying hers. She continuously smiled in her sleep which only made me

sigh at her.

I grabbed my coat after cleaning and went out to the bakery. There I met Sarah and the rest of my employees

busy at the kitchen. They hadn't noticed me until I shouted '' I'm back!"

They all looked towards me smiling and sending greetings because they were all too occupied making breakfast

pastries.

"I'm so happy to see all of you" I said clapping my hands.

"we're happy to see you too" Dante retorted ''we've made so much money this past week'' he added.

I gave an 'are you serious' look and Sarah nodded proudly. "so much"

"yeah that's because Sarah's such a mom that burns our asses if we just want to have a little rest "Antonio said

accusingly. Sarah rolled her eyes at him.
I placed my hands on my hip as I enjoyed listening to their arguments.

"yeah cause I'm a mom and I have kids" Sarah argued defending herself.

I figured it was enough before it became far too serious.

I sent a glare at Dante and he immediately calmed down. I could see that he was just having fun and not taking

the whole drama seriously but Sarah was on the verge of losing it.

"comfort her" I whisper-yelled.

"fine '' he whined walking towards her. "Madre, I was only kidding "he said hugging her from behind. His much

bigger frame towering over her.

I let them settle themselves before going to check how things were going outside the kitchen. It was perfectly fine

enabling me to go back to my apartment.

'' Hal, I'm back. I think it's time for you to wake up. We have to have at least six good hours of reading before

Tuesday" I yelled from the living room.

"I'm awake, Carm and no need to yell so much'' she replied.

"scusa! "I still shouted.

"its fine"

I heard her footsteps as she sprinted towards the living room. what's the matter now?

As soon as she reached where I was, she shoved my phone into my hand.

"what?" I asked confused. She made herself comfortable on the sofa and rolled her eyes.

"just look at the phone, will you?'' she said clearly annoyed.

I stared at the phone before turning on the screen. I saw that I had four missed calls. I wasn't missing anything,

was I?

I unlocked at the phone a saw that it was an unknown number. My thoughts immediately went to Arsenio. how

possible was it that he got my number?

I looked towards Hal and she blushed. ''What did you do?''

She looked down at her thighs as she began to speak innocently. "I only called him once" she admitted.

I sighed placing my hand on my hip as I rested on my right leg facing her.'' are you serious right now, Hal?''

'' I'm sorry, but now at least you two can communicate and if you look at it, you're both big people in the society.

''she said nonchalantly like it wasn't so much of a big deal.

"it is. I'd do anything to stay far away from the most feared mafia. The boss to be precise." I corrected making Hal

throw her hands in the air wildly.

''Give it a chance. And as you said, he didn't seem that cruel and he even help the poor so.........can we have

breakfast now?" she asked clearly getting irritated. If there was anyone who had the right to get irritated, it

would be me.

"okay, you're making it" I said sharply before she could argue. She groaned glaring at me before heading for the

kitchen.
