Chapter 22- Your not a Bad Girl? Are you?
I woke up to an empty bed, deep down inside me I felt disappointed. I stretched and walked downstairs. Smelling the heavenly of burgers I hurried my way to the kitchen. Sitting there was a narrowed eyed Jax and an awkward Rider.
“Is one of those for me?” I pointed to the big white Styrofoam container. Rider nodded and pushed it over to me. Opening the lid I was greeted with a golden cheeseburger. I poked the bottom bun making sure it wasn’t soggy. Satisfied with the firmness of the bun, I dug in. Leaving Jax and Rider wide eyed with how quickly I inhaled the burger.
“That never gets old,” Jax says with a smirk. While Rider sits there with his mouth open. I leaned over and closed it for him.
“Don’t stare, it’s rude. If you’re lucky one day i’ll teach you how to eat properly.”
Rider grinned at that. “Oh don’t worry, I already know how to eat some things.” His voice lowered and he sent a wink towards my direction. I blushed and looked at him wide eyed. He was going to do that right in front of Jax?
Jax cleared his throat and my head swirled to his direction.
“Rowan will be coming on Friday to take you to the Elders I think. Don’t worry about school, I have a feeling it’s going to be a snow day.” He came over and kissed me. This wasn’t a sweet innocent peck. It was demanding all of my attention to just his lips. He bit my lip making me gasp. Pulling away I noticed he wasn’t looking at me, he was looking right at Rider.
“Hey Rider why don’t you go check on border patrol for me?” His words had a double meaning to them. Rider nodded and left, his face devoid of any emotion. Part of me crumbled watching him to leave. As soon as his figure retreated out of the kitchen, I turned to Jax.
“What was that for!” I nearly shouted at him.
“He’s been getting too close to you. I don’t like it. And don’t even try to deny it I can smell him all over you.” I rolled my eyes.
“Can you stop being territorial for a minute! I’m not a piece of land you can pee on. Have you ever thought that maybe you smell him on me because I was in his car and he carried me up to a bed.” The color drained from his face.
“No you didn’t, you let your emotions get the best of you. He’s your best friend, I doubt he would do anything that would hurt you.”
“You guys seem close that all. I’m sorry.” Jax mumbled out looking down at his feet.
“He reminds me of Dani, that’s all,” I say trying to convince the both of us.
“Promise nothing is going on?” He sounded so vulnerable and insecure. I melted and pulled him into a hug.
Gulping down the huge ball of guilt, I managed to slip out the I promise. He wrapped his arms around me and rocked us back and forth.
After the scene in the kitchen I tried to avoid Rider. We had something going on and I wasn’t about to find out. I’m many things but I am no cheater. The days seemed to stretch. All I was focused on was meeting the Elders. I needed my questions answered. Jax could sense the tension in me and tried lighting it up with cute surprises. I found chocolate in our meeting spot when I went for a smoke break. I had one more cigarette to finish before I quited. To be honest, I found the pack in Dani’s room.
Taking another drag at the cancer stick. I winced at the ease of the smoke filling my body with the killing chemicals. I brought my hand up to my mouth about to take another hit when a cold hand grabbed my arm. I jumped and saw Rider’s usually playful eyes darken.
“What are you doing hun?” His voice put warmth in my body.
“Taking a smoke break which you’re rudely interrupting.” I said coldly.
He just smiled before tisking me. He grabbed the cigarette and threw it down on the ground. Crushing it with his boot he quickly snatched the pack from my pocket.
" Sweethearts like you don’t need this stuff. This is for the bad girls.” Rider leaned in his breath fanning my ear.
“And you’re not a bad girl. Are you Sweetheart?” He whispered lowly in my ear, causing shivers to run down. I shook my head letting my hair form a barrier between us.
“Good,” he bopped my nose. ” Now get to class before I do something we’ll both regret.”
I ran back into school leaving Rider looking up at the sky. His eyes were closed like he was praying. I was too busy looking at Rider to notice that I bumped into Reed. He looked startled until he realized it was me.
“I’ve been meaning to speak to you Mercy.”
