Cake, Crop-Tops and Corpses

Blaze POV

November 20th 2021

“Why can’t I-I c-come?” Phoenix wailed.

He was lying on the kitchen floor crying and screaming, kicking his legs up and down, flailing his arms to the sides in a classic toddler tantrum.

“Because, it’s a grown up party.” I said for the millionth time.

“B-but Chase is m-my friend as w-w-well.” Phoenix sobbed.

“You’re going to have lots of fun at Isabella’s sleepover.”

Chase hadn’t wanted a party or anything but Ryder and Wild being Ryder and Wild, they just couldn’t resist it.

Chase had told Ryder about what Ryan had done to him. After the movie, he said he had something he needed to say. So whilst we were at the restaurant waiting for our food, he’d come clean.

He said the abuse had started when he was 4, the day he said he wanted to marry Ryder. It hadn’t been so bad until Chase started high-school, it was then that Ryan started hurting him properly. Despite my already knowing about it, I hadn’t realised it had started when Chase could barely form sentences with clarity.

And Ryder being the person he was, got so mad at Ryan that Wild said he’d started making murder plans which none of us would have taken seriously if it weren’t for the incredible detail of them.

So with Chase having no plan of ever going home, he hadn’t spoken to any of his sisters beside Tori who. He hadn’t minded so much, according to Holly whose friend was the sibling of the best friend of one of Chase’s sisters, everyone at the Lopez household had been quiet but calmer. Chase said he thought it was for the best but I knew him better, I knew secretly he was still hurting.

Wild had invited most of the school to the party, Tori had agreed to supervise and had asked some of her friends to help as well. Although Chase said that Tori was the most irresponsible babysitter in the world.

“I don’t want t-to go to a s-sleepover.” Phoenix shouted.

“I can ask Mrs Jackson to babysit then.”

“No!”

“There’s cake and ice cream at Isabella’s sleepover.”

“Fine, b-but I’m still upset.”

I rolled my eyes and smiled, scooping Phoenix off the floor and kissing his face.

“I love you.”

“I love you too Daddy.”

1 hour later

“Blaze, let’s go, we need to set up.” Wild called walking inside my room.

“I regret giving you a house key.” I sighed.

“Is that what you’re wearing?” She groaned.

I looked down at my outfit. Even though I was a model and had been for a couple of years, I still had a terrible sense of fashion. It was easier when people were choosing my clothes but when it was up to me, I ended up wearing the same t-shirt with the same pair of denim jeans.

“Blaze you can’t wear that.”

She was wearing a short figure-hugging blue dress, the kind that looked really small when it was on a hanger but somehow stretched itself out on the body so everything was just about covered.

“You look like a prostitute, why can’t I look normal?”

“I’ll take that as a compliment, prostitutes are some of the most badass women of all time.” Wild grinned, “Besides, this is Chase we’re talking about, you need to seduce him.”

Wild needed to get herself a hobby, she and Ryder were way too involved with mine and Chase’s relationship.

“I’m not going to seduce him Wild. We’re taking a break.”

“Fuck the break. Fuck Chase, literally fuck Chase tonight.”

“Just because you and Ryder are going at it 24/7 doesn’t mean we have to.”

Wild rolled her eyes and picked a shopping bag up from her floor that I had assumed was just party supplies.

“I bought this for you tonight.” She said holding it out to me.

I looked at her sceptically. The last time Wild had bought me something as a surprise, I’d nearly tried to kill her with it. What kind of 15-year-old girl buys their best friend a vibrator? I had wrapped it in one of mum’s old t-shirts and buried it in the garden like a dead corpse.

Pulling the items out from the bag I glared at her.

“Wild, I’m not wearing a crop top.”

“It’s not a crop-top, it’s a hoodie.”

“It’s half a hoodie.”

“Blaze, I made Ryder try it on beforehand, it’s not that short, it’s cute.”

“Then give it to Ryder.”

“Ugh come on, it would look so fucking good on you.”

I looked down at it again. It was mostly black, with red and orange flames at the bottom, kind of like one of Phoenix’s hot wheels cars.

“Just try it on at least. With the ripped jeans as well.”

So, as it turns out, it wasn’t as bad as I had previously thought. Not that I was going to admit that to Wild although she could probably tell I had stopped hating it.

“Okay, Blaze, so now you’ve got the outfit, we need to sort everything else out.”

“What?”

“Well I mean, you and Chase are totally going to fuck each other tonight.”

“What? N-no we’re not.”

She rolled her eyes again. I rolled mine back. I was not having sex with Chase tonight, he wasn’t even my boyfriend. Then again, if he was, would I do it with him?

“Well, just in case you do, are you going to use protection?”

“I don’t know Wild, we’re not even like together together.”

For the third time she rolled her eyes, if she didn’t stop, pretty soon they were going to pop out of their sockets.

“Whatever you say.”

“Can we just go? Ryder and Chase are probably breaking everything trying to set up.”

“Okay, okay, fine. But what’s with the jacket?”

“I feel awkward.” I said.

“But you look fucking hot.”

“I don’t want…”

“Lyric Nightshade, listen to me. I know what I’m doing. With any luck, Chase will be falling in love with you by midnight. Actually screw luck. With or without any luck, Chase will be…”

“I think I get it Wild.”

“Good.” She beamed.

We were just about to leave when Wild turned back to be, a wicked grin plastered over her face.

“I’d you want to practise sex before tonight, I can go dig up that vibrator from the garden if…”

“Wild, I will murder and you and toss your corpse in the ground next to it.”
