Chapter 1 - Ria
Ria
Iâm getting ready for work and the neighborsâ next door are shouting at each other again. âThose fucking neighbours,â I mutter under my breath as Iâm about to leave to go to work. Itâs 8 am and the neighbors from hell are arguing louder now. I bump into my neighbors Annie and Dillon from the other side of me.
âHow are you doing, have you settled in properly now.â
âYeah thanks, Iâm heading off to work.â I smile at Annie, she is always up for a good laugh.
âWhy donât you pop in for a drink when youâre finished later on?â
âThanks, I might do, see you later.â I wave at her as I dash out to catch my bus which ends up being five minutes late.
Finally, getting into work the security guy Tom is at the front and lets me through. I was lucky at getting this job, as there were a large number of people who went for the interview, so I was genuinely surprised when they gave me the job. Now I get settled down at my desk, ready for the hordes of people who come through every day.
âHi Ria, would you like a coffee once I get a chance later on?â
âTom, you know you are my favorite person here in the mornings.â
âIâll go once the 9 am rush is through the doors.â
âThanks, Tomâ
Sam is the boss and co-owns the building, has it set up so several businesses can work out of the same building. My job is to meet and greet many of the different clients and direct them to the correct floors and offices. As Sam comes in he informs me he has a client arriving at 9.30 am but as he is running a bit late I could hold them here till he was finished.
âOh Okay, Mr. Thomas.â He reminds me to call him Sam as he hates the formality of being called Mr Thomas.
âMy next client will be Charlie Webber.â
âYouâre Joking?â Iâm surprised. I realize we get high end people who like to be kept discreet.
âI donât want him crashing into his ex-wife who happens to be a client before him, you know the protocol about client discretion.â
âOh, okay, so Iâll keep him distracted then, Iâll make him some coffee or something.â
âThanks, youâre a lifesaver, Iâll ring down when Iâm ready for him.â
Sam disappears off. Thoughts of meeting Charlie Webber make me all excited. Heâs a famous actor. I used to have the hots for him.
âGod, I hope I donât mess up.â Several more people filter through then in walks Charlie Webber straight up to my desk.
âHi, Iâm here to see Sam,â He flashes his prize winning smile at me.
âSam is a little behind on his schedule.â
I Show him over to the seating where he can be more comfortable whilst he waits.
âWould you like something to drink?â
âDo you have juice?â
I go over to the little kitchen area and prepare him a juice and bring it back over to the seating area where I left him. Managing to keep it professional, although the way Charlie was checking me out when I walked off, Oh yes I could see in the reflection and Charlie was seriously checking out my behind. As I put his juice down on the table a man comes running in with a gun in his hand shouting.
I noticed Tom was laying on the ground at the side of the doors. Charlie grabbed me and pulled me down onto the floor, my heart rate rocketed as the man started waving the gun around shouting, I was thankful there was only Charlie and myself in the reception at the time.
Charlie kept himself on top of me as if he was protecting me, the weight of him pressed down and my mind was racing with all sorts of ideas. How can at a time like this, can I be the slightest bit turned on. In a matter of only seconds, the police are in the building shouting at the man to put his weapon down. Iâm trying to watch what is going on, the man is still shouting, Iâm not even clear what he is shouting about. He is still waving the gun about when he starts moving over to mine and Charlieâs direction.
âCome closer to the seats with me so we can move behind them.â He climbs off and helps me to now behind the couches. With our heads peeking over the back to see what was going on, Charlieâs arm came around my shoulder, his face right next to mine. Thoughts of how lucky I could be and so unlucky at the same time. Iâm feeling a little hot under the collar now. More police turn up now surrounding the man.
âSir you need to relax now, just lower your weapon and nobody else has to get hurt.â One of the officers waved his hand signaling for the guy to lower his weapon.
âThatâs right, itâs over now, lower your weapon onto the floor.â The larger of the two officersâ voices rumbles.
The man lowers his gun and the officers go to take him down when suddenly the man raises his gun and it goes off! The gunshot echoes in the foyer of the reception area, one of the policemen jumps on top of the guy knocking the gun out of his hands and it scatters along the floor as he is flattened down, arms pinned behind his back.
The big bulky police officer handcuffs the guy and two others come and take him away. Charlie still has his arm around me, I think it was because he was actually afraid.
âCharlie, are you okay?â
âI should be asking you, Youâre not hurt are you?â Charlieâs eyes are full of concern.
âNo, I think I am alrightâ I straighten myself up.
The police officer walks over to us and I feast my eyes on the gorgeous officer, I canât help but drool over him and his sexy as hell body. A deep and very sexy voice comes out from his mouth making me internally groan, at least I hope itâs inside my head.
âAre you both Okay?â The officerâs eyes stare deep into mine.
I was sure he took a deep breath when I bit my bottom lip as I stared at him. Charlie answers first saying he is Okay, the officer then gazes at me.
âDid anyone get hurt?â I barely whisper out as I couldnât catch my breath.
âNo it was a wild shot and no one was hurt, Can I ask you your names for the police records in case we need you as a witness.â
Charlie was reluctant about giving his name out, but the officer reassured him the offender was already under arrest for assault and brandishing a weapon. After Charlie thanked the officer and went to sit down, the officer turned back to me, boy did he make me go weak at the knees.
I gave him my name and address and also that I worked here at the reception. My mind wanders again, heâs a big guy and could easily lift me up in his arms and throw me about. I had been lost staring at him when he next spoke.
âOfficer Blake Peterson.â
When he says his name a rush of excitement explodes between my legs. After the police gave the all-clear and everyone could get back to work. Blake is last to leave and thanks me for my cooperation.
âNo thank you Officer Blake Sir.â I watched his eyes light up and Iâm sure I heard him grunt under his breath as he turned. He walked away and I watched his tight ass wiggle, his uniform hugging all the right places, and I canât help wondering whatâs underneath it. He turns and looks at me as he is going out the door and gives me a cheeky grin, my cheeks blush because I was caught looking.
âGod and this is only the start of my day.â
With all the commotion out of the way, I thank Charlie for his help earlier on and send him up to Samâs office. A few more clients came through and I got them to either wait in the waiting area or send them up to the correct floors and officeâs.
At lunchtime, everyone in the office goes out on an hourâs lunch break. I head to a local cafe for my lunch. My usual order is put in so I go find a seat. The cafe is busy but always has good service. My soup arrives quickly, as I am enjoying my lunch a noisy annoying guy sits down next to me knocking my arm and spilling my soup.
âOh for godâs sakeâ I glare at him, he doesnât even apologize and carries on with his lunch.
Luckily it didnât go on my outfit so I grabbed some napkins and cleaned up the mess. After finishing I go to leave and head back to work. Sheâs about to leave through the door when someone bumps into me, knocking me flying backwards, before I hit the floor a hand grabs me and pulls me up into his arms.
âSorry I was in a bit of a rush for my lunch and didnât see youâ His rough voice melted me.
My cheeks flush red as Blake stands there holding me, his scent sending a tingling sensation running through my body.
âThank you officer Blake sir, youâve saved me for the second time today and itâs only lunchtime.â I bite my bottom lip.
He took a sharp intake of breath and groaned, my body was pressed against his. Iâm short for time and need to be back. His arms leave me and Iâm disappointed as I was enjoying his touch.
Heading back to work I canât get him out of my head, tall, muscular, and he had a deep sexy voice. Lost in a daydream thinking about the run-in I had with Blake, how his arms were on my body when I bump into someone.
âOh, Iâm so sorryâ
âWatch it, ladyâ The guy was not happy.
I apologized to him again. He must have felt bad as he began talking again.
âIâm sorry I snapped, just had a rough morning and my fucking ex-wife is now demanding more from me in the divorce, Iâve got to go as Iâve got a meeting.â
âNo Iâm sorry, I had been lost in a daydream.â
I can see from the look he gives me he thinks Iâm some sort of dizzy blonde who lives in her head. He stops outside the building as I head to the reception and put my bag away in the draw.
The same man approaches my desk and I guess that he was here for Sam. I send him up and after several clients feed through the afternoon my day is nearly over. The security guard Tom had been taken to hospital after this morningâs incident and I wonder if he will be back tomorrow. The last client left, and now itâs all the different businessmen and women who are left finishing up their work. I pack away any files and grab my bag. The rain starts to fall as I leave the building.
âOh fantastic, I didnât bring an umbrella.â
Making a dash for the bus stop trying not to crash into anybody, I made it in time as my bus pulled up. Hopping on and getting the last seat available, I relax, knowing that itâs not too far a journey to my apartment. Climbing the stairs up to my floor the annoying couple is already fighting who lives next door. I wonder how long they will be at it this time. Pushing my key in the lock to open up, the guy from next door comes out slamming the door behind him and leaves with the woman still shouting.
