When she's ready

One by one they all step outside the office when they’re done with the talk about Elianne. Chris just ordered Danny to go and see Adina and Patrick is going with him. Now it’s just Chris, Fredric and Leo left.

Leo shakes his head, “I think it’s still very unfair to send Elianne away.”

Chris sighs, “not again, Leo. I know it is unfair, but it is the only option we have.”

The telephone on Chris’s desk rings and Chris picks up. “Anderson speaking.” Leo looks at him to figure out who’s on the phone. After a few minutes he notices his brother’s face reddening, his eyes looking furious. “I hope you are kidding me.” He growls angrily to the other person on the phone. “Are you serious? How could you let this happen?” He roars. “Do you have any idea how many people are now in danger because of this? And who will be the one to solve all this, do you think? Yes! I will have to.” Chris is raging, Leo looks at him with wide eyes, what the heck is going on? “I don’t care for your excuses, you ass!” Chris slams the phone onto its holder and shoves his chair backward, gets up and starts pacing back and forth.

“Christopher, what is going on?” Fredric asks him calmly.

“I’ve just gotten the confirmation that Mr. Vince Jones escaped prison a few weeks ago. He was spotted among those humans that burned down those villages weeks ago where males were brutally killed, and women raped.” Chris shakes his head. “Apparently he has bribed a guard who swapped his silver handcuffs for normal handcuffs, making him regain his strength and therefore he was able to escape.”

Chris holds still for a second. “You know what this means, right? We are all in danger. Especially you, dad. You should move back into the Packhouse so we can keep an eye on you. I need to be sure that you are safe at all times.”

“Christopher, you need to calm down. It won’t come to that, son. I’m not going to get myself abducted ever again. I am back to my old self, so I’ll be able to defend myself properly now. I am not going to move back into the Packhouse just because this lunatic is on the loose.”

Leo looks up. “I could move in with you, dad. If you’d like that. Not because I think you can’t defend yourself, but for Chris’s peace of mind. He has a lot on his plate right now. He can’t worry over you too.”

Fredric looks at his eldest son. “What do you think, Christopher? Will that ease your restless mind a little?”

Chris nods. “I think so, but you’re coming with Leo whenever he is giving his trainings. We need those trainings now more than ever, and I don’t want you to be alone in that house of yours.”

Chris gets up from his chair. “I’m going to see how Danny is. The way he just behaved was not like him. I hope it’s not his wound that is infected and getting him a fever.” Chris looks worried.

When Elianne walks out of Alpha Chris’s office, she follows her dad and her brother to the clinic. She wants to know what is going on with her brother. The way he is behaving and the way he is sweating, make it look like his wound is infected.

While on their way, she sees Danny swaying from left to right and she moves closer so she can support him. Her father starts to do the same at the other side, and together they support him until they are inside the clinic.

Dr. Adina was apparently already expecting them because she greets them almost immediately. “Hello Mr. Harris.” She smiles a little and gestures for them to follow her into one of the examination rooms. “You left the clinic a little too soon, don’t you think?”

Danny nods and enters the room. “Doctor I don’t feel so good, I feel like I’m going to throw up.”

Adina hands him a bowl immediately. “Do you think you can climb on the bed for me?”

Danny nods again.

“I think I’m going to take some blood to run some tests, is that alright with you?”

“Anything, doctor, just help me feel better.”

Ava bursts through the door of the examination room and immediately hurries to Danny’s side. She’s still in her nurse’s uniform. “God, honey, I already told you that it was no good idea to leave the hospital so soon. Look at you!”

She turns to Dr. Adina who’s pulling off the bandage from Danny’s neck to examine it. “Do you think it is an infection caused by the bite wound from the rogue? Or do you think it is something else?”

“I am not sure, but the wound looks fine to me, almost healed. There’s no redness to be seen and there’s no fluid coming out of it. So, I don’t think it’s coming from the bite wound. Just to be safe I’m going to give you an antibiotic for werewolves while we wait for the results from the blood test.”

“I need to-” Danny doesn’t finish his sentence, but instead throws up into his bowl. When he is done, he wipes his mouth, his hands shaking while doing so.

“Feel better?” Patrick asks him.

“A little.” Danny tries to smile. “Actually, I feel like crap.”

“I am going to see if there is a room available for you, then we can take your blood and after that you can rest while we wait for the test results.” Dr. Adina turns around and walks out of the examination room. Ava walks right behind her.

Someone knocks on the door and when the door opens, Chris comes in. “Beta,” Chris frowns worriedly. “What the hell was that in my office? What the heck is happening with you?”

“If I knew, I would’ve already done something about it, Alpha. The doctor is getting me a room. She wants to take some blood so she can run some tests.”

“So, it doesn’t have anything to do with your wound?” Chris asks.

“She doesn’t think so.”

“Hmm.” Chris rubs his stubble. “Is there anything that happened during your fight with the rogue? Anything that was not like a normal fight with a rogue? Did he do anything different? Anything that caught your attention?”

“He was big. He was as big as you are. He had green eyes, like the ones from Jones back in the day. Do you thi- Wait. Was that-?” Danny’s brain good in overdrive. “That was Jones?”

“Yes. I’ve already talked to the authorities and apparently Jones has bribed one of his guards who has helped him escape prison.”

“But he was big and strong, seriously. I don’t know what the guy has done, but this was not normal.”

“I don’t know what the guy has done. I don’t know what happened to him after we handed him over to the authorities. I still need to find out what his connection is with the group of humans who’ve lit the fire. There still are a lot of questions I need to find an answer to. Starting with what is happening to you. I need to get back to work, let me know when you find out anything, okay?”

Danny nods. “Will do. Do you have any paperwork I can help you out with while I’m in here?”

Chris shakes his head. “Nope. You need to rest; you need to get better.” Chris opens the door and walks out.

Patrick gets up from his seat. “Do you need anything to drink, Elianne? I’m going to see if there’s anything to find to cure my dry throat.”

Elianne shakes her head. “No, I’m good. Thanks.”

Danny looks at her. “Hey sis. You look pale. Are you feeling alright? If not, you’re at the right place here. Right at the source to get help.”

Elianne sighs. “You know, there are people actually worried about you, other than mom and dad and Ava. I’m just a little shaken up. It’s nothing.”

“I know. Sorry. I just don’t know how to feel right now. There’s something not right with me and I don’t know what it is.” Danny sighs and Elianne grabs his hand.

“You’ll be alright. Dr. Adina will do everything she can to make you better.”

They are quiet for a moment both lost in their own thoughts.

“Are you sure you’re okay with your move to Uncle Richard?” Danny looks at his sister with a frown. “You don’t have to agree with this, you know. It’s Leo who is not in control of his wolf, not you.”

“I know, but I may have tempted him too, provoked him a little. Just before the fire, when Dr. Adina came by to check on grandma, he gave the doctor a ride. I may or may not have initiated a kiss when we were waiting.”

“Elianne! Seriously? What will they think of me now? He was trying to take all the blame in that office, while you were just as much to blame!”

“I’m sorry Danny.”

“You should apologise to him! Stop playing with the man’s feelings. It’s not fair to him at all. You don’t feel the mating bond just yet, but he can, and I can tell you from experience how hard it is to resist it. Especially when your mate starts kissing you!”

Elianne looks down and nods slightly. “I will.”
