Day Three

It was getting hard controlling myself. Every day that passed we became better friends. We had been working for three days on the house and were beginning to see some real progress on the outside. I looked up to watch Adara cutting vines off the house, carefully balancing on the ladder. I took a deep breath as I watched her move, sweat glistening on her face and on her chest. Her V-neck tee showing just the smallest amount of cleavage and her shorts doing all the right things.

Stop fantasizing and just mate her already... my wolf muttered. He was growing antsy as the days went on. Having her nearby constantly was making the mate pull worse and worse.

"Can I help you?"

I focused my gaze to see Adara staring down at me, her hand on her hip.

I shook my head, "I'm fine here."

She nodded, "Sure you are. Enjoying the view?"

I smirked, knowing I had been caught staring. "Actually if you could turn a little this way..." I hollered, motioning with my hands.

Adara laughed, "You're shameless." She turned back to her work and I just about had a heart attack.

After working all morning we sat in the grass at the back of the house, looking up at our progress. We had managed to clear all of the vines from the back and sides, leaving just the front of the house.

"This really is a beautiful house," Adara said, taking a bite of an apple.

I smiled at her before looking up at the house, "It really is." I looked down, fiddling with a fork, "Adara?"

"Hmm?" she hummed, turning to me with a smile.

"What would you say to spending the rest of the day working on the alpha apartment? Then we could move in here and not have to keep going back and forth."

Adara smiled, "I like that idea."

I looked up at her surprised. Maybe she didn't pick up on the fact that there was only one bed and we would be sharing it. I figured I would make sure. "You don't mind sharing a bed with me?"

Adara laughed, "We are mates. We'll have to share a bed at some point."

I grinned, excited that she was okay with that. I could feel my wolf dancing in my head, clearly even more excited than I was.

She laid back on the blanket and closed her eyes, taking a deep breathe. "I like it here, it feels like home."

"You don't miss your pack?" I asked quietly.

"A little. I miss nursing." Then she turned to me with a smile, "But you're my pack now."

I liked that. I lost myself for a moment and leaned down, pressing my lips to hers. She wove her fingers into my hair, kissing me back fiercely. Our mouths moved together, tasting each other and getting lost in the moment. I cupped her cheek in my hand, letting the touch send flames through my fingers. After a few minutes I pulled back, attempting to calm my breathing. She propped herself up on her elbows and gave me a smile, her lips red from our passionate moment. "What was that for?" she asked with a smirk.

I shrugged, "I like that I'm your pack."

Adara smiled before lying back down on the blanket and reaching for my hand. She held it tight, drawing little circles on the back of my hand with her thumb. I took a deep breath, enjoying the moment.

"Well..." Adara announced, sitting up, "Ready to get back to work?"

I nodded, "Let's go."

After working the rest of the day we ran home to the cabin, shifting into our wolves to make the hike home faster. I made dinner for us, Adara still not quite figuring out the wood burning stove.

She sat on the front porch of the cabin, looking out at the forest and the evening sky. I walked out to her, handing her a plate of food before sitting down beside her.

"I think I can honestly say I will miss this little cabin. I've enjoyed staying out here," she said, looking at the scenery around us.

I laughed, "Weren't you the one yelling in anger this morning when you didn't have any hot water?"

She scowled, "Because you took all of it!!"

I smirked, "You could have climbed in with me."

Her eyes widened before she nudged me gently with her arm, "Ryder James, you stop that. Or I'll make you sleep outside."

I laughed, "Anything is better than that chair."

She shrugged, looking down at her plate of food, "You can always just stay in the bed. I don't mind, and you deserve to sleep comfortably."

I looked at her sideways before looking out at the forest, "Careful, I might take you up on that."

Adara smirked, "I wouldn't have offered if I wasn't okay with it, you goon. Besides, you've been taking such good care of me, its the least I can do."

I shook my head, "You've been taking care of me too."

She squinted her eyes at me, "And how have I done that?"

"You stayed, you decided to give this a chance. I know I can't be half the Alpha I want to be without you, but I also know this is hard and you deserve more than we have."

Adara smiled warmly at me before kissing my cheek, "Ryder, I don't need a lot. And I'm glad I stayed, too."

I took a deep breath and slapped my thighs, "Well, want to clean up dinner and then head to bed?"

Adara nodded, taking my plate and walking to the sink. I joined her, washing the dishes and handing them to her to dry. We both changed and walked to the bed. Adara climbed in before patting the spot next to her, "Don't be shy, I won't bite."

OH GOSH... PLEASE BITE!!!! PLEAAAASE BITE! My wolf howled in my head. I chuckled as I climbed into the bed.

"What?" she asked me with a curious look.

"Nothing, my wolf is just being an idiot," I replied with a grin.

She cuddled into the bed, pulling the blankets up to her chin. We laid in bed facing each other. I looked into her deep green eyes and smiled. "Goodnight," I said quietly.

"Goodnight, Ryder,” she whispered before closing her eyes and drifting off to sleep.
