Two weeks. It took two weeks, and a lot of back-breaking labor, to get the mess that was once Words Galore cleaned up.
Trenton’s body was still pretty banged up, so he knew he couldn’t do much as far as helping clean the place up, which meant he’d had to hire a crew and supervise. While the cleaning worked on that, he set to doing the inventory on the ruined books and there were a lot of them.
He’d also called to tell his parents about what had happened. He’d nearly had to threaten his dad to keep him from coming down to help. Dad had wanted heads to roll for what had been done, but Trenton had a secret to keep and if his dad had come the jig would have been up, everyone would have known who he was.
As far as finding who had done it? Well, unfortunately, the police had found no evidence to link anyone to it, so it had become a closed case.
So, for now, he decided it was best not to re-open the store, at least for a little while, it wasn’t as if he needed the income anyway. Instead, he decided he’d just concentrate on building a good relationship between himself and Melissa.
Speaking of relationships, Melissa was still getting messages nearly every day from that creep Chad. He knew it’s eating her up inside because she just wanted his harassment to end. Trenton wanted it to end too so that he and Melissa could concentrate on their ‘happy ever after’ because that’s what he wanted with her. He knew though that until this business with Chad went away it would continue to be a black spot on their happiness.
Right now, he was sitting in his living room window seat, staring out at the darkened tree line. Melissa had gone out earlier for her nightly run, then she’d go by her house to check on things before coming back.
Trenton grinned as he leaned his head against the glass, thinking, I’m in love with a furry wolven! I still can’t believe that what she is, a wolven, is real. Yet, the more I learn about her the more I am in awe of her.
Melissa had told him a lot of things about herself. One of the things was how wolvens have a mating ritual that binds the two mates together, something about mixing scents, and to them, it’s more binding than a wedding. Which means, her wolven already considers him to be her… well, she calls him her chosen, but the human equivalent of that would-be husband.
Husband, I like the sound of that, I truly do.
In fact, he liked the idea so much that yesterday he’d gone and bought her a necklace. He’d debated on getting her a ring, but then he’d realized that when she phases into her wolven it might be too small, or she’d have to remove it and it could be easily lost. So, instead, he’d gotten the necklace that would be long enough to fit her wolven’s thicker neck. He’d made sure to get one made of gold, because she couldn’t wear silver, and had a large amber stone cut in a heart shape, surrounded by diamonds. He was hoping to be able to give it to her that evening and was hopeful that she would like it.
The door slamming brought him from his thoughts, causing him to turn with a smile. The smile quickly left his face as he looked at Melissa standing there, a large box in her hand and her face tear ravaged. Jumping up, he moved quickly toward her. “What’s wrong? What is this?”
“I-I went home and there was a package on my porch. Inside was, well, I’ll let you look for yourself.”
Trenton gently took the box from her and set it on the table. Opening it up, he saw what looked to be white lingerie, but it was the note on top of it that had anger rising within him.
It read: My dearest Foxxy,
You thought you could hide from me, dear, but I went to the one person who knows you best. Oh, she tried to hide from me by going to her sister’s place, but I found her, and I made sure she talked. Don’t worry your pretty little head about her though, I didn’t kill her. No, she’s only in a coma, after all, I know you plan to have her as your bridesmaid at our wedding.
Now, I know you’ll want to pick your dress, but here is something sexy to wear on our wedding night.
I can’t wait to see you walk down the aisle, my beautiful bride-to-be. Until then, I love you, and I’ll see you soon.
Your loving husband-to-be, Chad.
“Oh, Melissa.” Trenton looked up to find her silently crying. Throwing down the note he pulled her into his arms. Then, he stood, rocking her as she cried.
When the tears stopped, she lifted her head to look at him. “I-I need to call her sister Stella tomorrow and find out if… if it’s true or…” She paused to take a deep breath. “I- If it is true, I need… I need to go see her.”
“I know, I know you do. Right now, though, let me take care of you, baby.”
Then, he picked her up and carried her to his bathroom. Once there, he started the shower before stripping and helping her in. Next, he washed away all the dirt from her body before washing her hair, soothing her the best he could.
When she was clean, he helped her out and gently toweled her dry. He didn’t bother putting clothes on her, however, instead, he just picked her up and carried her into the bedroom. Laying her down, he lay down next to her and held her gently while she cried again.
“Why Trenton? What is it about me that he can’t let go of?” Melissa asked in a sad voice.
“I don’t know, but we’ll get this fixed Melissa.”
“Yes, it will be fixed, one way or another,” she agreed before falling into a fitful sleep.
Waking up the next morning was difficult because waking up meant remembering Chad and what he had done. All she wanted to do was sleep and forget about her messed up life, that is until she rolled over and saw Trenton sleeping peacefully next to her. Seeing him there reminded her that she had something worth living for. Having him in her life made her want to get up and face the day, to live!
Reaching out, she gently pushed his hair back before running her hand down his cheek, feeling the slight stubble that was there. They hadn’t made love yet, but she wanted to, with all her heart, she wanted to give him her whole self, to truly be one with him.
I don't know what the future is going to bring. I might be able to get rid of Chad, or he might somehow get rid of me, I don’t know. Trenton is mine, my chosen one, and I almost lost him, proving just how easily life can be gone.
A memory pushed forward in her mind then, one she had pushed away. She remembered how just a week before their break-up Chad had pushed, hard, for her to have sex with him. She’d denied him and she knew the first thing he would do if he got his hands on her was to take what he wanted. She wanted her first time to be with Trenton, the man she loved, that her wolven loved, not to a mad man.
“Good morning,” Trenton said, his voice husky with sleep husky voice as his eyes fluttered open.
“Are you feeling a bit better this morning?”
“I suppose, but Trenton there’s something I want to ask of you.”
“Ask away,” he encouraged.
Looking down, Melissa played with his curly chest hair as she began by saying, “You know I love you, and when I go back to Indiana, I don’t know what I’ll find there. For all, I know Chad could be waiting for me.”
“That is why I’ll be going with you Melissa,” he told her, causing her head to come up. “Don’t even try to argue with me about it. I know you can protect yourself, but I want to be with you. You told me yourself that being your chosen one is the same as us being married. What kind of husband would I be to let my wife walk into possible danger by herself?”
With a soft sob, she threw her arms around him as she told him, “Oh Trenton, I love you so much. I want you to make love to me, and I want to mark you as mine soon.”
“I would be proud to bare your mark Melissa,” he softly whispered as his lips brushed softly over hers. “And I thought you would never ask.”
His lips moved against hers more fully as he rolled her under him.
With a moan, she brought her hands up and tangled them in his hair, tugging gently. Their passion raged, hotter and hotter, quickly spiraling out of control as clothes were removed and touches were given.
Then, as the sun rose high in the sky, Trenton made love to her, claiming her body as his.
