Chapter 18

Trenton’s hand rubbed along her hip, as he placed kisses on her shoulder before murmuring, “Have you always worn your hair this short?”

“No, I cut it in hopes of no one recognizing me, but I don’t like it. So, I don’t believe I’ll ever be cutting it this short again.”

“Mm…okay,” he murmured. “What did you mean exactly when you said you wished to “mark” me?

“I’ll bite you, hard enough to draw blood. When my wolven’s saliva hits your bloodstream, it does something to your body chemistry. Although, I’m not sure exactly how, but I do know it causes my scent to mix with yours. I’ll also ingest just enough of your blood to mix your scent into mine.”

“So, we’ll smell like each other?”

Laughing she turned her head to look at him, answering, “Only to someone who is wolven because we have very sensitive noses. To anyone else you will still smell like you.”

“That’s good because I’d hate to suddenly start smelling like a girl,” he said with a wink.

Melissa rolled over to face him then, gently pushing him over onto his back as she did. “That would be bad because I think you smell really, really, good already.”

“Is that why you’re always sniffing at my neck?”

Melissa laughed a bit as she buried her nose in his neck, running it up to his ear and giving it a nip. “Yep.”

“Will it hurt?” He asked solemnly, all laughter gone.

“No, it won’t because I’m going to get you… excited first,” she said, calming his worries. “However, when I do bite you it’s going to… arouse you to the extreme.”

“Extreme?” Trenton questioned, raising an eyebrow.

“Yeah, I don’t know how else to explain it.”

“Alright, I’ll take your word for it. Now, as much as I’d like to lay here all day with you, I think we need to get up and make some plane reservations.”

It all came rushing back to her then and she took multiple deep breaths to try and calm herself, mentioning, “I need to call Stella and confirm…”

Trenton handed her cellphone from the bedside.

Melissa gave him a grateful kiss before quickly finding Stella’s number in her contacts and dialed. Then, silently she waited, listening to it ring. When Stella answered, she said, “Hi Stella, it’s me Foxxy. Please tell me it isn’t…”

Stella began to sob on the other end of the line as she said, “Oh, Foxxy, I wish I could, but I can’t. I just came from the hospital to shower and eat while they run some more tests.”

“When, when did it happen?”

“It’s been three days. I was going to call you, but I couldn’t find Lisa’s phone because it was lost during her attack. Anyway, since I have you on the phone now, I save this number. Are you planning to come?”

“Wild horses couldn’t keep me away, Stella. You know she’s my heart sister, so I’ll be on the first plane I can get.”

“Okay, just let me know when you get here, and I’ll give you directions to the hospital if you need it.”

“Okay, I’ll call later,” Melissa murmured. Then, after saying goodbye, she hung up before turning in Trenton’s arms and breaking down into tears once more.

It is so unfair that this has happened to such a sweet person. Chad is going to pay dearly for this, I’ll make sure of it.

After Melissa, had cried herself to sleep, Trenton got up and started some coffee. While it perked, he called to find out where his dad’s jet was. After finding out that it was close by, he called the pilot. He then told the man where he needed him to be, what time to be there and to be fueled up and ready to go. He then started cooking breakfast.

From behind him, he heard Melissa softly ask, “Can I help?”

“No, I have it under control, but you can give me a kiss.”

With a slight smile on her pale face, she moved in to give him a hug and a kiss. Then she lay her head on his arm, watching, while he flipped the eggs.

“I should call the airlines and…”

“No need, I’ve taken care of that. After breakfast, we’ll go over to your house for you to pack. Then we’ll take Blue over to Cindy’s before heading to the airport,” he told her as he grabbed the plate next to the stove, adding eggs to the sausage already on it. Picking up the second plate he placed eggs on it also as he asked, “Do you want toast?”

Melissa shook her head.

“Okay then, sit and I’ll bring your plate.”

Kissing his shoulder, she sat down as she informed him, “You’re so good to me.”

They then quickly ate before heading out. Two hours later they headed off to the airport, Trenton behind the wheel of her truck.

“I like this truck, maybe I should get myself one,” Trenton murmured, then added, “I have to replace my car when I return anyway.”

“Yeah, I need to look for a vehicle also, this one is a rental. Maybe we should go car shopping together.”

“Mm… sounds like a plan,” he agreed.

“What flight are we on? Is it going to be a straight shot or round-a-bout?” She asked as she looked over at him.

“Actually, I’m borrowing my dad’s jet. It was close and we’ll get there quicker than flying commercial.”

“Your dad owns a jet?” She asked with a surprised look.

“He does. I used to have one, but I sold it with the business,” he confided with a sideways look at her. He realized she didn’t know much about his parents because he hadn’t told her. “I may be well off, but my dad’s even more so. In fact, he’s been on the verge of being a billionaire for quite some time.”

“Wow,” she murmured before becoming lost in her thoughts.

Trenton had a lot on his mind too, so the rest of the trip was silent except for the radio playing softly. Within a short time, they were arriving at the landing strip and taking off for Indiana. They arrived there quickly, but it was late.

So, he checked them into a nice motel on the outskirts of town. Both were exhausted, so after a quick shower, they crawled into bed and were fast asleep almost as soon as their heads hit the pillow.

“Please tell me it isn’t time to get up yet,” Melissa moaned as she pulled a pillow over her head. Hearing laughter, she moved the pillow just enough to look at him with one eye.

“Not a morning person, how did I not notice this?” Trenton asked with a twinkle in his eye.

Pulling the pillow from her head, she stuck her tongue out at him before sighing. I feel guilty for feeling so… well, so happy. My best friend in the whole world is in a coma because of my psycho ex, and here I am feeling happier than I’ve felt in a long time.

“Melissa? We need to get up.”

“I know,” she whispered.

Trenton huff softly before saying, “Tell me.”

“How can I be so happy right now when Lisa is laying in a hospital. She might never come out of her coma, Trenton.”

Pulling her into his arms, he kissed the top of her head as she snuggled into his chest. “I know you feel bad about what happened to her and I know you’re also feeling like it’s your fault…”

“It is my fault, Trenton, because it’s my ex that put her there, to begin with! So, how can I not feel like it’s my fault?” Melissa almost shouted as she pulled out of his arms and sat up.

“It isn’t your fault because you didn’t put her there, Chad did. Blame him, be mad at him, find a picture of him and spit on it, but don’t blame yourself for this. From what you’ve told me of Lisa, she wouldn’t.” Then he got up and headed for the shower, a hurt look on his face.

Melissa watched him leave as anger raged through her body. By the time he got out though she had gotten the rage under control and dressed. Glancing up at him as he walked out of the bathroom, she apologized, “I’m sorry Trenton, you’re right, she wouldn’t want me to blame myself. So, I need to stop feeling guilty and figure out what I’m going to do.”

He solemnly nodded and said, “Okay then, let’s figure this out. What is the plan if Chad is here?”

Melissa began to pace, her wolven howling in her head for blood. After a moment she stopped, turned to look at him, and snarled, “You may not like this, but if it comes to it Trenton, I will kill him! I fear when he finds me it’s going to be him or me, and I have too much to live for.”

Trenton took in a big gulp of air and then slowly let it out. “Just whatever you do, don’t get caught.”

“I won’t,” she promised. She then gave him a chaste kiss before walking to the bathroom to use it and brush her teeth. When she walked out five minutes later, she said, “Now, let’s go see Lisa.”
