Epilogue 1

If you told me a year ago, I was going to be somebody’s wife I would have laughed in your face. But I would have even laughed harder in your face if you told me that I would marry a woman who I called Elena when I first met but now goes by the name Alexia. But all of the above is true. I’m so in love with Alexia and today is the day I get to see her walk down the aisle. I get to make her mine officially.

I can tell you that it has been a hell of a ride. Even the wedding preparations were extremely rough. My parents had to have a saying in everything but I made sure to let them think that they had a say in anything. Well, with parents I mean my mother. “I would love to have flowers draped everywhere when you walk down the aisle preferably white daisies” My mother yells to the florist. I look at the florist while he looks at me and we decide to just nod in silence and talk about the actual flowers later. He gives me a pitying smile and walks away.

I hate daisies and Alexia and I decided on peony roses since the theme colors are peach and copper.

“Hey, where is he going?” My mother asks. “We weren’t done yet.”

“I think he gets it, mom, daisies everywhere,” I tell my mom while patting her on her back. Ever since we got close again, she has been obsessed with our wedding. She wants everything to be perfect and wants to make up for the lost time. I get it but it’s exhausting sometimes. She means well though and that’s different from what I’m used to.

I can tell you that wedding dress shopping was even harder. People always tell that girls turn in to bridezillas...well I got a momzilla if that’s even a thing? I had to try on sixteen dresses but I already knew that it was going to be the first I tried on that day. And I can’t even complain to Alexia because she and my mom have become very tight. She always tells me that I’m blessed to have a mother and I can’t argue with that because she doesn’t have anyone to share this with.

I finally picked out a dress it’s a mermaid dress with a strapless sweetheart neckline and ruffled skirt. And I love that it’s covered with buttons down the back of this gown that creates a dramatic effect. I haven’t seen Alexia's dress yet but I can’t wait to see her. We are having a small ceremony with only the people that matter to us. My mother had a different opinion about that but I didn’t want people around the wedding that I didn’t have a connection with. And since Alexia only had a few family members left we decided to keep it small.

“You look beautiful,” my sister says to me while walking into my dressing room. She’s wiping tears from her eyes and is looking for a tissue in her purse. We are getting married in a castle that has two towers on each side. Alexia is in one and I’m in the other one getting ready for our big day. “Thank you, how’s Alexia?” I ask my sister.

“Looking beautiful as well!” she tells me while jumping up and down. “Okay, behave, Jasmin, before you ruin your make-up,” she tells herself.

“What is she wearing?”

“Hold your lips sealed or else I will ruin your lipstick,” my make-up artist tells me sternly.

“She’s wearing something white”

“Oh, come on anyt-”

“See, you ruined it. Damn it” my make-up artist yells while looking with big eyes at me.

“Sorry,” I tell my make-up artist but ignoring her immediately.

“Can you give something away Jazz?” I ask Jazz with my big puppy eyes.

“Yeah, that she’s beautiful and that you are lucky that’s she’s going to be yours in 30 minutes!”

“I meant something I didn’t know”

“Well, that I’m giving a speech at dinner, that’s something you didn’t know yet,” Jazz tells me with a smug smile.

“Never mind.”

“Wow, you are giving up so fast. I’m not used to that Sis”

“Well, I didn’t want the answer anyway. I want it to be a surprise when I see her walking down the aisle.”

“Good, mom is already yelling to all the vendors. So one person losing their mind is enough” Jazz tells me while making a crazy gesture into the mirror.

We both laugh and my make-up artist looks angry at me again. But after 10 minutes she stands up and examines me from all angles. “Done,” she tells me standing with two hands on her waist. I stand up and admire myself in the mirror. I haven’t felt this beautiful in a while. My hair is perfectly done, I wear it loose and curly and have a braid draped around it.

There’s a knock on the door and my sister opens it. “Ready?” my dad asks while looking at me. His eyes are bright and teary and I can see nothing but proudness in it. “You look mesmerizing Tara,” my dad tells me while wiping away his tears.

“Stop it, dad, before I ruin my make-up,” I tell him while putting on my heels.

We walk onto the balcony and my dad holds me tight. “Please don’t let me fall, dad,” I tell him.

“Never again” he whispers in my ear while kissing me on my cheek.

A cello and pianist are playing our song. It’s a song from Elvis Can’t stop falling in love with you. I walk down the stairs with my father by my side. There’s an aisle between candles and flowers that leads towards the marriage officiant. My heart is raising and I can’t wait to see Alexia. My dad kisses me on my cheek and I stand there alone waiting for Alexia. I look back and see something white walking down. Alexia is wearing an A-line dress with hints of peach in it. It has glitters all over it and she looks like a Diva and the most beautiful woman I have ever seen at the same time.

Christopher is holding her hand and she looks at him. He nods at her and then our eyes meet. Those beautiful eyes that have kept me safe, eyes that can raise my heartbeat and slow it down when they need to. She’s wearing her hair up and curls are falling from her bun. She smiles at me and I get a bit weak in the knees.

I could grow old while looking at that smile

Christopher grabs Alexia’s hand and puts it in mine. I smile at him and he nods at me. Christopher is in a dark blue suit with a peach tie. He walks over to Ana and sits next to her. I love that Ana has someone. They both look very happy.

When Alexia touches my hand, I can’t help but feel butterflies growing into my stomach. Her familiar hand squeezing mine and I step a bit closer inhaling her flowery scent.

“Ladies and Gentleman thank you for coming to the wedding of Tara Gopal and Alexia Brown, the way these two met is a special story I would like to share with you today. But before I begin you may all be seated. You see today I would like to share with you all a story of love. Jay’s love in this matter. He is the one that brought these two beautiful women together. They didn’t intend for this to happen but isn’t that what love is about? Love is the thing that happens to you when you least expect it. Love is the thing that overcomes you when you don’t go looking for it. And that’s what Alexia and Tara found and that’s why Tara I would like for you to express your vows to Alexia.”

My heart is shaking and I prepared for this moment a lot. Alexia is looking at me and I get calm inside. “My sweet Alexia, you came into my life when I didn’t even know you existed. But the first time I saw you sitting in the waiting room my heart skipped a beat, my palms wear sweaty and it’s like your eyes were looking right through me. Because that’s what you have always done since we met. When I’m scared and pretending not to be you know without me even telling you. I can say that our love for each other is like that roller coaster ride we took in Dubai. We had a few bumps but we never slowed down. My love for you will never slow down and like that ride, I’m getting more excited to spend my whole life with you!” I see Alexia wiping her tears and Chris standing up giving her his handkerchief.

She smiles at me. “Wow, I don’t think I’m going to top that but I can sure try!” she tells me while laughing and crying at the same time. “Tara, I don’t think you know how much you mean to everyone here and especially to me. You are the most genuine, sincere, and lovable person I have ever met. When Jay told me about you, he always had a twinkle in his eyes. And the first day I saw you something clicked inside me. I heard Jay talk about you in my head and I know that at that moment that protecting you was my top priority. Little did I know that you didn’t need protecting. Because Tara you are a force of nature and nothing can stop you. And today that I get to make you mine is beyond my dreams. I love that the way you take care of me, the way you look at me like I’m the only person in the world for you. I don’t know what I did to deserve you but I know that I will forever prove that I love you. I can’t promise that I won’t hurt you but I will do anything to make it up to you and never stop fighting for you!”

Tears are falling down my face but only happy tears. Tears that mean that I fought for so long not to be lonely and know I have someone who wants to spent to rest her life with me. Alexia hands me Christopher’s handkerchief and we both laugh and cry.

“Wow, those were beautiful words. Well, now for the hard part!”

“Do you Tara Gopal take Alexia to be your wedded wife and will you be faithful to her so long as you shall live?” “I do.”

“And do you Alexia Brown take Tara to be your wedded wife and will you be faithful to her so long as you shall live?” “I do.”

“Rings please” the officiant calls out to Chris and Jazz they both stand up and Chris hands Alexia my ring.

“Tara, with this ring I promise to love you for the rest of my life.” She puts it on and I can’t stop smiling at her.

Jazz hands me Alexia’s ring and I put it on her finger. “Alexia, with this ring I’m telling the whole world that you are mine and mine alone” I laugh while winking at her. “But most of all it’s a symbol of our love that you forever will carry with you”

“By the power vested in me I now pronounce you wives. You may now kiss your bride”

Alexia kisses me softly on my lips. Her kiss tastes a bit salty but I don’t mind. I will never get enough of her lips on mine. And now I don’t have to. Because those lips belong to me for the rest of my life...
