Chapter 24

Tobias couldn’t help the groan that escaped him as his Geliebte rocked his world under the dirty greasy car. Of all places for her to remind him of her love, but he wasn’t going to complain because her mouth felt so good. He was soon groaning and losing it, his hips jerking in his completion.

“I love you so much, Toby,” she whispered to him when she finally pulled her mouth from him.

Looking into her eyes, he saw nothing but the truth. “I love you to meine Geliebte, my beloved. I’m sorry I became so angry, but I…”

She lay a finger across his mouth.

“Hush, it was my fault, not yours.” She sighed and lay her head on his chest. “I just wanted to find out things, things that I felt had been kept from me. I didn’t mean to do wrong by you. I guess I thought I could find things out, then go with you. I didn’t realize how close you were to losing it, Toby. I’m so sorry.”

Tobias gave a deep sigh and rubbed his hand along her back up under her shirt. “I think there are a lot of things that we have both assumed about each other, baby. I thought because you are a hunter that you would know things about vampires. I see now that there are a lot of things about me you don’t know about my species. In a way, that is a good thing because it means the hunters don’t know as much about us as we have always feared.”

“We do know a lot of things, but I’ll admit to not knowing about beloveds. Probably because it is not something that truly concerns a hunter as far as destroying a vampire. We also assumed it was a myth, not a fact.”

“Hm…” he said before he stiffened.

“What? What’s wrong?” Kendra whispered.

“Someone is coming,” Tobias informed her.

“Hey, is it safe to come in yet? I’m not going to be hit by flying objects, am I?”

“Leo, what are you doing here?” Tobias called out before giving an annoyed hiss.

Leo laughed. “Falco called and said you were mad, upset, and probably out doing something stupid. The way he was talking, I was surprised to find you here. Um… why are the two of you under the car?”

“To give you a reason to ask questions,” Tobias grumbled, hating that they had been interrupted.

Kendra laughed even as she fixed his jeans and slowly crawled out. Once she was out and standing, she asked, “Hey, Leo, how’s life treatin’ ya?”

“Good I suppose,” Leo answered slowly. “Did you talk some sense into my Bruder?”

“Talk? Um—no, not so much,” Kendra told him.

Tobias rolled his eyes and crawled out in time to catch the startled look that crossed Leo’s face. He had to laugh at his Bruder’s stupefied look.

“You couldn’t find anywhere except under the car to… to…?” Leo stuttered.

Tobias continued to chuckle lightly before he murmured, “Teach you to ask questions!”

“When the mood hits,” Kendra added with a giggle.

With a snort of disgust, Leo turned and walked out the door.

Tobias and Kendra laughed until they were in tears, and he knew they were going to be okay. When the laughter subsided, Tobias took Kendra home. Then, he took her to the bed where he made love to her over, and over, again. He made sure this time though to give her blood, so she wouldn’t get weak. It was as if he couldn’t get enough of her, but she didn’t seem to mind. When they could go no more, they lay basking in each other’s arms, content just to be until sleep took them.

When Tobias awakened the next morning, Kendra was still curled up next to him. He lay there for a long time, just running his hand up and down her bare back until hunger forced him from their bed. Once his hunger was satisfied, he went to lay back down.

“Mm…Toby?”

Ja, baby?”

“Why are you up so early?” She mumbled as she rolled over and snuggled into his chest.

“Feeding the beast in me.”

Her eyes opened, and she squinted up at him. She softly asked him, “You’re not a beast, you know that, right?”

“I am, in a way. I pretty much proved that yesterday.”

She sighed and lay her head back down. “I’m genuinely sorry about yesterday, Toby. I wish I could go back in time and change what happened. I want you to know…”

Nein. Baby, listen to me,” he said as he flipped over. Then, as he leaned over her, he said, “That day at the dealership, when you were fighting that rogue vampire. I know something was different about you. I never thought though that we would be here, that you would be meine Geliebte. I also know that as much as I love you, things will not always be perfect. I am, for the most part, a quiet man who would rather listen than talk, but when angered…”

“You are angry!”

Ja, as are most vampires. Your Mutter pushed my buttons, and I lost all sight of being reasonable. Kendra, if I had not been angry, I would never have had a problem with you talking to him. It might even have been interesting to hear what he had to say, and I know you want answers. You deserve those answers. At that moment though, I couldn’t see past my need for you.”

“As your beloved, I need to understand that Toby, all the fault is not yours,” she whispered as she lay her hand on his cheek. “I should have looked at you, really looked at you and realized how close to the edge you were and done as you asked. That is what a good beloved would do.”

“You are a good Geliebte, Kendra. As we learn of each other, we will be even better together, and for each other.”

Laying back down, he pulled her almost on top of him and gave a content sigh. Then he chuckled a bit.

“What is so funny, angel?”

Picking up the hand that had been rubbing circles on his chest, he kissed the back of it. “I was remembering my first thought when I heard the fighting. It was, why would someone fight in a car lot, that’s what alleys are for. My next thought was how beautiful you were and how good you smelled,” he told her. “Although, I believe I told you that.”

“I do remember you telling me I smelled like gardenias.”

“I was so confused by the feelings I had for you when you ran off into the night. Nevertheless, one thought continued to swirl in my mind over, and over.”

She propped up on her elbow and leaned over him. “Oh, and what was that thought?”

He winked. “That I, Tobias Vogel, a vampire, had been kissed by a hunter”

“Mm… well, the first time was good, so let me do it again.”

So, that’s just what she did.

THE END!
