Chapter 28 - Surprises

The morning light shone through the curtains and woke me up early. I groaned and rubbed my face when the smell hit me hard, green apple, lemon, vanilla, and rosewood.

I think I’m gonna barf and hurried out of bed as gracefully as a refrigerator and into the bathroom. I locked the door and then nearly missed the commode when I started heaving, a lot.

“Olivia?” Jameson gently knocked on the door. “Are you ok?”

I didn’t answer, instead, I hurled again. “We’re coming in.” Liam started wiggling the door handle.

“No! Stay away!” I managed to get out between heaves. Why was I feeling so odd lately?

“Little wolf! Let us help.” Liam pounded on the door.

I heard the two argue before Jameson said: “What can we do?”

I wiped the sweat off my forehead that had built up and stood up on shaky legs to wash my mouth out. “I just don’t feel good. I’ll go and see the Doc in a few, just go about your day.”

Liam mumbled and then wiggled the handle again. “Shit. Are you sure?”

“Yes, yes. I’ll see you later.” I heard their footsteps receding and I let out a breath I didn’t know I held. There was a growing suspicion inside me that knew what was wrong. I blocked my mind so the twins couldn’t listen in to my internal ranting.

I went through the symptoms with Lumen. “Tender breasts.”

“Check,” Lumen replied.

“Sensitive to smells.”

“Check.”

“Tired all the time.”

“Check.”

“Constantly horny, moody, and weird cravings.” I thought back to the peanut butter and pickle sandwich I had late last night. I hate pickles.

“Check, check, check! We’re having a pup... or three!” Lumen jumped around in excitement.

“Let’s us check with the Doc first.” I dressed and headed to the clinic, skipping breakfast since I couldn’t keep it down anymore.

I walked in to find the reception empty and eerily quiet. “Hello?”

A loud thud came from the reception desk and the secretary popped her head up while rubbing it. “Oh, Luna. You scared me there. What can I help you with?”

“I need to see the Doctor, is she in?”

“Oh, yes. I’ll let her know you’re here. It’s nothing serious I hope.” She inquired like the gossip she’s known to be.

“Not at all, just checking on the health of our pack members.” Which wasn’t a lie, I am a member of the pack and so are these pups.

The Doc came out with Alpha Darren on her side. They were laughing and completely obvious to us watching them. I cleared my throat and the Doctor’s easy-going stature instantly became rigid.

The Doc wasn’t known for her bedside manner but ever since my miscarriage, she had been nervous around me which only got worse when I accepted the Luna position.

“Luna? Is everything alright?” She tried to ask confidently but her eyes betrayed her.

“Alpha Darren, may I steal the good Doctor for a moment?” Alpha Darren nodded, patted my arm gently, and left us alone.

The doctor led me to an examination room and motioned for me to sit at the exam table. “How may I help you?”

“I would like an ultrasound.”

“Are you...” She gulped. “Pregnant?”

I sighed and grabbed her hand. “Doc, you have nothing to worry about. What happened before was not your fault, I don’t blame you. And yes, I think I am.”

“Thank you for saying that but regardless I could’ve handled it better.” She reached for the gel, squirted it in my exposed belly, and then applied the wand. She moved it around some and then let me see the monitor. “Congratulations, Luna.”

Three small, well, blobs were on the screen. Clear as day. Three pups, the twins will be so excited. I teared up from happiness and thanked the moon goddess for blessing us. Just a few months ago I would never have guessed I would be here today. Mated to the twins, Luna of the White Oak pack and about to have three Alpha pups.

The Doc went over a treatment plan since having triplets was considered a high-risk pregnancy and schedule a meeting to discuss a birthing plan. I left the clinic overjoyed and wanted to find the twins to tell them the news.

Lumen purred. “Honos and Ani will be so happy!”

“I know, so will the twins.”

I mind linked the twins. “Where are you?” A few moments passed without a reply and I was getting frustrated. At least now I know why I’ve been so moody.

“The clearing behind the packhouse.” Liam linked me back.

Jameson opened up his connection and added: “We have a surprise for you, hurry.”

“I bet my surprise is bigger.” I closed the mind link and hurried to the clearing.

As pups, we spent hours, days even there chasing each other, playing tag, capture the flag, and all sorts of games. We learned to fight and work as a team and ultimately it’s where we fell in love. I wondered what they were doing there.

I walked through the trees and stepped into the clearing to find a massive log house with a wrap-around porch. Flower beds adorned the perimeter, berry bushes and fruit trees were planted among them and a tire swing hung from a tree. How had I not noticed this place before?

Three rocking chairs rested on the porch, angled towards the swing. The front door stood open and I climbed the steps to reach it. I called out but no one answered so I continued to explore the house.

It had an open floor plan with cream-colored walls, floor-to-ceiling windows, and an island in the kitchen big enough to fit an entire family. The dark kitchen cabinets contrast nicely against the light-colored walls while the white countertop completed the look.

The entire first floor could be seen from the entrance and right in front of me were stairs leading to the second floor. I looked inside three decent-sized bedrooms each with an adjoining bathroom and then at the end of the hall were a huge master bedroom and bathroom. The bed could easily fit all three of us and then some. The same could be said about the shower and tub and I’m not even going to talk about the walk-in closet which was fully stocked.

I was lost in taking the place in when someone cleared their throat behind me. I swiveled around in the ball of my feet and smiled.

“What do you think?” Jameson stood a few steps inside the room with his hands in his pockets.

“I love it.” I clasped my hands together like a giddy school girl. “How did you...”

Liam was leaning against the door frame with a smirk. “We built it ourselves while you were gone, hoping that one day we would share it with you. We remember how you described your dream house and tried to create it for you.”

I started crying and the twins looked concerned. “Thank you.” I waved my hand in front of my hand. “Don’t mind me, I’m just so happy.”

“Little wolf, it’s just a house.” Liam chuckled and then embraced me.

I reached out for Jameson and pulled him in, letting him hold me like his brother was. I wanted to be close to them when I told them the news. Close enough that I could feel their reaction.

“So... you know how I have been, off, lately?” They both nodded, not daring to explain how my mood had been foul. “Well, as it turns out we will be filling this house up sooner than you thought.”

“Are you sure?” Jameson confirmed and I nodded excitedly with a grin. He picked me up and spun me around. “I’m gonna be a dad!

He let me down and then Liam hugged me tightly, kissed me on the lips, and then looked me in the eyes. “Thank you!”

“What for?”

“For giving us a second chance, for making us the happiest Alphas around. For gifting us with a pup.”

I shook my head and held up three fingers. “Not A pup, three.”
