A Christmas Kiss

Chapter 18

I swallowed hard as the cold chill settled nicely against my burning cheeks.

Kissing him was an imagine which occupied my mind a few times, and the kiss we just had, exceeded anything my mind could dream.

“Jax---that was.”

He smiled. “Everything.” He closed his eyes, pressed his lips on mine only briefly before pulling away. “I could get used to this.”

“Get used to what?”

“Kissing you.”

“Please don’t hurt me,” I blurted. My expression had changed when Layton and Ezra came to mind, and what those two assholes had done to me. I knew Jax wasn’t like that, but going through what I did, I couldn’t help but feel guarded.

“I wouldn’t dream of hurting you.”

Being Aussie, I knew it meant eventually he would have to go back there. I hoped he would figure out a way to stay, because I couldn’t imagine being without him. Not after a kiss like that.

It’s as though he heard my deepest worries. “I don’t plan on leaving, Beth.”

“Good. I don’t think I’d handle it well if you did.”

“Neither would I.”

We settled into the chair as he wrapped his arm around me once more, pulling me close to kiss the top of my head. My eyes closed as I thought of everything I had been through the past year. I couldn’t help but wonder if everything happened for a reason---to lead me to the moment with Jax.

“So, do you want to see the bar I’m opening up?”

I nodded excitedly. “Yes! Will we be allowed in?”

“Of course. I brought my keys just in case you wanted to have a look. It’s actually not far from here. We could walk the way.”

“I’m up for it.”

“Great. I want to stay here a little longer if that’s alright?”

My attention shifted back to the magnificent Christmas tree. “Yeah, that’s absolutely fine.”

“Just watch your step,” Jax said as we were about to walk into the site. “There’s still so much which needs to be done, and it’s a fucking mess.”

“That’s okay. I’m excited to see it.”

We moved inside, and the first thing I noticed was how large the space was. Jax was right, there was still so much to be done, but I could definitely see this place as being popular.

“We’re going to have neon lights on the bar over there.” He pointed towards the end of the room. “There’s two VIP rooms and VIP sections people can hire. The restaurant is there during the day. We may even open for breakfast at some point, but that depends on how the bar goes. We’ve got a few Karaoke rooms, and couple of pool tables and the massive dance floor in the middle.” Jax scratched the back of his neck. “We’re also thinking of putting in a stripper pole, but not sure we want to go down that road just yet.”

I smiled. “Stripper pole, huh? Which means you would need to hire some strippers.”

Jax blushed. “Yeah, we might. It’s undecided at this stage.” I couldn’t help but smile at how his voice trembled with his nerves. “Just so you know---I’d never...”

“Never what?”

“Cheat on you. If that’s what you’re worried about.”

I shook my head. “I know. I don’t know what it is, but I feel as though I can trust you.”

He leaned in and pressed his lips against mine. “Good,” Jax replied. “I mean---if you ever wanted to use that pole for you know---a private show. I wouldn’t object or anything.”

I playfully slapped his arm. “I bet you wouldn’t.”

He chuckled. “Come on. I’ll show you the rest of the joint.”

Jax took me around the rest of the bar. I was quite impressed how much work had gone into the place, and how much still needed to be done. When he finished the tour, we caught a cab to a restaurant, then made our way back to my parents’ place.

“Do you have to go?” Jax asked when he walked me to my car.

I turned around to face him and leaned against the door. The truth was, I didn’t want to leave as I would much rather have spent time with him

“I wasn’t planning on staying---.”

Jax stepped closer and held my waist, locking his mesmerising eyes with my own. “Stay with me, Beth. I mean---we don’t have to do anything.” He paused for a moment. “Well, fuck. I’m not gonna lie. I’m probably gonna be kissing you the whole night.”

I couldn’t help but smile as he leaned in and pressed his lips softly against my neck. “Please,” he whispered. Planting another on my cheek. “Stay.” And another on my forehead. “With.” The next kiss was directly on my lips. “Me.”

He cupped my face and deepened the kiss, while my arms automatically secured around him. It felt more intense, and heated. My body awoken again.

Jax quickly pulled away from me. “Shit. Sorry.”

“Why are you apologizing for?”

“I don’t want you to think I’m pushing you to do anything you don’t want to.”

Fuck. He’s so damn sweet.

“’I’m not going to have sex with you until I’m ready.”

I held off on sleeping with Ezra because I didn’t allow myself to fully trust him. With Jax, it was different. I wasn’t sure how long I’d be able to resist him for.

“So, stay with me tonight,” Jax said. “Your mum knows we already slept together.”

I couldn’t help but chuckle. “I’ll stay with you, Jax. Not ready to say goodnight just yet.”

We spent the night in his room, and true to his word the only thing we did was kiss.

“Morning, beautiful.”

My eyes fluttered open at the sound of Jax’s sexy Aussie accent.

“At least I remember getting in bed with you the night before.”

Jax laughed. “It would break my heart if you forgot.” I smiled at him. “You’re so damn beautiful.”

I blushed when he leaned in and pressed his lips against mine, which was still sensitive from all the kissing from the night before. It didn’t even phase me that we both had bad morning breath.

“Come on. I’ve got something for you to try at breakfast.”

“Oh, food! Yummy!” I quickly sprung out of bed and got changed into the spare clothes I had in my old room before I went downstairs to meet Jax.

“Your mum said she’ll be back soon. I’m making you toast.”

I glanced on the kitchen island and noticed a small jar with a yellow lid. Being the curious girl I was, I opened it and took a deep whiff, grabbing a tea spoon and dipping it into the jar to take a small amount. My face scrunched and I gagged the moment the dark spread touched my lips. “Fucking balls! What the hell is that?”

Jax turned around and laughed hysterically. “That was supposed to be your breakfast.”

“You were about to feed me this?”

“It’s okay, baby. Vegemite is delicious if you know the right way to eat it. You can’t do what you just did. There’s an Aussie way which you have yet to master.”

He called me baby!

“I’ll give you one chance to win me over with this.”

Jax grabbed the toast before placing them onto a flat plate. He then used a knife and smeared a good amount of butter onto each toast, and another knife to spread the smallest amount of Vegemite after.

We both sat down with a plate in front of each of us, and I glanced at it with a cautious expression before taking a bite out of my toast.

“What the fuck?” My attention shifted to Jax, who managed to win me over again. “You’re right. I can’t believe you’re right about this.”

“Get used to it, gorgeous. I have something else for you to try after.”

As soon as I finished my breakfast, Jax stood and made us both a hot cup of tea with a packet of what looked to be chocolate biscuits.

“What are these?”

“They’re called Tim Tams, and they’re a fucking Aussie staple.”

“Is there a way to eat those?”

He smiled. “Yeah. You’re gonna fucking lovei it.” Jax opened the packet and took out a biscuit before he bit a small amount off one corner and again on the opposite side. “So, after you bite each end, you place it in the tea and pretty much suck it up.”

I watched and smiled, then took a bite out of my own biscuit before sucking up the tea. Immediately, I could taste the chocolate with the hot liquid, then felt it melt on my tongue.

“That’s crazy good! I think I’ll love Australia if this is what they have to offer.”

“Told you. Tim Tam Slams are the best.”

It was Christmas Eve.

Beth and I had just spent the past hour sledding with her parents and my folks. It had been hysterical for her watching me do something I’d never done before.

“I can’t believe how much fun this has been,” I smiled.

“I know. I’m glad I’m the one who taught you.”

“Is taught the right word?” I muttered, stretching my lips. “I mean standing there and laughing at my lame ass does nothing for me and my learning experience.”

She couldn’t help but chuckle. “Sorry. You’re adorable when you speed and tumble.”

“I’m glad I amuse you.”

“You two better get ready,” Beth’s mom cut in. “We’ve got Christmas carolling to go to.”

“Okay, Mom.”

We packed our equipment and made our way to the incredible local church, where the outside area was set up with rows of chairs, and a large white screen projector. Christmas trees were lit up on stage with twinkling lights, and dusted with natural snow.

I sat down and Beth took her spot next to me, while our parents were beside her. She smiled the moment I grabbed her hand and squeezed gently.

Beth was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen in my entire life, and I was surprised how strong my feelings for her were after only knowing Beth for a short couple of months. I could see myself falling for her. Hard and fast.

She was different than any other girl I’d been with, and she was perfect. I adored how passionate she was about Christmas and I still couldn’t believe that anyone would even dare to hurt such a beautiful girl. But I was selfish. If Ezra weren’t an ass, she would probably still be with him, and I’d be a few seats over watching him hold her hand instead of me.

And that would kill me.

I knew one day I would wake up and realize I was in love with her, and she would be the girl I’d want to marry. If she felt even a fraction of what I did, I knew she’d say yes.

The voices of the carollers singing Silent Night had pulled me from my thoughts.

Beth was smiling, and I watched as her lips moved before I heard her sweet voice joining the crowd.

Then something truly magnificent happened.

It began to snow.

We both glanced towards the sky as we watched the white powder falling. My attention sifted to Beth and she was still gazing up. I couldn’t help but admire how beautiful she looked as the powder trickled on her eyelashes.

She finally turned to me and smiled. “Perfect.”

And she was.

The following morning, I woke up tucked in the arms of Jax.

“Merry Christmas,” he whispered as I looked up at his dusty eyes.

“Merry Christmas to you, too.”

“I have something for you,” he said. “Your Christmas present.” Jax beamed as he jumped off the bed and pulled out an envelope from the desk drawer. Climbing back in, I sat up as he handed me the gift.

I was too excited, I almost tore up the envelope in a hurry, nearly ripping the contents inside. After carefully unfolding the paper, my eyes widened, and my jaw dropped to the mattress.

“Look---it doesn’t have to be for now,” Jax said. “Maybe one da you’re ready and you’d like to come with me.”

“It’s a ticket to Australia!”

“There’s no date, so we can even book a year from now. I really just want to take you there and show you the best Aussie has to offer.”

I smiled and blurted out something so cheesy, even hallmark would cringe. “You’re the best Aussie has to offer.”

Jax laughed. “So, will you go back with me in a year’s time?”

“God, I’d love to!”

I wrapped my arms around him tight before quickly pulling away. “Oh, I have your gift, too!” Leaning over to the bedside table, I snatched the small wrapped up box from the drawer and handed it over to Jax. “I hope you like it.”

There was a hint of excitement which flickered in his eyes as he unwrapped my present. His smile faltered before he glanced up at me. “What the hell?” he cursed. “How did you get this?”

“Anastasia works for the company which is setting up the concert. She was able to get these for me discounted and upgraded. When we went shopping you mentioned something about wanting to go, so I knew this would be the perfect gift.”

“It’s fucking more than perfect. It’s incredible.” Jax smiled.

The concert was going to be held in New York City two months after Christmas. A lot of artists wanted to come together to raise money for the bushfires which raged in Australia.

“This means so much to me considering the cause. Thank you so much, Beth. You’re amazing.”

After spending time with our parents, we hung out with Anastasia and Morgan to wish them a Merry Christmas and exchange our gifts. A few hours later, we were back in my apartment.

“So, do I need to beg you to stay the night?” I asked, a smile playful on my lips.

Jax stepped closer towards me, backing me up against my front door. “Tell me to go and I will. As me to stay and I’ll be yours forever,” he whispered, before crashing his lips onto mine.

I wrapped my arms around his neck before I shoved him the house keys to unlock the door. After slamming it shut, Jax led me to my bedroom for the evening.

And that night, we made love for the first time.

It was incredible, and passionate. He took care of me and paid attention to every part of my body which craved for his. Deep down, I knew I was already falling in love with him, and it wouldn’t be long before those three words escaped from my lips.

I stood in the kitchen of my parent’s place with Jax.

Things between us had been nothing short of perfection. I was right. It didn’t take us long to fall in love and we pretty much declared it about a month after our first night together.

Anastasia and Morgan were still together, and seriously adorable.

Layton and Ezra were completely unhappy, and I couldn’t say I wasn’t surprised. Ezra’s parents were in trouble as they were found to be involved in money fraud.

Jax’s restaurant and bar opened a few months after we got together. It was the hottest place around, even without the stripper poles.

“Have you thought of a name for your story, yet?” Jax asked.

I nodded. “I’m calling it A Christmas Kiss.”

“Love it!” he beamed before placing his sweet soft lips on my own.

“I’m so sorry we took so long,” Mom said barging in after finally arriving home. “Your father and I were helping with the Christmas charity drive then we went to the shops, which by the way, I don’t know how you manage to do so close to Christmas.”

I turned to my parents who had their hands filled with bags of groceries.

“That’s okay, Mom,” I replied. “We wanted to visit you because we have some news.”

My mom placed her purchased goods on the kitchen island and glanced between the two of us.

Jax entwined our fingers together while I lifted my free hand to show my parents my new engagement ring.

“Jax proposed to me last night and I said yes!”

I noticed the happiness and excitement in both my parents’ eyes.

Mom’s mouth dropped open before her lips widened to a massive grin, then she let out a couple of surprising words. “Fucking balls!”
