Later that night when the entire complex was quiet. He was rubbing her back slowly. “Are you okay?” he asked softly as he adjusted her weight to more his chest than his shoulder where she had been propped for the past half hour.

“Yeah.” She said as she moved her head to look at his face.

“I’m sorry that I had to hurt you.” He said as he kissed her head.

“But you didn’t really.” She said as she smiled at him. “It kind of had to happen. I think you made up to me with everything else.”

“Lots of waiting and painful nights went into planning that.” He said as he chuckled and then he moved to be eye to eye with her. “Dawn I love you.”

“I know.” She said with a smile. “I love you too. I have been telling you all this time.”

“You have been?” He asked.

“Every time I told you ‘I know’ I have really being telling you that.” She said. “I knew I couldn’t say it outright. I have known since the day of the explosion.”

“How?” he asked.

“Mav you weren’t the hard to read and neither was I.” Dawn said as she kissed him again. “I knew that you had things that prevented you for saying everything to me.”

“god I wanted too.” He said as he just held her closer to him. “Dawn I don’t want to leave you behind now.”

“It is only for a few more months.” Dawn said.

“Come with me.” He said as he kissed her forehead. “You took the test and when we come back you will have your certification. Just come with me.”

“Maverick. I can’t you know that.” She said.

“Why not?” he asked, “What do you have besides a job to hold you here?”

“Alright but.” She said.

“No. No buts. There is nothing to hold you here. There are no reasons. Come to Germany with me.” He said. “I have a small place off post. I want you there with me every day. Every night I want to hold you.”

“Maverick.” She said as she looked at him and then she smiled and nodded. “I guess you have to thank my mother for making me get a passport.”

“I will in a few years maybe.” He said as he chuckled to himself knowing there was no way in hell that he would ever be nice to the woman. He kissed Dawn again still having a hard time believing that she was there in his arms and this wasn’t a dream.

“I guess tomorrow I need to go to the hospital to get everything.” She said.

“We will have everything here still. I will get you everything you need when we get there.” Maverick said with a smile. “I have had the two apartments for this reason.”

“I can’t believe I am going to Germany.” She said and he kissed her again a little harder this time.

“I plan on taking you everywhere.” He said as he continued to kiss her and let his hands roam all over her. “I like this new side of you that I got. I have to say I got the best of your birthday presents.”

“What is that?” she asked as she looked at him.

“You.” He kissed her again and then rolled with her until he was covering her completely.

The next few days were spent making sure she had everything that she would need. He put his car in storage the night before the flight and had everything ready for a taxi in the morning. Every thing was ready. Her new suitcases were packed. The small backpack was also ready.

Her mother called and started to reem into her for leaving her birthday party early. Someone had asked for her later in the evening and her mother had to lie and say she hadn’t been feeling well. Dawn actually laughed.

“Now I need to you to go through the list and write thank you cards for them showing up. Jenny will be doing the same so find her and then she can tell you how to style the cards.” Her mother said and Dawn actually laughed.

“Sorry mom but I can’t.” Dawn said. “I am going to busy for a while.”

“You are never to busy for proper etiquette.” Her mother said with a sigh. “I mean you don’t want to have the people look down at you. How will you go out in public after this if you don’t follow the most basic of things, Dawn?”

“Mom I won’t be here for a while.” Dawn said. “I am leaving tomorrow.”

“Where are you going?” Why didn’t you tell me?” Her mother nearly screamed.

“Like you care.” She said as she pulled the phone away from her ear. “But I am going overseas to Europe.”

“Where in Europe?” Her mother demanded.

“That doesn’t matter.” Dawn said as she watched Maverick start to laugh. “It is a new development but it is what it is. I will be back in a few months.”

“Dawn Newberry you need to know that this is so like you. You never tell us anything and now you are leaving and making more work for me and every one else.” Her mother screamed.

“Bye mom.” Dawn said as she hung up the phone. She looked up to Maverick, “How do you block a number?”

“Dawn.” He said as he walked over to her. He chuckled as he nuzzled into her neck. “Let your family go. We will start our own.”

The two of them got up really early and made sure everything was off in the apartment. He opened the door and then locked the door behind them. He was in his uniform. He looked so good that everyone stopped to look at him and stare at her for being so lucky. He held her hand tight in his as they went through security. This was their life together beginning.
