The next two month flew by. Maverick surprised her every day with something. “Your spoiling me.” Dawn said as she smiled at him when he arrived with the latest gift of some flowers.
“Well then I have a question for you.” Maverick said as he looked at her as she cooked the small dinner for the two of them.
“What?” she asked as he stood in back of her.
“How about you let me spoil you for the rest of my life?” he asked and she turned around and looked to find him holding out a small ring. She looked at him with wide eyes. “Please?”
“Mav.” She said as looked at him. she saw that he was holding his breath waiting for her answer. “Yes.”
He could finally breath again. He took off her first ring that he gave her and replaced it with the ring that she was staring at. “Good.”
“Maverick how did you know?” She asked as she looked at the ring again.
“You told me the story a few times over the past few years. It wasn;t hard to find the set.” He said chuckling. “I mean it was so typical of your mother to do something like that. However it made it easy for me.”
“She really hates me.” Dawn said.
“Well I love you.” He replied as he kissed her. “I hope you don’t what the whole big thing.”
“Why?” she asked laughing.
“Because that will take forever and those people will try to steal your light.” He said, “I would rather have you sooner than that.”
“Well at least we can wait till we get home.” She said as she looked at him. “The rest I don’t care about too much.”
“We will see.” He said. “We only have another month to go.”
Maverick let the subject of their wedding go. Every time she brought up some idea he shrugged it off. She noticed that he was a little distant within a week. She wondered what was going on. He didn’t seem like himself. “Before we go back to the states,” He said as he snuggled with her one night, “I would like to take you to see some of the sights.”
“Like?” She asked.
“Rome.” He said with a laugh. He remembered the project that he had on the city that she had to help him with. They had spent days together working on that so he could pass.
“I think it might be a good thing to see.” Dawn said as she closed her eyes.
“Good.” He said with a grin. “We can go tomorrow.”
“What?” she asked as her eyes opened.
“I have leave for a few days.” He smiled at her and then kissed her like he always did right before they fell asleep in each others arms.
The next day he loaded up a backpack and took her to the train station. She wasn’t looking at the trains when he got her on the one he wanted to go to. He got her on and they settled in their seats. Soon enough they were off and then an hour or two had passed by. He smiled and was back to being himself again. He loved this side of her.
She looked out the window and then back to him. “Maverick I don’t think this is Rome.”
“I know.” He said.
“What is going on?” She asked.
“I wanted to surprise you.” He replied with his grin.
“With Paris?” She asked.
“Just wait.” He said. “This is only half the surprise.”
“Mav?” She asked.
“Trust me.” He said with a deep chuckle.
When they got off the train they made their way through the city and then to one of her favorite things. The Eiffel tower. He saw the tent off to the side where a small ceremony was happening. The person ran up to him and started talking so fast she could barely understand. When they turned and looked at her.
“This is the beauty?” The man asked.
“Yes.” Maverick said.
“Then we shall have her getting ready, no?” the man asked.
“Maverick what is going on?” Dawn asked.
“Surprise.” He said. “I planned this day for you.”
“Mav.” She said.
“Marry me right here.” He said.
“What?” She asked and he laughed.
“Marry me right here in the one place you love possibly more than me.” He replied. She looked at him with wide eyes. “Now go and get ready. The guys were on the train in back of us.”
“Rome?” She asked.
“We will be going there tomorrow. A honeymoon of sorts.” He chuckled. “However tonight you become my wife, unless you don’t want this?”
“Of course I want this.” She said as she looked at him.
“Good.” He said as he watched her be taken away. Now he only hoped she never found out when he started planning this.
Two hours later she was walking towards him as the company he was attached too was sitting in the seats. He was at the front of the tent waiting when he turned around and saw her making her way to him. All eyes were on her. The four piece string quartet was playing the song she had told him she wanted to walk down the aisle too. Every piece of the day was something he had heard her say.
The man who had helped her get ready had let her in a on the secret. Maverick had put himself on the waiting list for this day seven months before when he had come here to see everything and how it was done. She then knew why he had been distinct those weeks. It was he was finalizing everything.
“Dear friends and family.” The priest began.
Soon enough everything was done. They were now man and wife. She was smiling and he was grinning. As they got to sit at the head table, “Here is to seven years.”
“Was the wait worth it?” she asked as she tilted her head.
“I got to hold you while we waited.” He said. “Small gifts given until I could have everything in the world.”
“Well here is to the rest of our lives.” She said with a smile.
“As long as I continue to hold you while we wait. I will be happy.” Maverick said as he leaned over and kissed her.
