Chapter 2

Wednesday morning I was all dressed up for my first interview at Madison Publishing house. I was super excited. I really wanted this job. They have a great reputation for their books. I went out and got myself and a nice skirt suit. The skirt was a short Pencil skirt that was just above the knees. It had a matching coat and I added a white blouse. I left my curly hair down and did some light makeup. I grabbed my bag and had called Willy to get a cab for me. With a smile on my face, I made my way down to the lobby of my building.

I stopped when I saw him. He was in the office talking with the woman I sighed my paperwork with. I only stood there long enough to for him to turn and see me. I took a deep breath and kept walking to the front of my building. Willy opened the door for me and already had a cab waiting. I smiled and thanked him as I got into the cab. I looked back just in time to see Mr. James step outside and then started talking to Willy. I wondered if he came out looking for me?

My interview was with Mr. White, the head of the department. He was an older man, I’d say in his forties maybe, and was a good looking man for his age. We talked for over an hour and we got up as he gave me a small Tour of the company. He showed me where my office would be. We talked for a little while longer and then I headed home. The job sounded very promising, and I was happy with my performance. Willy was still at the door when my cab pulled up. “How did it go?” He asked me as I stood in front of him and removed one of my heels. My feet were killing me.

“I think it went great actually.” We both smiled. I waited to see if Willy had anything to tell me, but when he said nothing I head up to my place. I was tired and didn’t feel like cooking. So I ordered out Chinese food. It was always one of my favorites and the local restaurant’s food was amazing. Plus everything in Chicago delivered. I walked to my refrigerator and pulled out a bottle of red wine. Wine always helped me to relax. I poured myself a glass and turned on the tv to find a good scary movie. I took my coat and heels off as I headed to my bedroom to change. I heard a knock on the door. That couldn’t be my food already. I just ordered it.

I walked back out to the living room and instead of looking through my peephole like a smart person would, I just opened my door. There he stood looking like a model off the cover of Vogue magazine. He was even hotter up close. I had no idea what to say as I just stood there looking at him. He was dressed in a suit without the jacket. His muscles causing his shirt to fit tightly. I could see the hint of a tattoo just under the collar of his dress shirt. His hair was neat and his eyes were just staring me down. I cleared my throat. “Can I help you?” I asked with a small smile on my face.

“I’m sorry I didn’t come sooner. I always like to introduce myself to the new tenants in my building. My mane is Nolan James. How are you liking it here so far?” I took a step back and he watched me.

“Would you like to come in?” I had no idea where that came from, but he nodded at me and walked inside. I closed my door and followed him into the living room. “I’m actually loving it here,” I said as I picked up my glass of wine and walked into the kitchen. “Would you like a glass?” I asked him. He was looking around my apartment and then came into the kitchen with me.

“Sure Juliet,”

“How do you know my name?” I asked as I poured him a glass. He took a sip and I could tell he didn’t care for it.

“I know all my tenant’s names.” Of course, he did. He sat the glass down. “I didn’t mean to disturb you. I just wanted to introduce myself. I’m glad you’re loving it here. I like it here too.”

“I don’t mean to pry or anything, but why are you choosing to live in this building?” He smiled and I almost melted right there in front of him.

“With every new building that I buy, I always move into it for at least the first year of owning it. That way it lets me know my building is running smoothly.” That made sense. “Well Juliet, I won’t keep you any longer. Maybe someday you will come and join me for a real glass of wine.” All I could do was smile. I nodded at him and followed him out.

“Thanks for stopping by Nolan, that was nice of you.” He nodded at me again and headed down the hallway. I closed my door and literally had to catch my own breath. I wondered, if he really went to all his tenant’s doors and introduced himself or not? More questions I would plague Willy with. My food showed up and I watch a scary movie. When the movie was over it was only a little after eight and I was already tired. I need to get back into a workout scene so I could keep my energy levels up. Maybe tomorrow I would see if there was a gym close by. That or not could just start jogging again. Jogging was cheaper.

About three days had gone by and early Saturday morning. I left for my jog. Willy told me I was nuts and he would only be running if he were chased. I laugh and took off. When I got back to my home there was a notecard on the floor inside my apartment. I picked it up and it was from Nolan. I would love it if you joined me tonight for a glass of wine. Meet me here at my place at six if you’re interested. He left the code to the elevator to get to his door. My mouth fell open. I took a deep breath and wondered just what he was up to? He has a fiancé and from what I heard not a very nice one. Okay, so I paced my apartment for a while. Everything inside of me was screaming not to go. Except for my damn head and libido. So here I was having a silent argument with myself.

He has a fiancé, just because he asked you for a glass of wine does not mean he wants to get into your pants, he’s way too attractive for a girl like me. He is just being nice. Ugh, you know I’m going to go damn it. Don’t know why I felt like I had to, but when five showed up. I jumped in the shower and got dressed as if I was going on a date. I must have changed fifteen times. Oh my god, Juliet, it’s just a glass of wine. I decided on a plain skirt with a T-shirt. I didn’t look overdressed and I felt better about that.

I walked over to the elevators. Once inside I pressed his code in and the elevator started to make its descent. Fuck, what the hell was I doing. I started to become extremely nervous. I had no idea what I walking into. The elevator stopped and the doors opened. I was met with a large set of double doors. I took a deep nervous breath and knocked on the doors.

Nolan opened his door and I almost Gasp. He stood there in a pair of jeans and a black tee-shirt. “You came.” He said stepping aside so I could come in. The place was amazing looking. It was so clean it almost looked like no one even lived here. Everything was dark. Black couches, black curtains dark brown hardwood floors. It was beautiful and I really liked the darkness of it. Nolan walked into the kitchen and when he came back out he had two glasses of red wine. He handed one over to me and I followed him to the couch. I took a sip of the red wine. It was the best thing I had ever tasted.

“This is amazing,” I said as I took another sip.

“It should be for five Thousand dollars a bottle.” I almost sip out the wine.

“Are you kidding me?” He laughs a little.

“Not even a little bit.”

“Really Nolan, you didn’t have to share this with me. That’s too much.” He cocked his head at me.

“Tell me about yourself, Juliet?” His eyes looked me up and down. I could see a hint of wonder in them. I started to tell him the truth as to why I was here. I told him why kind of work I was looking for. There really wasn’t more to tell. He sat there and just listened to my every word. “That’s very sad to hear. I’m sorry your parents are assholes.” That made me smile and giggle a little. “You have a beautiful smile.” I blushed immediately.

“Thank you,” I said. I then felt him reach out and he touched my cheek. I back away just a little.

“I’m sorry, but those dimples are hard to resist.” I just looked at him for a moment. I don’t know what came over me, but my big mouth opened, and out it came.

“Don’t you have a fiancé?” The look on his face was hard to read.
