Chapter 13

“You did what?!” Sam screeched at Carla. Several heads turned towards them in the lunchroom. It was Monday and Carla had just finished telling Sam what had happened on Sunday.

“Lower your voice,” Carla hissed. Sam gave her a look like she was stupid.

“That’s what you’re worried about right now? My volume?! When you have a FUCKING DATE WITH YOUR BOSS?!” Carla pinched the bridge of her nose as people began to point and stare. This was useless. She didn’t know how she thought Sam would take this news but she sure didn’t think it would be like this.

“Listen, he’s one year older than me, a Senior in high school so it’s not like I’m the other woman in a marriage or some shit like damn. Give me some credit,“. Sam glared at her before continuing with her rage.

“And who the fuck is Mitch?! THIS NONEXISTENT FUCK WHO I’VE NEVER HAD THE PLEASURE OF KNOWING BESIDES THE OTHER SAD FUCK WHO HELPS YOU CLEAN UP DOG SHIT ON SUNDAY’S IS SUDDENLY TAKING MY BEST FRIEND ON A FUCKING DATE WHICH MEANS YOUR ASS ACTUALLY SPOKE THE WORDS YES??!!!! WHAT THE HELL WAS YOU THINKING? OH RIGHT, YOU FUCKING WEREN’T! YOU TOSSED ASIDE PETER FOR THIS MILKY LOOKING FUCK??!!!” Sam gestured to the photo of Mitch that Carla had on her phone from her first day of work. She frowned looking at it.

“He’s not milky,” she muttered putting her phone back into her pocket. Sam threw her hands into the air. The entire cafeteria was basically listening now.

“NOT MILKY?! THIS NIGGA LOOKS LIKE HE AIN’T EVEN HEARD OF THE MOTHER FUCKING SUN LET ALONE SEEN IT! AND YOU PASSED UP RIDIAN’S SMOKY EYED ANGELICNESS FOR THIS NATZI??? EXPLAIN BITCH BEFORE I PUT YOU IN A HOME!!“. Sam was panting from fury by the time she finished. Carla gulped, real fear sending shivers down her spine.

“I panicked okay! I don’t see a future with Ridian since I could never make the first move and it looks like he never will. I’m afraid to go with Peter since I think it will hurt Ridian to see us everyday and even though I admit he’s sexy I’m afraid he’ll move too fast for me. Mitch just seemed safe and I don’t know, easy!” Carla sighed collapsing into her arms on the table. Sam softened her anger leaving her at the pitiful sight of her friend. The cafeteria regained noise as Sam’s show was over and everyone went back to their meals.

“I’m a horrible person aren’t I?” Carla mumbled from her arm cave. “I deserve no one,“. Sam bit her lip and sighed scooting closer to Carla where she wrapped her arm around her shoulders shaking her gently.

“You are not a horrible person. Just a little rash when you feel backed into a corner I guess,“. Carla lifted her watery eyes to Sam’s.

“You mean that?“. Sam nodded giving her a small smile.

“Maybe Mitch isn’t all that bad,” she said looking physically pained to let the words out. Carla laughed at her immediately tensing when she heard what was unmistakably Peter’s voice.

“Who’s Mitch?” he asked as he sat down. He was followed by Chris who sat next to Sam weaving an arm around her waist. Carla widened her eyes at their open PDA but Sam simply shrugged before taking a fry off his plate and eating it. Ridian was the last to sit down.

“Who’s Mitch?” Peter staring at Carla.

“My boss at the pet shelter I work at on Sundays,” she quickly answered nervously. Peter nodded seemingly content with the answer and turned back to his burger. Carla let out a sigh of relief that quickly turned to a gasp of horror when Sam spoke.

“He’s also the guy she has a date with this Sunday,“. Carla suddenly saw a violent vision of her strangling Sam and had to shake her head a little to come back to the present.

“WHAT?!” all three guys at the table yelled making Carla jump. Why do all my friends have to fucking scream? she thought as she cringed at their intense stares. Both Peter and Ridian looked extremely pissed off while Chris just looked shocked.

Carla sighed before explaining the entire story again to them. For their credit they didn’t interrupt her, all though Peter looked ready to kill when she was done and Ridian wasn’t far off. Chris seemed to get bored and to her disgust started feeding Sam fries.

“That’s not fair!” Peter cried when she was finished. Carla gave him a confused look. “I heard that you’d never had a boyfriend before. I wanted to be the first person to ask you out,“. Carla’s jaw literally dropped when she heard that while Sam only smiled approvingly and Chris looked unfazed. Peter had probably talked to him about that before.

“Go on a date with me this friday,” Peter demanded. Carla froze. Was he serious? Suddenly Ridian cleared his throat and all eyes turned towards him.

“Go on a date with me this saturday,” he stated calmly. Carla’s eyes bugged out of her skull while Sam just looked mildly amused. Chris smiled at his words comments and Peter glared at him. Carla stood up pointing to each boy sputtering for words.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” she finally got out. She pointed at Peter,“Not really surprised you’d say that since you don’t really have shame or tact but you,” she pointed to Ridian ignoring Peter’s offended look. “Mr.Mixed fucking signals wouldn’t make a move if a train was hurtling at him that second is actually making a move, on me?” He smirked at her.

“Are you that happy?” he asked. Carla got another violent vision of strangling him as well.

“Both of you can’t be serious,” she stated slowly shaking her head as she sat back down.

“Why can’t we be?” Peter said. “We both like you. I’m not just going to let this “Mitch” dude drop in and take me from you,“. He jutted a thumb towards Ridian. “And not Mr.Mixed Signal either,” he let out a snort before diving into his food. Ridian glared at him before turning to Carla.

“I hate to admit but I agree with Peter. I do like you. And so I think it’s right for me to fight for you,” he smiled charmingly earning another snort from Peter.

“Okay Prince Charming over here. Don’t get too cocky,“. Ridian opened his mouth to retaliate with an insult of his own when he was cut off by Sam’s excited squeal. They both turned curiously to her. Her eyes were wide with excitement and she was bouncing in her seat. Carla looked at her warily not sure if she could handle any more excitement.

“How about an Elimination Game?” she got blank looks from everyone in return and sighed impatiently. “Like a dating elimination. All of you get a first date with her and after all three she gets to decide one person to eliminate and then the next week she goes on one date with each of the remaining guys and the week after that one date with them again so she can have time to breathe between dates and all and then that following week she makes her decision. What do you guys think?“. Carla was staring at Sam in horror over the idea but both Peter and Ridian seemed to support it.

Even Chris was on board. “Three dates to win the princess’s heart. Seems fair to me,” he shot her a wink and kept eating his burger.

“I’m down,” Peter said.

“Me as well,” Ridian added. Carla raised her hand into the air before looking at each of them like they were crazy.

“Um do I not get a say in this?” she asked in bewilderment as her life was decided for her before her very eyes.

“No you do not,” Sam said. Then she leaned forward and whispered in her ear, “This is a good a choosing method as any. Gives everyone a fair chance yes?“. Carla’s shoulders drooped when she realized Sam was right and Sam sat back in satisfaction at getting her way. And that was how she found herself getting ready for a date friday night with Peter, much to Ridian’s displeasure but they’d flipped a coin so it was fair.

She’d managed to avoid them the entire week as they both seemed to be competing to get on her good side, suddenly completely forward with their feelings and it was throwing Carla off. She also didn’t want to alert Stephanie to their little competition lest she think the toilets needed another scrubbing with Carla’s face as the sponge.

Strangely Carla’s mother seemed to be hibernating and avoiding her. She hadn’t abused let alone spoken to Carla for the whole week. It worried Carla that she was preparing for something big but she took the break from her torture with open arms. It’d given some wounds a chance to heal up including the hot poker. The scab had fallen off to leave a light scar.

She rubbed some aloe in it before pulling up her dark blue highwaisted skinnies. She slipped on a tight fitting red crop top that allowed a sliver of belly to shine through and put on a thin black long sweater that covered her but. One pair of white kedds and a curling iron later and she was ready. She left her hair down and made sure her shirt didn’t ride up to far. Her mother had made sure not to hurt her anywhere underneath her belly button, which worked well in this case.

She sighed contently in the mirror. She didn’t look half bad since her figure was pretty slender from her ice skating days when she was younger. Her doorbell rang and she calmly walked downstairs to open it, since her mother wasn’t home she didn’t have to rush. She opened it smiling shyly and was met with a smirking Peter.

He looked devastatingly hot. Low riding black skinny’s and a fitted navy blue band tee sporting the name “Milky Chance” and a gray beanie sat snugly on his black curls. Carla unconsciously bit her lip as she checked him out.

“Are you going to let me in or are you going to continue eye fucking me?” Peter asked smugly. Carla was too caught up in drinking in his appearance to listen.

“One more minute,” she said to his surprise holding up a finger. Then she ushered him inside taking his coat and hanging it on the coat hook.

“So what are we doing tonight?” she asked him curiously and actually a little excited. He smiled.

“I was thinking I’d cook for you and then maybe some Netflix? Here at your place,“. He gestured to her house and she widened her eyes taking in the small bag that no doubt held cooking ingredients in his hand.

“Actually that sounds perfect,” she said smiling and walking towards the kitchen. This date was exactly like Peter, chill, no pressure and comfortable while being fun. To her surprise she discovered he was actually a fantastic cook since his Aunt was one and he used to spend summers with her in Italy.

He started making fettucini pasta and a garden salad while pouring some sparkling cranberry water in wine glasses for what he mockingly referred to as ‘ambiance’. The meal was delicious and filled with small talk where she learned more about him and his little brother. His mom was a preschool teacher and his father was a civil rights lawyer which Carla thought was awesome.

By the time they moved the date to the living room for Netflix Carla was completely relaxed and having a lot more fun than she’d envisioned. They chose the Carrie Diaries after ten minutes of pleading on Carla’s end and reluctant agreement from Peter. She didn’t see why he complained as he got just as into it as she did by episode two.

It was around episode three Carla fell asleep and when she woke up her head was on his lap and he was stroking her hair. She glanced to the TV and saw to her surprise and amusement the Carrie Diaries were still on. It’s progressed quite a bit from where she last saw it as the main character was now making out with the hot dude at school in a pool.

She turned back to Peter who’d now realized she was awake but was still stroking her hair. I really need to stop falling asleep on people, she thought to herself as she remembered this similar situation happening the last time Peter had been over but it had been Ridian’s lap her head was on.

“Hey Juliet,” he murmured smirking down at her.

“Hey Romeo,” she whispered back stretching slightly, her head moving on his groin. Oops, she thought as she watched his eyes darken in pleasure and something harden behind her head. She bit back a laugh, keeping it in her sparkling eyes instead. Suddenly there eyes locked and silence fell on them.

Carla was sure they both moved at the same time. She arched her back up slightly and Peter moved his head down to hers, halting right above her lips, his breath falling on her face and teasing her.

“Are you sure?” he asked. Carla wrapped her arm’s around his neck tangling her fingers in his hair as response. Peters lips met hers in the next moment. His were a soft and sweet pressure that moved in sink against hers. Tingles shot up and down her spine as she kissed him back. It lost that initial sweetness very quickly.

Peter wrapped his arms around her back and lifted her up so she was sitting on his lap, then wrapped one of her legs around him so that she was straddling him all without breaking contact with her lips. His fingers traveled up the back of her shirt sending pleasure able chills up her skin. She groaned softly kissing him harder.

He bit her bottom lip requesting entrance and she complied, his tongue slipping into her mouth. Carla subconsciously moved her hips back and forth only realizing what she was doing when Peter let out a loud and husky groan of pleasure. She smiled against his lips and continued, a conscious decision.

“Carla,” he groaned out moving his lips to her neck and trailing soft kisses down it to her shoulder. She shivered underneath his touch and returned the favor pushing her hands up and inside his shirt till they were on his abs, tracing her fingers lightly over them. She felt him shake under her touch and soon their lips found each other again.

The push and pull became rhythmic and it continued for another good twenty minutes before they both pulled away breathing hard, their eyes locked on one another.

“Damn,” Carla breathed out staring into Peter’s hazel eyes.

“Thanks,” he said with a smirk still breathing hard himself. Carla glanced over his shoulder to see the clock read 12:00am. He’d been here since 6:00pm.

“That’s enough for tonight buddy. Even Cinderella went home when the clock struck 12,“. She smirked at his slightly saddened expression before sliding off him and walking towards the door, grabbing his coat off the hook and opening the door for him. He walked over hands in his pockets before he took them out to grab his coat.

“Thanks for a great night Juliet,” he said with a sincere smile. Carla returned it with one of her own.

“I should be thanking you Romeo. Bye now,” she whispered impulsively giving him a quick kiss on the cheek that quickly turned to something a little more when he turned his head making their lips meet. He backed her into the doorway kissing her hard before he pulled away licking his bottom lip.

“See you around Carla,” he said with a wink before walking out the door towards his car. Carla shook her head at him but a smile was on her face as she closed her door.

Why do I feel like I’m playing with fire? she thought as she prepared herself for bed. Her last thoughts before sleep were if Ridian could ever top what had happened that night.
