Upside down

Sasha is back from her walk with Leo. She actually enjoyed it a lot. The sound of a truck makes her look up. She sees an old, light turquoise truck coming onto the clearing in front of the packhouse and it parks beside the large freight trucks from Alpha Deborah.

A blonde head of hair steps out of the truck and looks around curiously. She knows that man, she knows him well.

“Brandon?” She asks with surprise in her voice. “Is that you?”

The man swiftly turns around to face her and the surprise in his eyes matches hers.

“Sasha? What are you doing here?” He slams his door shut and gives her an awkward hug. He looks down and fumbles with his fingers. “How is Anthony doing?”

“You should ask my father; I haven’t seen Anthony in a while.” Sasha smiles friendly.

“I’m not going to your father, you know that.” Brandon still avoids her gaze.

Sasha places her hands on his shoulders. “You don’t have to feel guilty, you know that right? We all understand that losing your mate is painful. We all understand that you’re still grieving.”

“I know. I just- I feel like I’m letting Anthony down and your father is blaming me.”

“Just talk to my father, he isn’t as bad as you think. He’s strict, but also compassionate. And he’s here.”

Brandon’s head jolts up and his eyes are wide in surprise. “He’s here?”

Sasha nods. “There’s a lot going on right now. My mate has been abducted.”

“You found your mate? Congratulations.” Brandon smiles, but it doesn’t reach his eyes. His eyes look sad. “Is that why you’re here?”

Sasha nods. “My mate is Damon, your Alpha, I was staying here with him.”

“Damon is your mate? Seriously? God help me.” Brandon teases, then his face turns serious. “I came here to warn him. His father wants him to come home. He wants Damon to take on his duties and start acting as a true Alpha. If he doesn’t come home soon, Richard will come and get him himself to take him home, with or without Damon’s consent. You said he was abducted? By whom? Maybe I can help somehow.”

Sasha gestures to the packhouse, “I’ll bring you to Alpha Fredric, he can tell you everything you need to know.”

Brandon follows her and they walk inside, on the landing upstairs they come across Elianne.

“Brandon? Oh my god,” Elianne hugs him happily, “what are you doing here? How did you get here? How are you doing?”

“Err,” Brandon smiles shyly. “I’m doing fine, I came here with your truck, I hope you don’t mind. I thought I’d bring your truck here, as you left it when you left our pack. And err, I’m here to see your Alpha.”

“Ah,” Elianne takes a step back and she loos at Sasha, “do you know each other?”

Sasha and Brandon both nod. “He is my brother-in-law, or he was until my sister passed away.”

“Ah, okay, I’m sorry for your loss,” Elianne looks pitiful, then a look of realisation flashes her face. “Oh my God, I need to warn Leo. I don’t know what he’ll do when he sees you. The last time you saw each other, you weren’t really the best of friends. I need to warn him and calm him down. Err, the Alpha is in his office.” She points in the direction of Fredric’s office and then moves to walk away.

When Sasha moves towards Fredric’s door, she can hear the voices coming from inside. She hears Fredric through the door; “Alpha Deborah, I understand that you’re anxiously waiting to come into action, I know you want to rip the man’s head off, we all do. But we need to locate Damon first. If we don’t, we may sign his death sentence. We need to think about this thoroughly and in the meantime let my trackers do what they do best, track Damon down. Until we have their information, we have to wait.”

“Eavesdropping?” Sasha swiftly turns around to the voice behind her.

“Roy, err, no- I was just about to knock on the door.” She smiles. “Err, Brandon, this is Roy, Roy this is Brandon, my brother-in-law.”

Roy frowns a second then he smiles, “Nice to meet you.”

“A rogue huh? In the middle of a packhouse, right outside the office of the Alpha. You have some guts to come here.”

“Brandon, don’t. He’s helping us to find my mate.”

“Right. That’s why he looks the same as the guy that made my mate drive off the road. Are you sure he's not just deceiving you?”

Sasha turns to look at Brandon. “What?”

“Yeah, you heard me.” Brandon gives Roy a hostile look.

“I think you may confuse me with my father. We actually look the same, only he looks a bit older.” Roy looks compassionately. “My father is the one who’s evil and behind everything that happened to this pack. I’m just trying to stop him.”

“I don’t trust you.”

Suddenly the door flings open and a snorting Alpha Deborah stomps out. She comes to a halt when she sees the people in front of her. She sniffles, and sniffles, and sniffles again. Then she turns her head slowly towards Roy. “You,” she says, looking intently at his face.

Roy takes a step forward, closer to Alpha Deborah. Sasha looks from one to the other, like a tennis-match. “What’s going on?” She asks.

Alpha Deborah pushes Sasha to the side, now nothing is standing between her and Roy.

A low growl escapes Roy’s throat. “Mine,” he growls, and he closes the distance between them.

“No, mine,” Deborah growls with a smirk, she stands on her tiptoes to reach his face, gives him a light kiss on his lips and then walks past him. “Come with me,” she says quietly, and she drags him by his arm.
