XLVI

Damon smiles when he enters his room. He notices how Sasha stands in front of the mirror, looking at herself from the side. Seeing if her stomach is already visible in the dress she’s wearing.

She looks at him in the mirror. “Hey,” she smiles.

“You look stunning,” Damon smiles back at her and walks over to give her a kiss.

“Where have you been?” She asks.

“Here and there. I first had that test, then I helped with some pack stuff. Nothing special, it was just to keep my mind off things.”

“Hmm,” Sasha nods. “Freshen up and get dressed, honey, otherwise you’ll be late on your own party.”

Damon grins and grabs her waist in a sudden move. He pushes his nose in her hair and takes a deep breath. “I missed you today. Those guys can wait.”

Sasha smiles, but pushes him back, “Get showered, you stink.”

“Coming with me?” Damon reaches out his hand with a grin.

Sasha just shakes her head with a smile. Isn’t he something?

Later they walk up the steps of Fredric’s house, after parking the truck in front of it. Everyone is already there; Fredric, Chris and Jolena with their kids, Nicholas and Alicia with their kids, and Leo and Elianne. Fredric is the first who notices Damon and Sasha and walks over to greet them.

“Hey everyone,” Damon greets, “Who’ll help me with the beer?”

“He was serious?” Leo grins, “you didn’t have to do that, you know.”

“Oh,” Damon grins back, “I don’t mind. Care to help me out?”

Leo nods and follows him to his truck.

“Do you do this often? Come together and eat and drink, and have fun?” Damon asks Leo.

“Lately we’ve been doing this more often, as Nick is here more frequently too. But it’s only a thing we’ve done for a little while now.”

“It’s nice though. You should come together more often. I mean, we should do this more often.” Damon smiles.

“Trouble getting used to us?” Leo grins.

“Something like that.” Damon grins too, taking off the cap of one of the beers and handing one to Leo, then he takes the other and does the same and he takes a sip. He moves over and leans against his truck. “It’s nice though, I meant what I said this morning.”

“We did too,” Leo winks. “It’s nice to have another brother. I was just wondering, between which two brothers do you belong?? Where do you fit in; age-wise I mean.”

“I’m just a bit younger than Chris is. So, I come after Chris and before Nick.” Damon smiles.

“You want to fight Chris for the title of Alpha?”

Damon shakes his head, “no, I have no interest in that.”

“Is there something else you would like to do here? I take you’re going to stay here?”

“Your father, err, Fredric, err, how do I call him, dad?” Damon scratches the back of his neck awkwardly.

Leo laughs loudly. “Call him however you like, he’ll be fine with it.”

“Dad?” Damon frowns awkwardly.

“Sure.” Leo looks at Damon’s face and laughs again. “Geez man, don’t overthink it. Just go with your gut.

“Right, what I wanted to say.” Damon pauses a second still feeling awkward. “Err, dad, err, he still has that cabin waiting for me. I suppose I am going to continue to finish it. Later I may look into opening my own garage. I’ve got quite the knowledge about cars and I like to work on them, though it’s been a while since I’ve worked on one.”

“Well, that sounds cool.” Leo smiles. “Maybe you can teach me a thing or two. You never know when it comes in handy.”

Damon nods, “sure.”

Nick jumps off the porch and comes their way. “Hey guys, what’s taking you so long?”

“We were just talking, but if you think you can do it faster, then be my guest.” Leo smirks.

“What were you guys talking about?”

“We were talking about Damon’s plans for the future.”

“Really?” Nick looks curiously and takes a bottle of beer himself, “and how do you see your future, Mr. Anderson?”

“Err,” Damon blushes.

“Don’t make him uncomfortable Nick. He’s not ready to be called Mr. Anderson yet. Just like he is not ready to call dad ‘dad’.” Leo grins widely.

Damon sighs.

“Don’t tease him yourself then. I was just interested, you’re the one simply pestering him now.”

A little groan slips out of Damon’s mouth as he takes one of the crates with bottles. “Guys, please.”

Nick pats him on his back before taking a crate himself. “It’s fine Damon, we do this all the time. Get used to it.”

Damon shakes his head as he walks to the house. The smell of burning meat hits his nose in waves. He takes the steps to the porch and walks around the house, following the mouthwatering smell.

At the back, he finds the rest of the family. The women chatting away together while preparing cold vegetables and potatoes. His- father; he still has a hard time seeing Fredric as his true father, is turning meat on the grill and the kids are playing a game on the lawn with Christopher.

He drops the crate on the floor, before heading over to his father. “Hey dad,” he pats the man on his back, looking intently at the man’s face to see his reaction.

Fredric turns and his face shows surprise and a lot of happiness. “Hey son, are you enjoying yourself?”

Damon nods. “Yeah, Nick and Leo are quite good at goofing around.”

Fredric laughs when he sees Damon’s awkward face. “You’ll be the target of their teasing for quite a while I’m afraid, boy. You’ll get used to it.”

Damon smiles a little, “I’m sure it’ll be fine. Do you need some help?”

Fredric shakes his head, while he attends to some burgers. “Nah, I’ll be fine. Wait a sec. Chris?” He yells at Chris, who comes instantly walking their way.

“Yes dad, need help?”

“Can you show Damon to his room, please? You all have your own rooms, but it’s Damon’s first time here, can you make him feel at home?”

Chris nods, then smiles at Damon. “Sure dad, no problem. I hope you brought your pyjamas?” Chris makes his way to the house.

When Damon catches up to him, he smiles. “You really think I sleep in pyjamas?”

Chris laughs, “I don’t know, I don’t want to know it either. I sure don’t need pajamas at night. I’m a big boy, brother.”

“Well, so am I,” Damon laughs.

“Do you want me to show you around?”

“Sure, would be nice I suppose.”
