The tension is heavy, it’s palpable. The tension is like a rubber band, pulled to it’s limit and about to snap. Fredric looks around, his stern and dark eyes going over everyone in the room.
Damon’s gaze is locked on Alpha Krane, his dark eyes see every movement he makes.
Fredric sighs before starting to talk. “So, if I understand correctly, Alpha Krane, you’re planning to leave tomorrow and taking Sasha with you. And you Damon, are not willing to let your mate go? Is that right?”
Both men nod.
“Leo, what has gotten you in the middle of all this?” Fredric looks at his youngest son with a frown.
“I saw the Alpha and Sasha arguing. I saw him handling her a bit too brutally to my liking, so I interfered. Damon is my brother, Sasha is his mate, so she’s my sister too, I’ll defend her no matter what.”
Sasha, sitting quietly in a corner, smiles gratefully at him.
“Sasha,” Fredric moves in front of her and looks her straight in the eye. “What do you want? These men have nothing to say, you are the one that decides what happens with you. Don’t worry about anything else, don’t think about the consequences, just tell us what you want.”
Sasha clears her throat and glances quickly at Damon’s tense face. Then she looks at Fredric and his eyes look warm, a bit concerned maybe, but mostly interested in her answer. “Do I need to send everyone out?”
Sasha shakes her head. “No, that’s not necessary. I want to be where Damon is. He is my mate, he is my everything, though we may have started on the wrong foot; I truly feel that there’s already a strong bond between us. Leaving Damon would break my heart; would break his and will only make us both miserable. On top of that, I’ve grown to love him, I love him more than anything. I won’t leave him, never.”
Damon is in front of her in seconds, down on his knees. He looks deeply into her eyes, his eyes full of meaning, full of love, full of devotion to her. “Marry me.” He says lowly. “I know it’s not common for us wolves to marry, but I want to marry you. I want to be yours, in every possible way.”
Sasha widens her eyes, then smiles and tears up. “Of course, I’ll marry you, if that’s what you really want.”
Damon nods, gets up, pulls her flush against his chest and kisses her with fervour. There’s no one else in the world, just him and Sasha. Everything else forgotten. Sasha’s lips part, and Damon immediately deepens the kiss. When they part, he looks at her with eyes full of passion. “I’ll never let you go. You’ll always be mine.” He whispers.
Someone knocks on the door; and one of the warriors comes in. “Yes?” Fredric looks at him questioningly.
“There’s a letter for you, sir.” The warrior looks around the room, until he finds Damon. “For you too, sir.” He walks over and gives them both their letters.
Fredric glances over the paper. “Krane, Leo, Sasha, out. Now.” He turns his head to Damon, who looks back at him. Damon feels the same way Fredric does. This is it; this is the moment of truth. There’s no turning back now. What ever these letters contain, it’ll change their lives.
When everyone has left the office, Fredric looks at him and smiles a little, “Ready?”
Damon nods, then shakes his head, then nods again, and starts to smile too. “Guess I’m nervous, although I think I know the outcome.”
Fredric nods understandingly and starts to open his letter, Damon does the same. They both read their letters in silence and look up at the same time in complete silence.
A smile forms slowly on their faces, the feeling is mutual. “Well,” Fredric clears his throat, “that was expected, right?”
Damon laughs, “it was.”
“Come here, son. It’s official now.”
Damon walks into his father’s spread arms and holds him tightly. “I’ve always known that something was missing. As soon as I saw you, I knew that you were mine without realising it.” Fredric tries to pull away to look Damon in the eyes, but Damon doesn’t let go, and Fredric wraps his arms around him again.
Damon starts to tear up. For the first time in his life, he feels home, he feels loved, he feels desired. This is what he always wanted; this is what he was missing for his whole life. This is where he belongs.
“Are you alright son?”
Damon nods into Fredric’s shoulder, but keeps his face buried there. He feels Fredric’s hand rubbing his head, the other rubbing his shoulder blades. The feeling makes him close his eyes, the comfort of his father engulfing him.
After a few minutes, Damon finally let’s go. He wipes the tears from his eyes and look sat his father. “Sorry for that,” he says with a little smile.
Fredric engulfs him in a hug again. “It’s no problem son, you’ve quite the catching up to do, right?”
Damon nods again against Fredric’s shoulder.
“So, are you going to change your name?”
Damon pulls back to look at Fredric and smiles. “Yeah, I think that’s fitting, right?”
Fredric smiles contentedly, “I think so. Shall we celebrate?”
Damon shakes his head. “I’d like to talk to Richard first. There’s some stuff we need to work out before I want to make it official, is that okay?”
Fredric nods, “I understand. Do you want me to be there with you?”
“I think I better go alone; I need to get the rest of my stuff anyways. Maybe you can keep an eye on Sasha in the meantime, make sure she’s not taken away by her father.”
“I will, you know I will.”
