Playing His Dangerous Game

The night began to fall fast. The sun was setting and the moon was rising. The brightest and largest object in our night sky, the Moon makes Earth a more livable planet by moderating our home planet's wobble on its axis, leading to a relatively stable climate. It also causes tides, creating a rhythm that has guided humans for thousands of years.

I peeked at the window, remembering the beautiful memories I've lived with my parents. The moment when my mom and I took some memorable pictures with the moon when my father read me my favorite storybook as we lay on the grass and watched the moon for hours. Oh, and I can't simply forget the time when I've celebrated my 8th birthday with them under a full moon. A full moon is opposite the sun in its orbit around Earth. Its sunlit side is entirely visible from Earth. The moon appears full to the eye for two to three nights. However, astronomers regard the moon as full at a precisely defined instant, when the moon is exactly 180 degrees opposite the sun in ecliptic longitude.

My mom used to tell me, "Sweetheart, everyone has their flaws including the moon. The moon may look so pretty on the outside but no one knows how it is on the inside. So, don't judge a moon by its moonlight". Every time she advises me, she would mention the moon, the stars, or the beautiful dark blue night sky.

However, not all of the memories are good. Some are bad and the others were worse. I knew that having these disturbing memories wasn't healthy but there was nothing that I could do about it. I find that bad experiences stand out in the memory more than good ones. It certainly was a memory like a sieve.

As I was wandering into my deep thoughts, someone had wrapped their arms around my waist and the feeling just made me felt safe in his arms. I turned around to see who it was. I smiled at the thought that I instantly knew, Xavier. I mean, who else would it be? I noticed how there wasn't a slight gap between us at the moment. No gap.

NO.GAP.

Why was there no gap?!?!!! I think this is the first time that his face was so close to me. I could see his emerald eyes, searching mine for answers as he saw my eyes began to water but I held my tears in because I didn't wanna show any of my weakness towards him. That would just be utterly embarrassing. His hands were then gripping around my waist tighter, pulling me, even more, closer to him. I could feel his abs through the thin fabric he was wearing, the only thing that stood between us. His dark brown hair was in a complete good mess. His right eyebrow rose a bit higher than usual. His earrings had changed into a cooler one, skull-typed earrings.

Oh, crumbs! I'm staring.....and it's rude to stare at someone.

Abort! ABORT!

Look up. No no no!! Look down. Ugghhh! Just look down and a bit side-ish. I was blushing hard and secretly hoped that he couldn't see it on my face. My brain always seemed to not work when I'm nervous but my brain would help me to come up with a rational, logical response whether it's about a facial expression or a conversation.

"Are you coming?" he casually asked.

"W--what?" I gulped.

"To bed" he replied.

Double cheese! I forgot that I had to sleep with this boy who spends his time enjoying himself by having many casual sexual relationships. I wish I could strangle him but I couldn't. No one could even if they wanted to. His charms could captivate everyone.

"I--I'll be t--there in a minute," I said by gulping down a huge amount of saliva I didn't know I had. I sighed in relief when he let me go. I didn't want him to let go but let's say if he didn't, my cheeks would've been redder. "I'm taking the left side. I--I always sleep on that side of the bed as I find it quite comfy. I hope y--you don't m--mind" I said, not looking at him in the eyes as those were the features that had captured my attention from the very beginning.

"Yea, sure! I wasn't gonna pick sides anyway" he said with a shrug. I laughed awkwardly at his response, not knowing what else to say. I needed to change my sweatshirt. But when I was about to step inside the bathroom, Erick zoomed into it before me.

"YA SNOOZE. YA LOSE, HERMANA!" he shouted at me from the inside of the bathroom. This had just pissed me off. Why isn't anything going my way?!?!! Now, where am I supposed to change?! I could ask Xavier to wait outside for a while to let me change but we all know about his stubborn character and it was not helpful at all. I had no other choice but to change......in the closet.

The tiny closet could barely fit anything other than clothes. I hurried to the closet and removed the shirt I was wearing and put on my sweatshirt that was loose, long-sleeved, collarless pullover of soft, absorbent fabric, as cotton jersey, with close-fitting cuffs and a drawstring at the waist, commonly worn during athletic activity for warmth or to induce sweating. The feeling of wearing a sweatshirt was much better than wearing a shirt. As for my hair, I naturally did an uncomplicated messy bun. Believe it or not, my baby hairs were way too much and it looked like I had choppy bangs. After that, I walked straight to bed, where Xavier plopped himself down on the other side of it.

Dash was playing PUBG on his phone while lying on the bed. He kept saying, " I'm gonna get you, don't shoot me or you'll face the consequences, fire in the hole and say goodbye, motherf*cker". I giggled at Xavier's childish attitude but the game is designed to get the adrenaline pumping and give you a rush so, it made sense that he had responded in that way.

As I sat on the bed, I punched my pillow. What? I wanted it to be at least cozy. Once I lay down, I pulled the blanket towards me and turned to my snug side. A side where I don't have to catch sight of his face. In short, my left side. In a jiffy, everything blacked and I was fast asleep. What an exhausting day...

Dash's POV

When I finished playing PUBG, I realized she was sleeping peacefully and beautifully. She reminded me of Aurora who appears in Walt Disney Productions' 16th animated feature film Sleeping Beauty. Her breathing was even but wait a damn second....she---oh my god! SHE TOOK ALL OF THE BLANKET!!! I groaned in annoyance.

As I pulled the blanket to my side, she rolled over with it. Now, she's facing me. The view was breathtaking and she looked ravishing. She wasn't just peaceful, she was too peaceful! However, that peace in her didn't last for long.

"Help! Fire! M-mom!! Dad!! Lizzy...w--where's Lizzy?!!??! LIZZY!" she cried.

She kept murmuring in her sleep and they're not nightmares but memories from an ugly past. I pulled her close and cuddled her as I positioned her into the “sweetheart cradle”. The sweetheart cradle is a cuddle where your partner lies on their back and holds you while your head rests on their chest. It's a comforting form of cuddling that creates feelings of trust and well-being. I love this type of cuddle, especially when Krackles was beside me.

Soon, she stopped. Her worthful tears? Gone. Her creased forehead? Gone. Her frown-shaped lips? Turned into a bewitching smile.

"Good night, mi amor. Dulces sueños, nena" I said before planting a gentle kiss on her dimple. She smiled wider this time and her smile made me a little hard. She's as cute as a koala. Just like that, I let myself pass out on the bed while having her in my arms. I didn't have a single thought of letting her go. It felt like if I did let go, she'll shatter like broken glass. She was too delicate. I'm not sure if I'm attracted to her by love or lust but I can tell that she is different. A good difference.

One, she is feisty and sarcastic.

Two, she hates me, unlike the others.

Three, I fell for her.
