Chapter 15

“Bruno? Why did you leave me?” A sleepy-voiced Veronica asked from the doorway.

Bruno turned to smile at her.

“I woke up and decided I might as well get up,” he patted the seat next to him, and she came to sit down with him.

Yawning, she placed her head on his shoulder and her arm around him. “Oh, okay. I talked to Mom yesterday, and she wants us to come for lunch. Just warning you though, Mom isn’t much of a cook, so she’ll probably just buy takeout from the grocery store.”

“That’s fine,” he murmured as he nuzzled his nose in her hair. “You know I really don’t have to eat anyway. I just do that to keep from looking weird in front of the humans.”

“Mm… yeah…” she sighed.

Bruno glanced down at her to find her eyes closed, and he smiled. She was still tired but had obviously woken up to see him gone. She had gone looking for him because she didn’t want to be in bed alone.

So, setting his glass aside, he wrapped his arms around her and let her sleep. For the moment, he was content to sit staring out the window and just hold her to him.

“You look comfortable there, Bruder.”

Bruno looked up to see Felix standing propped against the door jam, his arms crossed. With a small smile, he replied, “I am.”

Straightening up, Felix walked over to the chair in front of the couch and sat down. “Yet you don’t look as content as you usually do when she’s in your arms. Why?”

Bruno let his head fall back against the back of the couch to stare at the ceiling. “I’m meeting her parents today, and I have no idea what to say to them.”

“You mean, ‘Hello, my name is Bruno Vogel,’ won’t work?” Felix teased.

Bruno brought his head up to frown at his youngest Bruder. “Not that part, dummy. Nein, the part about, “you see your daughter, and I are married, although, you’ll never find a record of it at the courthouse if you go looking for it,” part.”

Felix laughed.

"Ja, laugh all you want Bruder," Bruno grumbled. “I probably won’t be able to come up with a good lie if my life depended on it.”

“Bruno, don’t worry about it. I know for a fact that it’s all taken care of. As far as the human population is concerned you and Veronica are legally married. So, all you have to do is come up with how you ended up that way without telling them.” Felix informed him.

Bruno raised an eyebrow as he asked, “Oh, and how do you know all this?”

“Because I know how our big Bruder Leo likes to stick his nose into our lives. I also know he has the connections to have it done,” Felix said. Then, standing up and walking over to the couch, he held out a piece of paper and added, “Oh, and because he brought this by.”

Looking at the paper Felix had handed him as Felix returned to his seat, he saw it was a marriage certificate from the state of Nevada. “Nevada?”

Felix snickered.

Bruno raised his eyes from the paper to look at him. ”Ja. Apparently, the two of you eloped and were married by Elvis in Los Vegas.”

“By Elvis, seriously Felix? Is that the best story you could come up with?” Bruno asked him, feeling incredulous about the whole thing.

Felix was full-on laughing by now.

Veronica stirred. Sitting up, she rubbed the sleep from her eyes as she asked, “What’s so funny?”

“Apparently, we eloped and got married in Los Vegas. Felix here wants us to say we were married by Elvis,” Bruno grumbled.

Veronica giggled. “Oh, okay.”

"Okay! Okay? That’s all you have to say about it?” Bruno asked as he stared at her in disbelief.

Veronica shrugged as Felix continued to snicker.

“Well, I suppose we could have done worse things. Besides, I like Elvis,” she said as she poked her lip out.

Bruno sat staring at that lip. His craving for her kisses arose up inside like an addiction he couldn’t cure, and if the truth be told, he didn’t want to! He knew his eyes were turning even as his gums ached with the need to taste her. He began to lean toward her, and he heard her breathing pick up along with her heartbeat.

“And that’s my queue to leave. Felix has left the building!” Felix said with a chuckle.

Bruno heard a door slam somewhere. He didn’t care, though, because Veronica’s lips were calling to him. His lips crashed onto hers even as he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her onto his lap. He nipped at her lower lip, and when she opened them, he thrust his tongue inside to taste and explore.

Veronica began to moan and make the sweetest noises. His body was now heated in his need for her. So, he began to kiss along her neck until he found her mark, which he knew was an ultra-sensitive place for her.

“Bruno!” She whimpered. “Please!”

“Please what?” Bruno whispered in her ear as he nipped it.

“Bite me,” she begged.

“You like the feeling my bite gives you, hm?” He asked her as he chuckled slightly. “Well, you know what? I like the way it feels when you bite me too. I think that I would like to be inside your wet sheath when I sink my fangs into your neck.”

She whimpered.

“Mm… do you like that idea, Meine Geliebte?” Bruno asked as he nipped lightly at her neck.

“Yes, yes, please,” she begged then as she stared into his eyes.

So, he picked her up and carried her to their room. Once there, he proceeded to make love to her just as he’d promised.

Veronica smiled as she spotted her mom and dad talking to her sister and her husband in front of the restaurant they were going to eat. Her mom had called thirty minutes before she and Bruno were to be at their house with a plan change. They had decided to meet up at a restaurant.

Pointing them out to Bruno, she said, “There are my parents, Bruno, along with my sister and her husband.”

Bruno nodded and gave her a slight smile.

Walking up to them, Veronica smiled. “Hello, everyone.”

“Well, there’s our baby girl. How’s are you, sweetheart?” Dad asked as she hugged him first, and then her mom.

“I’m doing great, Dad.” Then, stepping back to Bruno’s side, she said, “I want all of you to meet Bruno, the love of my life and...”

“Veronica, is that a wedding ring on your finger? You’re one sneaky girl,” Jade, her sister, exclaimed as she looked at the hand, Veronica had placed on Bruno’s chest.

Mom gasped as she spotted it. “Veronica? What is this?”

“It’s just what it looks like, mom. It’s a wedding ring. Bruno and I are married,” Veronica said as she bit her lip, not quite sure what to say. She and Bruno had talked about it, but...?

“It’s okay, baby, I’ll explain,” Bruno said as he reassuringly squeezed her hand. “I fell in love with your daughter at first sight and knew I wanted to make her mine. After dating a while, I told her of my love, and she found out she felt the same way. So, I whisked her off to Los Vegas and made her legally mine.”

Jade turned to scrutinize Bruno as if she were trying to find a hole in his story.

Veronica bit her lip, this time in worry. She knew when her sister wanted to know something; she wouldn’t let it go until she had her answer.

Jade raised an eyebrow and asked, “So what was your first reaction to my sister that caused you to realize you loved her?”

Bruno grinned, “Oh, that’s easy. It was all because I craved her kisses!”

Jade laughed.

Veronica groaned.

“You craved her kisses?” Jade repeated. “Oh, sister, what was your reply to that?”

“I wondered how he could be craving my kisses when he had never even kissed me,” Veronica told her as she looked at her husband. “So, I asked him.”

Bruno looked down, and their gazes connected at the memory.

“I told her I was about to change that, and I kissed her. I fell in love with her because I craved her kisses. I still do, and I always will,” Bruno whispered.

“Huh! Isn’t that something Mom and Dad? He fell for her because he craves her kisses!” Jade said. Then gave a soft sigh before saying, “How romantic.”

Veronica had to agree. It was romantic, wildly, since Bruno kissed her again right there in front of everyone.
