Chapter 3

Once he was on the fifteenth floor, he paused just outside the elevator doors as the scent he’d smelled earlier hit him once more. This time it was super strong, telling him that whoever it was belonged to was on this floor.

Looking to his left, he saw big double doors. Above them was a sign that read: Camilla Vogel.

So, he turned and looked to the right at another pair of double doors, and above them, it read: Leo Vogel.

He grinned and headed in that direction. Stepping through the doors, he realized the scent was even stronger here, and he finally placed it as lavender.

The room was obviously where Leo’s secretary worked. There was a large desk with a computer and a couple of couches for people to sit and wait on to his right was a door he guessed led to Leo’s office. Behind the desk was a woman who seemed to be lost in her world as she typed away at the computer. She hadn’t noticed him entering, and he took a moment to study what he could see of her.

The woman’s hair was a dark reddish-brown, the red caught the light and shimmering. She really must not get out much because she had a pale complexion with what looked to be a few freckles scattered over her nose. She wore no lipstick, but her lips were soft looking and pink.

Soft… he wondered if they were as soft as they looked? Suddenly, he felt his beast rise within him and he wanted so badly to taste those lips. It was a craving within him to know how they felt and tasted.

The woman looked up, looking startled.

Bruno wondered if he had made a bit of noise.

“Sir, can I help you?” She asked in a husky voice.

Bruno almost groaned as her voice moved over his ears and caused his nerve endings to stand at attention. Just hearing her talk, along with his fascination with her lips, led him to believe she was his Geliebte, beloved. Stepping closer, he rounded her desk.

She moved her chair, so she could turn and watch him. Her dark chocolate brown eyes stared up at him wide and almost fearful.

Taking her hand, he pulled her into the standing position. “What is your name?”

“I want to kiss you, Veronica,” he told her in a husky voice as he stepped even closer.

Her eyes widened even more than they were already, and he heard her breath hitch. “Why?”

“Because I crave your kisses.”

“But… but… you’ve never kissed me!” She exclaimed as red moved up her cheeks.

He smiled as he leaned in, and in her ear, he whispered, “That’s about to change.”

Pulling her close with one hand at the base of her back, the other wrapped in her hair, he kissed her. He moaned as her sweet scent of lavender filled his nose and put him on a high as he’d never felt before. She tasted so good, and her lips were as soft as they looked, maybe more so. Unable to get enough of her, he pulled her closer. He doubted even a sheet of paper would go between them as he tilted her head up and nipped at her lip.

She gave a light gasp, and he slipped his tongue in to taste of her. She tasted of mint and chocolate. It was a delicious combination.

He vaguely heard a throat clear. It took him a moment to pull himself from the fog of desire he was lost in.

“Am I interrupting something, Veronica?” A male voice inquired.

Hissing, Bruno pushed her slightly behind him as he turned. His hiss turned into a grin as he saw who was standing there.

“Leo!” Bruno exclaimed as he moved quickly across the floor to hug his elder Bruder. He knew he probably had sounded like a fangirl, but he couldn’t help it because he had missed Leo so much. “I’ve missed you, Bruder.”

“Ah, Bruno. I have missed you also,” Leo said softly as he returned the hug. “Why didn’t you call and tell me you were coming? We could have done lunch. And why were you molesting my secretary?”

Bruno laughed. “I wanted to surprise you, and I wasn’t molesting her, she is my…?” Bruno stopped, not knowing what to say.

Leo gave him a knowing look. “No need to say more, Bruno. I tell you what, why don’t the two of you take a long lunch. I probably don’t need her the rest of the day anyway since I’ll be leaving here myself in a little bit.”

“Are you sure?” Bruno asked.

Leo nodded. “Veronica, you can have the rest of the day off. I’ll see you in the morning.”

“Um…?” Veronica looked back and forth between the two of them with a puzzled look.

“Go. Trust me, Veronica, it will be the best thing you ever do,” Leo said quietly. He then turned and reentered his office, closing the door softly behind him.

Bruno turned and walked back to Veronica. Smiling at her, he brushed his knuckles along her cheek. “Maybe I should tell you, I’m Leo’s Bruder, Bruno Vogel. I have a lot of things I need to tell you, so I would love it if you would come to lunch with me.”

She still looked confused, but she nodded. Pulling out her bottom desk drawer she pulled out a set of keys and her purse.

Seeing her keys reminded him of his own need for a car. So, he asked, “Where is the best place to buy a car here?”

She smiled, and it took his breath away. It also brought his attention once more to her lips and it took all he could do to keep from kissing her again.

“James Honda, or Chang’s Automotive, I suppose. It all depends on what kind of vehicle you want.”

Stepping out of the office, they headed for the elevator.

“Hmmm… I’ve always been partial to older model Chevys, but I’m not in the mood for a fixer-upper, so…” He looked at her as they stepped into the elevator. “What kind of car do you like?”

“Well, I actually drive a pitiful looking Malibu, but I one day would love to own a Camaro,” she answered as the doors opened on the ground floor.

Bruno grinned.

“I had a Camaro once. My Bruder, Tobias, who is a mechanical whiz, fixed it up for me. Ah, that was one awesome car,” he told her. “So, a Camaro it is. Can we walk, or will we need a ride to get to the dealership?”

“We could do either, I suppose,” she said, “it’s only about three blocks from here.”

He gave a wave to the receptionist from earlier as he and Veronica headed for the door. Pushing open the door, he walked out behind her and asked, “Do you mind a bit of a walk?”

Veronica bit her lip before answering, “I would normally say no, but I’ve not been feeling the best lately. So, I’m not sure I should walk that far.”

He frowned. She was sick, from what? He didn’t want her to be unwell, so he wrapped his arm around her. Pulling his phone out, he quickly dialed the number for the limo service. As he talked, he walked them to a bench in front of the building and made her sit down, saying, “Sit, baby, we’ll wait here for my ride.”

“I have my car, Bruno. We could have taken it.”

The limo pulled up, and the driver got out to hold open the door.

“My ride is here now,” Bruno told her as he helped her up. He helped her inside the limo, telling the driver where he wanted to go.

“Wow, a limo, nice,” she murmured.

Ja. This really isn’t me, but it was my only option since I have no wheels of my own,” he informed her.

“Mm-hm, I see.”

“Veronica, I want to kiss you again.”

She turned to look at him, her eyes wide. Then, for the second time, she asked, “Why?”

“I told you the first time, it’s because I crave them. Now that I’ve had one, I crave them even more,” he whispered before smashing his lips to hers.

He didn’t know how long the kiss lasted, but it was cut short by the intercom crackling.

“Sir, we’re here,” the driver said through the intercom.

Pulling away for her, he took a deep breath to steady himself. “You are addictive, baby.”

She laughed faintly.

The driver opened the door and they stepped out. Glancing around, he immediately saw the car he wanted. So, he told her, “Come on baby, let’s go buy a car.”

Then he took her hand and led her inside.

“Sir, ma’am, can I be of any help?” A young man asked as he walked up.

Ja, you can. The blue Camaro on the lot out there, I want it,” Bruno told him decisively.

The salesman raised an eyebrow as he asked, “Would you like a test drive?”

Nein, I just want to buy it and I’ll be paying cash,” Bruno informed him. He had grabbed what he hoped to be enough before leaving the house that morning. He didn’t plan to come home without a car so, yeah, he had a lot of money on him.

Veronica gave Bruno a stunned look, and he winked at her. “I need a car. I’m not the limo kind of guy.”

The salesman went and got started on the paperwork.
