Chapter 24

“Harley? Come on now. Get into your dress,” Serena says and Harley nods.

She got into a vibrant lilac and silver A-line gown, with a beautiful plunging corset dress which showcases an incredible off-shoulder, tailored collar style neckline with a pleated tulle and organza skirt and feature a two tone shimmer of silver which is reflected onto the lilac for an extra dose of romantic drama. And the skirt was sweeping the floor, making it look beautiful.

Her makeup was done neutral because the dress was shiny enough. Her hair was curled slightly and left open and was set in place with hairspray. She put on her simple diamond ear rings and left her neck plain to accentuate her perfect collar bones.

Lastly, her cathedral length veil was placed on her head and she turned around to look at her family.

“Mummy, you look like a princess!” Charlotte exclaims and Harley laughs.

“You do look like a princess,” Heidi says and Harley smiles. Today was her day. Today was the day she was going to get married to Alex.

She looked at her bridesmaids and they were all dressed in a light pink dress with different neck lines and Serena had a bit of white on her sleeves, marking her as the maid of honor and they all looked beautiful.

“You look so beautiful honey,” David says and Harley smiles and hugs her dad. He looked at his little girl with so much love.

“Let’s get this princess to her prince now so that they can have their happily ever after,” Robyn says and everyone laughs.

Harley walked out of her room and was followed by everyone else. A huge box cover was built so that no one could see the bride on the way to the venue and Harley went inside of it. Her heart was hammering in her chest as she walked closer and closer.

Soon the cover was removed and her bouquet was handed to her. Charlotte and Jake had already entered and did their duties and so did the bridesmaids and the groomsmen. Soon it was time for Harley to walk in.

“Ready honey?” Mike asks and Harley nods, taking a deep breath.

“Dad, don’t cry. You’ll make me cry,” Harley says looking at David.

“It’s just that I remember you being this silly little girl who couldn’t even go anywhere without her dad and now she’s getting married,” he says and Mike smiled, running David’s back.

“Come on now Dave, we already got her late on her first day of school every year and even her graduation, basically all of her important days. We don’t want her to be late for her own wedding now,” Mike says and the trio laugh.

Harley linked her hands with her dads’ who were going to give her away. The doors opened and everyone stood up, to look at the bride. The bridal music started playing and Alex slowly lifted his head from the ground and met Harley’s eyes.

She smiles widely and he was in tears. Everyone gasped looking at how beautiful Harley looked in her wedding dress and they were in awe. She maintained her eye contact with Alex till she reached the podium.

“Here you go son. Make sure you treat her like a diamond,” David says handing Harley’s hand to Alex.

“I will treat her like a rare one,” he says and kissed Harley’s cheek and whispered, ‘You look breathtaking’. As the officiant went through some line, they held hands and kept mouthing compliments to one another.

They exchanged their rings and Harley looked at hers. Her wedding band and her engagement ring fit perfectly and it looked perfect. He tapped on her hand three times, which was a small thing between them which meant ‘I love you’ and she tapped his hand back.

“Do you, Alex William North take Harley Elise Cairns as your lawfully wedded wife in sickness and in health till death does you apart?” he asks and Alex looks at Harley.

“Yes I do,” he says smiling.

“And do you Harley Elise Cairns take Alex William North as your lawfully wedded husband in sickness and in health, till death does you apart?” he asks and Harley smiles widely.

“I do,” she says.

“Then with the power vested in me, I pronounce you man and wife. Alex, you may kiss your bride,” he says and Alex walked up to Harley, grabbed her waist, went for a drop and kissed her as everyone cheered for them.

“Everyone, Mr. and Mrs. North for the very first time!” Andrew says introducing the new married couple and everyone cheers. They walk down the aisle and Harley was taken to a room where she quickly got changed for the reception.

She wore a white dress with 3D embroidered tulle ball gown with a sheer corset and an off the shoulder detail with a long trail. She had red lips now and her hair was pulled into a sleek, low ponytail and was gelled down.

She walked into the party and everyone cheered for them. They had her father-daughter dance with both Mike and David.

“You looked so good you know,” Harley whispers into his ear as they have their first dance together and he laughs, kissing her. The boys were singing a song, ‘I can’t live without you,’ one of their heart swelling songs about being in love.

Her beautiful white dress slowly sweeps across the floor as they slowly dance. ‘This is it’ she told herself because they had made it. She did it, the both of them made it and now she was going to spend the rest of her life with him, just like she wanted.

“What are you smiling at H?” Alex asks as he sweeps her across the floor and she looks into his eyes.

“I’m just thinking about the only thing I need in my life,” she says and he smiles, kissing her and he snuggles into her neck. She looks at the boys and smiles. Harvey gave her a small wave and she turned the other side before she could see a tear trickle down his cheek.

“You are all I never need,” he sings and his voice shakes, for Harvey had loved Harley all along and she never knew it nor will she ever find out. His words were filled with heartbreak, regret and hopelessness because he could do nothing now.

Harvey and the rest of the boys finished their song and as Harvey looked at the new married couple all the happy memories of Harley and himself together sprang into his head, those late nights of song writing and how she’d brush fingertips while playing a tune on the piano and she’d smile that perfect smile that was so warm and inviting every time she smiled his heart would beat fast like a hummingbirds wings.

Harvey couldn’t help but cry even more unknown to him, Noah came behind him and patted him on the back to give the man some comfort and support.

“You know Harvey, you can still tell her. It could help unload your heart a bit,” he says but Harvey just shakes his head.

“I lost her once in this lifetime I don’t think my heart can take losing her a second,” he says and Noah looked up at his friend and could see all the years of pure love he had for Harley in his sea green eyes.

The look of love that was so pure and so passionate it was filled with longing and unsaid words of devotion and adoration but sadly he couldn’t force his best friend to go and confess his love for his other best friend’s now newly wife and bride no matter how much it hurt him to see him suffering every time he had to see the lovely couple.

Harvey watched as Alex twirled Harley across the room without a care in the world and the look of pure happiness. It was then that he decided if fate would be so kind as to give him a second chance. He’ll wait for her in silence vow that if fate isn’t so cruel he’ll one day tell her and maybe than just maybe he will tell her how he loved her long before he knew what it was.

He wiped his tears and walked back in and smiled, trying to hide his hurt. He danced for a while too and he did a very good job at concealing his true feelings.

Soon Harley had to throw the bouquet in the air and Serena caught it, much to everyone’s delight.

“Uncle Harvey?” Charlotte says walking up to Harvey and he bends down.

“Do you think I will find a love like how Mummy loves Papa?” she asks with pure innocence and Harvey nods. This moment made him realize that Harley did love Alex, a lot and she seemed very happy with him. He had just lost his chance with her.

“Yes you will Lottie. You will find someone who will love you just as much as how your Mummy loves your Papa,” Harvey says and Charlotte smiles.

“Will that person treat me like a princess?” she asks and Harvey shakes his head.

“No Lottie, he will treat you like a queen just the way a woman is deserved to be treated,” he says and she nods. They sit there and watch them dance before getting something to eat.

“Mummy and Papa are married!” Charlotte says jumping up and down and Harley laughs.

“Yes they are. Now come on. Eat something,” she says and she nods, eating her food.

“Thank you so much for taking care of her Vey,” she says and Harvey smiles.

“I am her godfather Ley, and come on, don’t thank me,” he says and she smiles.

“You looked so smart today,” she says sipping on her drink.

“I’m not so bad at dressing myself you know? I just prefer wearing the outfits you pick out,” he says and she laughs. She opened her mouth and he fed her some food that he had in his plate. She was starving.

“You looked beautiful today Ley,” he says and she smiles. They chat for a while till she had to go and meet someone. Harvey stayed back and looked at how breathtaking she looked and how happy she was with Alex.

He promised to himself that he would never disrupt their marriage because he didn’t want her to go through the heartbreak he is going through. He would always love her and wish she was with him but that wouldn’t happen so now he just wished moving on was easy.
