Four years later, I’m twenty- six, and Leo and I are living on our own. I’m about to look at the email from John Hopkins University School of Medicine.
“I’m gonna barf.”
Leo rubs my shoulders. “It’ll be okay.”
“What if I don’t get accepted?”
“Then you’ll try again.” Leo rubs my shoulders. “But you’ll get accepted, my love.”
I click the email, and close my eyes. “I can’t look.”
Leo looks over my shoulder, and begins reading.
“Dear Miss Baker. We, are pleased to congratulate you on your acceptance into John Hopkins school of medicine.”
“Yay!” I squeal, tears streaming down my cheeks.
“C’mere.” Leo wraps me into a hug, rubbing my hair. I bury my head into his chest, tears streaming down my cheeks.
“Get dressed. We’re going out to eat. Let’s celebrate.”
“Where are we going?”
“Yay.” I smile, and kiss Leo.
“I’m so proud of you.” He kisses my forehead.
“Thank you, I love you.”
He hugs me, rubbing my shoulders. “I love you too.”
We get dressed, and text my family, telling us they can meet us there if they aren’t doing anything else tonight.
“You look beautiful.” Leo admires my outfit. I chose a black spaghetti strap dress and black strappy sandals.
“Thank you, you look nice too.” He’s wearing a black dress shirt with jeans, and dress shoes. We head over to Shooters, and wait for mom and dad, who sid they were meeting us there.
“Hi, honey!” Mom runs up and hugs me, kissing my cheek. “Congratulations! I’m so proud of you!”
“Thank you.” I hug mom, rubbing her back.
We finish dinner and order dessert.
The waitress comes over, with a dome lid covering my dessert.
“Ooh, a surprise?”
“Yeah.” Mom smiles.
The waiter lifts the dome, and I look at the words written in chocolate syrup.
Will you Marry Me?
Before I know it, I’m bawling.
Leo gets down on one knee, and bends down, smiling up at me.
“For the past six years, I’ve had the pleasure of calling you my beautiful girlfriend.”
Mom rubs my back, and I see she’s crying too.
“Will you marry me, Alexandria?” He asks, looking up at me.
“Yes!” I exclaim, tears streaming down my cheeks.
“I love you so much.” Leo goes to kiss my cheek, and I take his face in my hands, and eagerly kiss his lips.
“We’ve been through so much together. And I’m always going to be by your side.”
Leo shows me a rose gold engagement ring.
“I love you.” Tears stream down my cheeks.
“I love you too.” Leo kisses my forehead. I can tell he’s crying too. “Always, and forever.”
I hold my hand out, and he slips the ring on my finger.
He kisses my hand. “I love you.”
I wrap my arms around his neck, burying my head in his chest. “I love you more.”
I look up at the sky, seeing it’s dark out.
The stars are in a pattern, looking like a heart. Stars always come out when you search for them.
