I slowly opened my eyes and saw that I was in a familiar room. My cabin room. Was it a dream? No, it couldn’t be. “Emma!” I yelled, not really intending to. I saw her fall front-first on the floor.
“What the hell?!”
“How did I end up in here?”
“This is your room…?” she said like it was the most obvious thing in the world. Well, she got that one thing right.
“No!” I snapped at her.
I then glared at her. “Are you still half-asleep?”
“God!” I face-palmed myself, “Just tell me how I got here!”
“I don’t know,” she stood up from the floor then went to the bathroom. “Right after you left, I went to sleep. That’s all I remember,”
“I almost drowned last night,”
“That’s ni—“ she was still half-asleep but after a second, she was widely awake, “You almost what?!”
“I said I almost drowned last night,” I repeated.
“I heard that, you didn’t need to repeat it!” she went out of the bathroom and looked at me.
“You asked,” I mentally shook my head at our awful conversation.
“I want details,” she sat on the foot of my bed and stared at me. Of course I told her. She was my best friend. I started the story right from the very beginning, right after I left this room to think about the things that were needed to be given a thought about.
“You’re really insane,” she rubbed her temples. “I wouldn’t go that far for a bracelet, even if it came from my boyfriend,”
“I told you,” I sighed. “I took it as a challenge, to see if I was going to tell Colton about my feelings or not,”
“Which means you’re not going to tell him now, right?”
“What?” I looked at my hand and saw that the bracelet was gone. I didn’t know why I felt disappointed about it. Maybe I shouldn’t really tell him about my feelings.
“Andrea is such a bitch, who knew that she was still in love with Ace all this time?” I guess she knew of the story because Ace told her. “But who brought you here last night? I bet it’s one of the boys. Pick one. Leo, Leon or Ace?”
“I’ll take Leon,” I told her honestly. “He’ll have the higher chance of me saving me,”
“Why’d you say that?”
“I don’t really know,” I shrugged.
“Leon,” I called to my fake boyfriend. “Where were you last night?”
“Right after I went out of your room, we went straight to our rooms then we went to sleep,” he asked confusingly. “Why?”
“You did not go outside?” Emma asked for me.
“Why would I go outside?” Leon asked. Ace and Leo were making their way towards us. I was going to ask them the same question but I figured out that their answer would be the same as Leon’s since they were roommates and all. “What happened?”
“It’s nothing,” I shrugged. Emma dragged me farther away from them. “It’s obviously not one of them. Do you have any person in mind?”
“Yes,” she sighed. “But I bet yo—“
“It’s not Colton,” I interrupted. Why would it be Colton? He was too busy falling head over heels for Andrea to even have the time for me. “Trust me, it’s not him,”
“You can’t be so sure about that until you ask him about it,”
“I wouldn’t even dare,”
“Where were you last night?” Andrea asked me right after I went out of my room. “I went here last night,”
“It’s none of your business, Andrea,”
“It is my business!” she argued. “And when did you use that tone of voice with me? You never us—“
“Just shut up, okay?!” I yelled, getting more irritated with her. Right after Tucker helped me realize my feelings for Avery, I realized that Andrea meant nothing to me anymore. I remembered our conversation from yesterday.
“What about Andrea? What do you hate about her?” there was a big silence between us after he asked me that question. I tried to think of things of what to hate about Andrea. I found none.
Of course I was lying when I said that.
There was one thing that lingered around my mind when he asked the question. I was just too embarrassed to admit it.
There was indeed one thing I hated about Andrea.
“She’s not Avery,” I whispered to myself. It was a shocking revelation and I hated the very moment of it.
Tucker smiled at me and patted my back, “You finally got your answer, man,”
“I’m talking to you, Colton and you’re spacing out on me!” Andrea’s voice brought me back to reality. “Where were you last night?”
“Answer me first,” I ordered. “Where were you last night? I was going to tell you something,”
“Oh, nothing,” she grinned. “Just confronted Avery Tanner,”
“What did you do?” my body started shaking literally. I wanted to smack Andrea but she’s a girl and it wouldn’t actually do me any good. “Are you the one that caused Avery to almost drown last night?”
“Really?” she asked, surprised. “I didn’t even realize that I was that good to make her drown,”
“Just answer me, Andrea,” I gritted my teeth. “What did you do?” my blood boiled from anger from thinking of what would happen to Avery if I didn’t come right in time to save her. “Answer me?!”
She flinched at my eagerness to know the answer but she regained her composure immediately. “Do you like her?”
“And what if I do?” I didn’t even realize that I snapped at her.
“Not you too!” she pushed me. “And if it makes you feel any sadder, she doesn’t like you! Maybe the reason why she drowned last night was because I threw her bracelet into the water! It was A and A, not C and A, Colton! She doesn’t like you. Why would she wear Ace and Avery for a bracelet?! You’re stupid,”
“You threw the charm bracelet into the water?” my voice cracked.
“We’re over, Andrea,” I glared at her. “I don’t want you near me ever again. Get away from me,”
“Get away from me!” I was angry and she didn’t have a choice but to run away from me. I was even terrified of myself. I felt my body heating up with anger and frustration.
Why would Avery go that far for the bracelet that I gave her? Did she even know I was the one who gave that bracelet to her or did she know that it came from Ace?
I didn’t know but there was one thing I was sure about, the bracelet that I gave her meant something to her.
“Avery!” I yelled. “Avery!”
I made my way into the water. This was the second time she drowned. It was adrenaline rush that I immediately rushed into the water after taking my top off. I swam to her direction, worrying about her safety.
What if I was too late?
I couldn’t be.
She wasn’t appearing on the surface. Why would she even do this in the first place? She couldn’t swim! Was she committing suicide? No. That’s not the Avery I know. She’s strong and just as Tucker said, she’s pretty bad-ass.
I got her then I dragged her to the direction of the sand. I placed her gently on the sand and listened to her heart beat. Her heart was still beating and I couldn’t help but feel relieved after hearing that. I pumped the water out of her chest, pinched her nose and placed my lips on hers to give her some air. I did not want to kiss her like this. I didn’t want to kiss her whilst she was still unconscious.
After performing it again for two more times, water came out from her mouth and I let out the air that I was holding on for a minute.
I knew that she was okay but she was still unconscious. Her left hand was curled to a fist and I uncurled it. Her hand revealed a bracelet.
It was the charm bracelet that I gave to her.
Why wasn’t she wearing it?
I placed the bracelet inside my pocket then carried her back to her cabin room.
“So, you’re telling us that Andrea kind of kicked you then bitch-slapped you last night?” Leo asked. “That’s insane!”
“It’s insane, alright,” Ace added. “You should have fought back,”
“I didn’t want to get in trouble,” I reasoned. “Especially with her,”
I then felt someone pulled my hair from behind. I landed on my back and saw Andrea. “You bitch!” she sat on my stomach and slapped me.
“Hey!” Leon tried to get Andrea away from me but she refused. Everybody was now looking at us. Emma looked like she didn’t know what to do.
“What the hell?!” I yelled but I just earned a slap from her again.
“You already have Ace!” she yelled back then slapped me, her other hand was still pulling my hair. “You get Colton too! That’s completely unfair!”
“That’s it,” I gritted my teeth and changed our positions so I was the one on top of her now. I didn’t know how I did it but I managed even though it was hard to get done. “I wouldn’t tolerate you anymore,” I slapped her harder that she did to me, harder than all her slaps combined together. “You’re a fucking bitch who only cares about herself,” I stood up and kicked her side. “Grow up!”
“What’s happening here?!” a teacher yelled. “You two,” she pointed at the both of us. “Detention once we get back to the academy. And I’ll call your parents right after this. The academy wouldn’t tolerate this kind of behavior,” and she disappeared on us.
“What happened when you said you didn’t want to get in trouble?” Leon asked as he hugged me. I hugged him back. There was one thing terrifying about what the teacher said, and it was calling our parents. One thing came into my mind after that.
