Chapter 9

[Avery’s POV]

“If you want to, I can be your boyfriend to make Colton back off,” said Leon. I stared daggers at him to know if he’s joking, well, according to my senses, he’s not.

“Are you serious?” asked Emma.

“Of course I am,” he said. “After all, it’s not going to be that bad, I mean, Avery’s pretty and … nice,” Leon ran his hand through his brown hair which I found sexy. It’s a dream come true to have a guy like Leon, he’s perfect after all, but I think if I accept his offer, Colton’s going to cancel the bet and I’m pretty sure that raging sex addicts will come to me and you know, rape me. For now, I’m pretty sure Colton’s keeping them stable.

I was a little thankful that they didn’t laugh at me when I told them about the bet Colton and I made. It’s a laughable and an impossible bet after all.

Let’s see, the superior sex addict falling in love? Yup, it’s impossible. And as far as I know, Love is not in the sex addict’s dictionary. “I’m sure that I can still handle the situation right now, Leon,” I told him. “I want to accept your offer but I don’t want to drag you in my problems,”

“Well,” he said. “It’s your choice, but if you somehow changed your mind, my offer is still open,”

I’m in my last class right now, Home Economics. You know what I love about this subject? Everything. I love cooking and the teacher is really great. Her name is Amanda and she’s only twenty-three, she’s really friendly and she has bobbed red hair and bright green eyes. And I just found out that she’s engaged with Mr. Patricks, our biology teacher, who is considered hot for his age.

And I forgot to tell you what I hate about this subject though, well, let’s just see, I hate three things about this class, one is Colton, second one is he’s my cooking partner again, and lastly, he keeps bugging me, he purposely brushes his hand against mine, well, like that’s going to cause some sparks, and he keeps talking to me.

He’s so annoying.

He’s the one who told me about Ms. Amanda, I didn’t ask him about her though, he just blurted it out. I just ignored him and once in a while he’ll look at a girl then wink at her.

I hate his guts.

“So,” Ms. Amanda said. “That ends our class for today,” I was about to stand up and ran away from here but I was out of luck. “Colton and Avery, you two are the cleaners for today,” the teacher smiled at me like she’s planning something. When all the students are gone, Ms. Amanda walked out of the room and left me with Colton.

“So,” he said. “It’s just you and me again, huh?”

“Obviously,” I rolled my eyes. Why am I stuck here with Colton? And why am I partnered up with him? It seems like Ms. Amanda is planning something.

“Are you thinking about Ms. Amanda too?”

“Yes,” I mumbled, “Wait, how’d you know?!”

“I was thinking that same thing too,” he replied. “It’s like she’s planning something,”

“Yeah,” I said. “Let’s start cleaning,” I cursed when I forgot that I have a broken knee. I slammed my hand on the table because it freaking hurts.

“You know what?” said Colton. “You just sit there, I’ll clean,”

“Do you really think I’m going to fall in love with you now?” I asked him with an eyebrow raised. “A simple deed won’t make me fall in love with you, you know,”

“Well, I did not say that you’ll fall in love with me,” he said. “You blurted all that out, so you’re the one who’s falling in love with me, then? I mean, it crossed your mind,” a grin then appeared on his face.

“You wish,” I spat. “I don’t want to be heartbroken again after all,” I whispered that part to myself, thinking about my past.

“I heard that you know,” he said as he started cleaning the room, sweeping the floor. “What happened to you?”

“It’s none of your business,” I shrugged. “It’s not like you’re going to understand anyway,”

“How about this,” he said. “You can ask one question about me and I’ll ask one about you, don’t worry, I will not ask you about your past relationship, so, what’s your question?”

I decided to play along with it. I didn’t want to be damned by silence anyway.

“Why do you hate your brother so much?” I asked. He immediately stopped cleaning and shrugged. I think I hit a sore spot. “I’ll change my question, you don’t need to answer that,” I instantly told him.

“No,” he looked at me. “I’ll tell you. When Ace and I were still in middle school, I have this huge crush on a girl named Andrea,” I tried to hold my laughter. I mean, look at it. Colton has a crush! It’s so funny coming out from him.

“Then…?” I kept my voice straight, not showing any hint of laughter.

“I confessed to her,” he explained while he continued cleaning, “But she told me that she likes my twin brother Ace, she said she’s going to confess to him right away. When that day came, I eavesdropped on their conversation and Ace admitted he’s gay, Andrea cried and I tried to comfort her, but she wouldn’t even let me touch her. I hated my brother ever since, I hated the fact that he’s gay and he broke Andrea’s heart, I would’ve been happy for them if they got together, I would’ve happy to see Andrea happy.”

“And you became a sex addict because of a heart break when you’re in middle school?” I asked him. He nodded and eyed me directly. Silence illuminated the room, after one minute, I was laughing my stomach out.

“I told you my heartbreaking story and you’re laughing?” Colton said. His serious face made me laugh even more.

“I-It’s just,” I laughed. “S-so f-funny to t-think that y-you s-sounded like a child!” I laughed harder this time. If you tried to analyze his situation, you would really think it’s childish. It’s childish for him to be angry with his brother for being gay. He can’t do anything about Ace if he’s gay, that’s his nature after all. I settled down and breathed the air my lungs were missing. “I’m sorry. It’s just so funny to think that you became a sex addict for a simple reason as that. You were still in middle school that day.”

“Hey, it’s a heartbreaking reason!” he pouted.

“Aw,” I said. “You looked cute when you pouted!” I then immediately shut my mouth, realizing what I said.

“Did you just call me cute?” he asked me with a smile on his face, not a grin nor a smirk, it’s a simple smile.

“N-No!” I denied, but he really did look cute when he pouted.

“You’re stuttering,” he mocked.

“Just ask me your question,” I rolled my eyes at him.

“Okay,” he said. “If you think that my story is not heartbreaking enough, give me one then,”

“My mother tried to kill me once,” I blurted out.

“I’m sorry,” for once, he sounded sincere, and I am very happy to hear the sincerity in his voice. “I shouldn’t have asked,”

“Nah,” I said. “It’s okay. My mother never did like me anyway. Ever since my dad died, she abused me like hell. She made me her very own punching bag. I didn’t fight back because she’s still my mother and I still respected her somehow,”

“Need a hug?” he said.

“No,” I said. “You’re just going to take advantage of it,”

“You know me very well,” he smiled, he did lighten up my mood when he said that though, I guess he did say that on purpose to get me off of my mother topic. “Everything’s clean, let’s go,” I stood up and he immediately went beside me, “Here, I’ll help you,” he held my arm and for the first time, I felt a little spark inside me. No. This is impossible.

I want to get out of here now, out of his touch.

“Why is the door closed?” Colton asked me.

“What’s the problem?” I asked him. Now that I mentioned it, the door was open during the whole class. “Shouldn’t a door be closed?”

“The door’s lock is broken,” he reached for the door knob and turned it, “Which means, we can’t get out.”
