I arrived in New York late that night. We all went to my old condo. While my team crashed, I stayed up, staring at the skyline of Manhattan. I was exhausted, but I still couldn't sleep. I decided to call the house to see if anyone was up. I FaceTimed my mom and was able to talk to Madison and see a glimpse of a sleeping Aiden. I wanted to check on my wife too. My mom told me that Blaire wasn't in the mood to talk to me or anyone else. She told me that she wasn't eating again.
The guilt was haunting and cut deep. I knew my behavior wasn't making feel her feel better. I needed to make things right with her soon. After I got off the phone with my mom, I called Blaire, but she didn't pick up. I decided to try again tomorrow and send her some flowers and her favorite snacks. After I sent her gifts, I got in the bed to get some much-needed sleep. Sleep never came. Every time I closed my eyes, images of someone was hurting Blaire clouded my mind. I got up to call my dad to see if he had any leads on who took my daughter and hurt my wife.
"Hey, everything okay?" Dad asked.
"Then why aren't you home with your family?"
"It's complicated and I still have to work," I explained.
"So, what? Your wife needs you and none of that other stuff should matter right now. You are going to lose her again if you don't get your ass home soon," he scolded.
I didn't want to even think about her leaving me again. So, I decided to change the subject.
"Dad, did you find out anything about Maddie's kidnappers?" I asked.
"Not yet. I did get some info on a hacker who heard about the job to hack your company a few months ago. I'm going to meet him in Los Angeles tomorrow. Hopefully, I can get something."
"Good. The moment you find out let me know. I'm going to kill this n*gga, I swear! He put his hand on my wife. He killed my baby," I spat.
"You ain't doing sh!t! I'm going to handle it! You ain't going down the same path I did. It wasn't worth losing my family. You focus on your family and your business, son. I promise you, I'll take care of it. They ain't getting away with hurting my daughter-in-law and granddaughter," he threatened.
"Alright, dad. Just keep me updated and please check on Blaire for me. Mom said she not doing good."
"Get your stubborn butt home soon and she'll be just fine."
"I'll be home in a few days."
"Okay, son. I'll call you once I get anything new. Take care and don't do anything stupid... And check on your sister too."
"I won't. Goodnight."
After I hung up, I finally went to sleep. Well, tried to sleep. I tossed and turned all night. I hated the way I talked to my wife. I looked at my phone it was 6 in the morning. I called Blaire and hoped she'd pick up.
"Hello," she said softly.
"Baby, I'm so sorry about yesterday," I apologized.
"It's okay. I'm the one that should be sorry," she said solemnly.
"No, baby. I should have been more patient with you. You are dealing with a lot. When you're ready to talk, I'll be here to support you. It doesn't matter what it is, nothing will affect the love I have for you."
"I know, but I don't want to talk about that. I just want us to get back to where we were. I miss you. I miss us."
"I miss you too. I'll be home in a few days. I got to go. I love you, baby."
"Okay. I love you too. Bye, Ave," she said with a hint of joy in her voice.
She almost sounded like herself today. For now, I wasn't going to push her to tell me what happened. I didn't want to fight anymore. I wanted us to get back to our normal as much as possible. I wanted her to seek help. If she wasn't going to talk to me, she needed to talk to someone with the skills to help her. I knew all of this was too much for her to handle on her own.
In a much better mood, I got out of bed and went to get ready for my meeting. After getting out of the shower, I shaved. Then I put on my navy suit. I wasn't really looking forward to this meeting. My wife usually handles this. Since we got married she runs the company while I focus more on my music. Blaire is a beast when it comes to business. She always gets her way and business has been really good for us lately. So, I was a bit nervous that she wasn't by my side.
While I tied my tie, I looked over my notes on my tablet. Then I read about this new investment company that was interested in working with us. I wasn't sure if I wanted to get involved, but I was willing to hear what they had to say. I put my tablet down and grabbed my wallet, phone, and messenger bag. I went to the kitchen and found Myles and Kai talking while fixing some breakfast. Andrew was sitting at the dining table looking at his phone, and I sat next to him.
"Good morning, Profit.” Kai smiled.
"Good morning," I said to everyone.
Kai put a plate in front of me and sat across from me. It was egg whites and fruit. She’s been on this health kick and I hated it. I missed my wife’s cooking.
"Your statement will be released as soon as you read over it. You have an appearance at Tao at midnight and Drake will be there too. He wants you to do one song with him at his show tonight. I think you should do it. Your fans are so worried about you and I think seeing you on stage will put them at ease. You should do the song you wrote about Blaire and dedicate it to her and Maddie. Let everyone know that you all are okay," she said.
"Okay, but let me run this by Bee first," I said.
"No problem," she said with her thumb up.
We all ate breakfast. I grabbed my phone to text my wife.
Me: Hey, Bee. Drake wants me to do a song for his show tonight. Are you okay with that?
Blaire: Yes. Have a great performance. When will you be home?
Me: Thanks, baby. Saturday or Sunday. I'll call you. I love you.
Blaire: Okay, Ave. I love you too.
I put my phone back in my pocket. I was happy that she was cool with me performing tonight. I told Kai I'd do the show. She got on the phone and made the needed arrangements.
It was going to be a crazy and busy day. After this meeting, I had to do a rehearsal and soundcheck. Then I had to get ready for the show, perform, and do the club appearance.
I finished my breakfast, then I went to brush my teeth. I went back into the kitchen and saw Drew and Myles getting ready to go. Kai was staying here to handle some business. I knew that meant that she was going to see her man, Hyuk.
We headed to the elevator. On the ride down, I was checking out the statement. It was good. It told everyone that my daughter being kidnapped was the scariest and the worst thing I've ever experience. I was thankful to God that she was returned safely and I was thankful for all the prayers and support from everyone. Also that I would like if everyone respected my privacy while my family and I healed. I purposely omitted her pregnancy. Most people didn't know she was expecting and I wasn't sure if my baby would survive. I never liked anyone in my business anyway. If I could avoid the media being in my business right now I would do almost anything.
I texted Kai that I approved it so she could send it off. I went to the SUV and got in the back. My condo wasn't far from my office. We got there in about 15 minutes. I went through the lobby and greeted a few employees. I went to the private elevator not wanting to be bothered. I went straight to David's office. He was sitting at his desk typing away on his laptop. He looked up and noticed me. He stood up and came over to me and gave me a hug.
"Avery, it's good to see you. How are you doing? And be honest with me," he said.
"Aiden is good. Maddie is okay. She was asleep for most of it, so she seems unaffected. You know Blaire is pregnant. Well, the day Maddie was kidnapped we found out it was twins. Then we lost one of the babies. She's taking it very hard and blaming herself for it. I'm really worried about Blaire. I don't know if she'll get over this. As for me, I'm just tired and worried about my family," I answered honestly.
"Well, I'm here for you. Blaire was already prepared for this meeting several weeks ago. You know how she is. I'm glad she's my boss now. Not too much for me to do anymore.” He smiled. “Well, Misha and I are stepping up for both of you. So, I'll take over for her today. You just sit back and relax.”
I thanked him before we headed to the conference room. The meeting started and it was over before I knew it. Honestly, my mind was so gone I have no clue what it was about. After the investors finally left, I headed back to my vehicle with Drew. He got in and started driving us back to my condo. Myles gave me my setlist. Since I was only doing one song, I didn't see the point of looking at it. I did notice that soundcheck was at 3 pm, which meant I had almost three hours to rest.
We went back upstairs to my place. Kai was sitting on the couch on her phone talking to her fiancé I assumed. She was too happy for it to be a business call. I went straight to my room and changed out of my suit. I put on some sweats and a t-shirt. I got in bed and crashed.
My alarm went off and I got up to go take a quick shower. I got dressed and headed to the kitchen. My stomach was rumbling. I was happy to see that Myles ordered my favorite Italian food. I dug in and checked my phone as I ate.
Blaire sent me a text, saying that she hoped I had a good show and she couldn't wait until I got home. I smiled at that. It felt like us again. Whenever I was gone we're constantly on the phone. I miss that and all the dirty talk and phone sex. If I would have known that Blaire was as freaky as she is I'd have married her the first day I saw her. She definitely keeps me on my toes. I was hoping we'd get back to that soon.
I finished eating and put my plate into the dishwasher. I was ready to get this soundcheck done. I told them I was ready. Myles got my outfits for my performance and the club. Andrew and I waited on Kai to get her things. We all headed to the car together. Andrew drove us to Madison Square Garden.
I ended up deciding on doing two songs; one with Drake and one by myself. New York is my city so I had to represent. Soundcheck was cool and rehearsal went smoothly, but it was weird not having my band or DJ with me. Drake's crew was really good. It felt good to be up on the stage again even just to rehearse. It’s been a while. I've been focusing on my family that I put the music aside for a minute. I'm ready to get back to performing and touring again, but I'm going to wait until my family is good first.
