Chapter 22: Coming Together
The next day Liam told me it was time that we told everyone that we were pregnant and getting married. To say that I was nervous, was an understatement.
I was shaking as I ran a hair brush through my hair and got dressed in the bathroom. As I walked back into the bedroom I grinned seeing Liam struggle to slip into his black button down shirt.
"You know who really needs a shirt." He grumbled, tossing the shirt onto the bed.
I covered my mouth in an attempt to stifle a chuckle.
"Oh you think this is funny huh?" Liam grinned mischievously at me. "You just wait till I have two arms again." He winked.
"Let me help you." I grinned widely, grabbing the shirt off the bed.
I helped slide his arms into the short sleeve and couldn't help admiring his physique. As I buttoned the front of his shirt he wrapped his good arm around my waist. Concern was barely masked in his expression as I met his gaze.
"How are you feeling today?" He asked, studying my expression.
"I'm okay. Just trying to believe yesterday actually happened." I shrugged.
It was weird; part of me wanted to forget yesterday had happened, and part of me wanted to replay it again and again if only so I could believe he was really gone.
Liam nodded and kissed my forehead.
He looked nervously at me for a minute before speaking in a low voice. "Are you sure this is what you want?"
I frowned up at him confused.
"I mean I know between shock and adrenaline you weren't in the best mindset to make decisions. It probably wasn't the best time to ask such a important question." He continued not meeting my gaze.
I chuckled, "Is that what you are worried about?"
Liam ran his hand through his hair awkwardly and I chuckled again.
I stood on my top toes pulling his head down with my right hand and kissing him firmly.
"I love you and I do want to marry you." I smiled up at him.
If someone had told me a year ago I would be here, in love and agreeing to marry the Reaper King. I would have thought they were insane.
Now, however, I couldn't imagine anything better. I knew what I wanted and I finally had it.
"I love you Aviana Grace Johnson." Liam beamed down at me.
"I love you Liam Drake Bly." I blushed up at him.
"Then let's do this." He said after kissing my forehead.
I nodded in return, as nervousness flooded my chest again.
Liam called all of the members into the living room.
James sat on one side of the couch while Adam and Scarlet sat on the other end holding hands. Ian laid sideways across a recliner to their right. Natalie sat in another chair on the opposite side of the couch and Ash leaned forward against the back of her chair, remarkably close to the group. Mason stood against the far wall shooting daggers at Ash and Natalie.
I knew Natalie had broken it off with him, but he had told her that she couldn't do that. Clearly though she could.
I did not, however, know when Ash and Natalie had grown so close. She had said before that he was helping her out till she found a replacement for Jessica, apparently he was actually really good with computers.
The way they were positioned now showed much more intimacy than just coworkers.
Mason obviously thought so too. He stalked over to them.
"Back away from my girl, dude." Mason snapped.
Ash raised one eyebrow and frowned at Mason.
If it came to a fight I was honestly unsure how it might turn out. Mason was shorter but looked bulkier, and had an attitude that made me think he knew what he was doing.
Ash though taller had a more calm gentle demeanor. He was thinner and had always gone through every movement as if it were calculated and planned.
It was hard to imagine him in a fight. I knew he was a sniper, but even that distanced him from the fighting most of the time, right?
"I'm getting irritated at you treating my sister like a piece of property." James mumbled glaring at the book he had open in his lap.
Mason rolled his eyes returning his attention to Asher as he seemed to size him up.
Liam sighed, but he wore an amused smirk as if he had been waiting for this and could hardly contain his joy.
If I had wondered whether he would intervene before, now I knew he wouldn't. The look on his face said he liked how this was going to end up.
"I wouldn't do that Mason." Liam said calmly.
"I said back off." Mason said, pushing at one of Asher's shoulders.
Ash for his part just sighed, clearly annoyed.
"Mason, I said we were over." Natalie said in her ever calm voice, as she stood stepping between the men.
Ash frowned not liking this new arrangement, but only stepped closer to her laying his hand on the small of her back supportively.
"And I said I won't let you do that!" Mason shouted getting in her face and jabbing his finger at her.
As Natalie flinched I felt Liam stiffen next to me. I wondered if he recognized the reaction the way I did.
Before I could blink, Ash had reacted.
Anger that he had not shown, when Mason's rage was focused on him, was now evident on his face. Making the normally calm, harmless man seem down right deadly. He sidestepped Natlie effortlessly and decked Mason square in the nose with a loud satisfying crunch.
"Don't you ever talk to her like that." Contradicting his actions and expression, Ash's voice was calm showing a sense of control.
Absently I wondered, if he could do that while still under control, what would happen if he ever lost that control.
I shivered scooting closer to Liam as Mason stormed out of the room cursing loudly. He passed by Jay who was coming in.
Jay watched him go frowning.
"Broken nose, it'll be easier to fix when it stops bleeding anyway. He's fine." Scarlet answered his unspoken question.
Jay shrugged then turned to face Liam and I. "You wanted to see me?"
Liam smiled brightly wrapping an arm around my waist. "Now that everyone is here we have some big news."
Scarlet leaned forward bouncing slightly, clearly eager to finally be able to celebrate her niece or nephew. Adam grinned watching her curiously and I was surprised that it seemed she had kept her promise and not even told him.
"We are having a baby." Liam said happily, "And Aviana has agreed to marry me."
Ians jaw hit the floor. Adam looked just as surprised but also surprisingly thrilled. He stood up and came over to Liam clapping him on his good shoulder as Scarlet and Natalie rushed to me with squeals of joy and excitement.
"We will help you plan the wedding and I already have ideas on the nursery!" Scarlet beamed.
"That is if you want our help planning." Natalie commented, even in her excitement her voice was much quieter than Scarlets.
"Of course I need my maids of honor's opinion." I responded, earning another round of squeals, "And with all the morning sickness, I'll definitely need all the help I can get."
"Oh that shouldn't last much longer, normally morning sickness is gone by the second trimester." Scarlet grinned, "Oh I can't wait to meet him, or her. I'm going to be an aunt!"
I laughed wrapping an arm gingerly across my stomach and looked over meeting Liam's eyes. He smiled back at me now surrounded by all the men.
Adam was the first to walk up to me.
"Congrats man." He rubbed the back of his neck tensely.
I realized, aside from work, Adam and I hadn't talked since our fight weeks ago.
"Listen about the other day..." He started but I shook my head cutting him off.
"You were right, that's all there is to it so let's cut the sappy shit." I smiled and he nodded.
I knew we were good, that fight was in the past and officially resolved.
"This is amazing. I wish Sarah had come today. Now you really have to bring Aviana over for dinner though. Sarah is going to be so excited to finally meet the women who stole our little Liam's heart." Jay said, pulling me into a side hug.
"We will definitely plan on that." I responded.
My aunt hated coming to the mob house, anyone of the members was welcome at her pace but she didn't like being here. I couldn't completely blame her I guess.
Either way we humored her. Family BBQ's almost every month normally.
However, since the threat of the Yakuza and then the Falcons, I had given orders and everyone had avoided my Aunt and Uncle's personal home.
I didn't want somebody tailing one of us and putting them in any danger.
"Well," Jay sighe annoyed. "I should probably straighten Mason's nose, and give him something for pain."
I nodded chuckling.
"Nice hit by the way Ash." I said as Asher stepped up just behind where Jay had just been.
He grinned, "He deserved it."
"Agreed." I nodded.
"Congratulations, you'll be great." Ash smiled toward the girls, "You got lucky."
"I know." I chuckled.
"Geez I guess this means I never will get a shot at that." Ian sighed mournfully coming up beside Adam.
I glared at him and he laughed,
"Congratulations, your fun carefree days are officially over." He winked at me.
I rolled my eyes and looked towards Aviana who met my gaze.
She was smiling brightly with my sister and Natalie squealing and bouncing in front of her.
"It's worth it." I smiled at her.
