Don't Stay Close to Me

Today is our last day in the camp; it feels so short but I am already contented, a night with my best friends is enough. Besides, tomorrow is Monday and we have classes.

I woke up ahead of them, well, I’m not really a morning person but sometimes my body just gets up, awaken. I went out of the tent and felt the cold morning breeze so I reached in for my jacket and also my toiletries, I went to the lavatory and brushed my teeth and washed my face, the water is so cold and I felt my skin almost froze. I wiped my face with a towel and went back to the tent to put back my toiletries in my bag and took my phone with me.

It’s so quiet that I can clearly hear the birds chirping, the squirrels and the passing winds. It’s so peaceful. I never felt so calm and peaceful for the past few days. There’s always something that bothers me.

I started to walk around the woods until I saw the sparkling waters of the lake; it was dark green complimenting the grassy banks around it. There were birds dipping themselves quickly like bathing themselves and some animals come and drink then leave. I walked closer to it enticed by its spectacular view. Then I saw a figure. A man sitting near the lake. I strode closer and it dawn to me that the man is Professor Hanely. I halt. I don’t know why but I hesitate to walk nearer.

‘The possibilities…’

‘The other side….’

‘I need to know it… I need to do it before I regret it…’

Slowly, I step forward and started to walk again. My stomachs churn now and hands clammy—I’m nervous. I reached his back and I took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. I start to walk beside him.

“Hey.” I said and he looked up at me.

“Hey.” He said and gave a small smile.

“Hmm. Can I sit beside you?” I asked and his smile widened.

“Sure.” He answered and I smiled back then sat beside him, hugging my knees.

‘Should I speak now? But what should I say?’

‘What now?’

“You woke up early, Feisty Chubby Cheeks.” He said, taking me out of my bay and I felt my heart almost melt. I missed my nickname.

“I said don’t call me that, Jackass-hole.” I said and he chuckled.

Then it died out and we were quiet—coldly quiet atmosphere that gives me a chilling feeling and a squeeze in my chest. I gripped my jacket.

“Professor Hanely…” I trail off.

“Yeah?” He asked and I felt him look down at me.

“Why…why do you make me feel you ignore me?” I asked and slowly looked at him, meeting his eyes.

“It’s because that’s right.” He said and I felt my heart pinned.

“What about the kiss? Our kiss?” I asked my voice shaky.

“It’s …” He trailed off like he doesn’t know what to say.

“What about the song last night? How you …”

“I just can’t contain it…I know it’s wrong Jadyn but….”

“But what?” I asked eager to know what he has in mind.

“But you made me….” Every word he says gives me a chill within and my heart starts to throb terribly now.

“You made me fall for you… I love you.” He said and I felt my shoulders weaken and my grip on my jacket loosens.

The words he said echoed in my mind and my heart went wildly beating.

‘The other side… the possibility….’

“That’s why I ignore you because it hurts me to see you with Axel and I don’t want to hurt my brother but Jadyn…It’s now beyond painful.” He said and I felt my heart squeeze.

“It’s not only you—it breaks me when you don’t talk to me. And it even made me think that you regret our kiss and it is just another mistake of mine. Me, being stupid for a hopeless feeling….” I said and he moved to face me.

“I never regret I kissed you that day.” He said and touched my cheeks, sending shivers in me.

“Even I, I don’t regret it. Never. Because I love you.” I said and I saw him leaned forward. His breath fanning me, I leaned closer and our lips entwined once more and I felt my body sparks like there is too much energy within me.

His lips began to move and so do I. I took the pleasure of tasting his mouth; I part my lips to let his tongue in and mine in to his mouth. His hands moved to the back of my neck while I reached for his shoulder then I let my hands travel up to let my fingers brush his hair. I moved a little closer to him while his other hand reached for my back to hold me closer in place. I felt his body pressed on mine as we hold each other close. Our lips move in unison, nipping at each other’s lips, tongues entwine sometimes. Our heats exchanged; our breath mixed—sweet blend. Both panting, we pulled away but kept our hands in place.

“I love you.” He said smiling—that dimpled smile.

“I love you too.” I said smiling back at him.

I felt my phone vibrated and so I released him to get my phone from my jacket’s pocket, but he kept his hand on my back while the other went down to my waist. I opened the message it’s from Jane.

From: Jane

Bitch, where are you?

Food’s ready, I cooked. :)

****END of MESSAGE****

“It’s Jane; she’s looking for me now.” I said as I put back my phone in my jacket’s pocket.

“So, let’s go?” He said and I raised an eyebrow.

“You’re holding me so how can I stand?” I said and he chuckled, his minty breath fans me.

“Sorry, forgot.” He said and he removes his arms around my waist; by then, I slightly regret he released me. He stood up before me, dusting off his self.

“Stand up now, Feisty Chubby Cheeks.” He said and I glared up at him yet he just smiled.

“I said stop calling me that Jackass-hole.” I said as I stand up.

“It’s cute.” He said and I just rolled my eyes as I dust off myself.

I walked ahead of him and then suddenly I felt his hands slipped in mine, interlocking our hands. I looked up at him, surprised and he just smiled down at me making me smile back at him. We walked through the woods, hand in hand and I felt so light as if a big heavy burden was removed from me. As we get near the camp, I released his hand and he just let go.

“Hey! Where have you been?” Jane asked as she sees me without noticing that I came there with Professor Hanely.

“Uhm. I just went to the lake, it was amazing.” I said as she pulls me to get eating utensils.

“Hey, Axel aren’t you going to eat?” Professor Hanely asked Axel.

“I’m not hungry.” Axel answered, his voice sounded pissed.

“Such a jerk.” Jane mumbled then turned to me and put a big size of egg omelet with cheese and bacon.

“That’s only for you!” She said beaming at me.

After we all get our food, we sat around the same place like last night but I feel no tension anymore. I feel more likely comfortable.

“Hey. Why does Jadyn got to have a big piece of omelet?!” Mike grumbled.

“Well, Jane gave it to me.” I said.

“Let her eat as much as she could have… That would help her maintain her chubby cheeks.” Professor Hanely said and I glared at him.

“Do you want to eat with your plate on your face Hanely?” I threatened and he looked at me smiling.

“Feisty Chubby Cheeks.” He said.

“Jackass-hole.” I said and stuck a tongue on him.

“So, no need for the plan, I guess.” Rich said and we looked at them.

“Yeah.” Jane said.

“Ugh, let’s just eat.” I said and they chuckled.

“Sure, J.” Shane said.

We were now eating quietly, devouring the food Jane prepared, it’s really mouthwatering; Jane is really good in cooking that’s why she took culinary.

“Wait!” Jane screamed breaking the silence.

“What? You almost damaged my ear.” Mike grumbled holding his left ear and she just rolled her eyes.

“What did J call Cousman a while ago?” She asked.

“Hanely.” Sean said.

“No, the second one.” She said and they paused.

‘What’s with her now?’

“Ah. She called him, Jackass-hole.” Mike said and Jane turned to him then to me—glaring actually.

“What?” I asked, puzzled about her expression.

“You! Mr. Jackass-hole in your phone is Cousman!” She said with an accusing voice.

“Yeah… I just don’t want to say because you’re not answering my question that time.” I said with a ‘duh’ voice.

“Ahhhh! That’s why you’re keeping his messages?!” She said teasingly and I felt my cheeks redden.

“I just haven’t cleaned up my inbox!!” I said defensively.

“Jadyn, you’re blushing.” Shane took note of it and I felt my cheeks burn even more.

“No, I’m not! Psh!” I said and stood then stormed away from them.

“I’ll kill you all!” I yelled and I heard them chuckled.

Then I saw Axel standing next the lavatory, his eyes watching my every move, I put the dishes on the lavatory and faced him.

“Why didn’t you eat?” I asked him but he just looked at me impassively.

“Do you really care about me?” He asked suddenly, surprising me.

“What kind of question that? Of course, I do…I care for all of you.” I said and he walks towards me.

“Do you love me? Can you love me?” He asked and I was caught off guard.

“Axel, I’ve said it…I…don’t have any feelings for you but I don’t mean that we can’t be friends.” I said and I saw the hurt in his eyes making me feel a squeeze in my chest. I really don’t want to hurt him.

“I’m sorry…” I said and from the corner of my eyes I saw his fingers gathered in a fist.

“You can’t love me because you like him?” He asked and I was puzzled.

“Do you like him that’s why you kissed him?!” He asked a bit louder and his eyes burn in madness.

‘What is he talking about?’

‘… wait. Is it possible that he saw us?’

“What’s happening here?” Shane asked but as if I’m frozen to speak.

“Tell me!!” He yelled at me and his voice scared me, weakening my knees.

“Axel, what’s your problem? Don’t yell at her.” Professor Hanely said stepping in front of Axel and Axel snorted.

“What’s my problem?” He asked.

“You are!” He said punching Professor Hanely hard across his face making him almost stumble if he hadn’t balanced himself by pacing few steps away. We gasped.

“Axel!” Jane shouted but he ignored her while I’m frozen in my place.

“Of all people, why you?” He asked.

Professor Hanely stood up; cupping his chin then wiped a blood from the corner of his lips.

“I don’t know.” He simply said, calmly. Then, Axel launched himself to him and grabbed his collar.

“You know… you know it but why did you have to take her away from me.” He asked through gritted teeth gripping Professor Hanely’s tee collar forcefully. He kept quiet then Axel pulled one fist out and was ready to punch him again and it struck me.

“Stop!” I yelled and he stopped in midair.

“Axel it has nothing to do with anyone else. I’ve tried to say it many times you just don’t listen, I’ve tried to say it because I don’t want it to end up like this but you insisted.” I said and he slowly puts down his hand and loosens his grip on Professor Hanely’s collar.

“Ha, I guess… I need to accept my defeat.” He said and walks away.

We watched him walk to the van and take his motorcycle. He rode it and ignited the engine then went off.

“Sometimes he could be super dumb.” Jane said, breaking the silence.

“Don’t worry I’ll talk to him.” She added.

“Now, we need to aid your wound Sir.” Shane said.

“This is nothing, no need for that.” He said.

“Oh, no…we’ll aid that.” Jane said.

“I’ll take the First aid kit.” I said and started to walk to the tent.

“Uhm, just go with her.” Mike said, pushing him to walk.

“Okay…okay.” He said and followed me to the tent.

“We’ll take care of wrapping up things.” Rich yelled at us.

“Take your time.” Mike said in a sing song and I heard them giggled.

We reached the tent and I removed my shoes then stepped in the tent and I grabbed my bag. I took out the first aid kit from my bag and turned only to see Professor Hanely sitting with legs crossed and arms resting on his lap while he looks outside. I don’t know why but I felt myself smile.

‘He’s cute…yeah…he is.’

“Enjoying the view?” He asked and I rolled my eyes.

‘Okay, he’s cute still he’s a jerk…’

“Shut up.” I said and he smiled, then I crawled towards him then sat in front of him.

“Face here so I could remedy your wound.” I said and he turned his face.

I pulled out cotton then poured alcohol; I can feel his eyes watch me in every move I do.

“Don’t be a cry baby.” I said as I reach for his wound and he smiled.

“Tsss.” He hissed when the cotton with alcohol touched his wound and I chuckled then I do it again but he didn’t hiss again then I put on a small band aid on it.

“Brave baby boy.” I cooed as I tap the side of his face, puckering my lips like I’m really talking with a baby. Suddenly, he leaned down and brushed his lips on mine, taking me by surprise, my eyes widened and took in my lips. Then I jerked my head to look out.

“Don’t worry they are not looking.” He said and I turned to glare at him.

“…And if they saw that, I don’t care.” He said smiling and I felt my heart melt, my body slack and my glare at him softened.

“Hey, you done?” Jane asked popping from nowhere making me a little jumpy.

“Jane, you scared the shit out of me!” I grumbled and she laughed.

“Yeah, we’re done.” I said and reached out for my bag to put the kit back in it.

“Okay. We’ll keep this now then.” She said and I nodded.

He went out first then I followed.

After keeping all our things and load in to the van they all skedaddle in the van.

“STOP!” Jane said putting her palm in front of me and I raised my eyebrow.

“Why?” I asked and they all smiled to me.

“We’re full!” They chorused and slammed the door on my face.

“Shit!” I cursed and I heard them laughed inside.

“Get in now or we’ll leave you.” Professor Hanely said as he walks to the driver’s seat.

“Whatever.” I said and climbed in the passenger’s seat next the driver’s seat and shut the door.

“Hi, my cousin-in-law!” Jane chirped and I looked back, glaring at her.

“Ha-ha. Hi, Mrs. Hanely.” Rich said, waving at me.

“Shut up.” I said and rolled my eyes then took back my stare, sitting back, scowling.

“Buckle up, guys.” Professor Hanely said.

“Done!” They chorused.

“How about you, honey, have you buckled up?” He asked me and I heard them giggled. I glared at him but he just smiled at me. I sighed and buckled myself.

“Buckled up already, honey.” I said smiling at him sarcastically and I heard them giggle again while he smiled.

Then, we set off the grounds and headed back home. Jane as usual was being noisy, goofing around with Shane and Rich plus Sean and Drake then Mike adds up while I’m stuck playing fruit ninja in my phone.

We entered the border to our place when a ‘Troublemaker’ song by Olly Murs ft. Flo Rida played, it’s Mike’s phone.

“Shut up guys.” He said before answering and so they did.

“Hello.” He said.

“What?! Where are you now?!” He asked panic evident in his voice.

“Okay, I’ll be there in a minute or two.” He said and put down the phone.

“Sir, can you drop me at Dane’s Village?” Mike asked.

“Sure.” He said and sped up a little sensing the worried voice of Mike.

“We’ll be there. Just calm down.” Jane said and I looked back and saw Mike biting the tip of his thumb and his feet jumping up and down. I never seen him this worried before.

As soon as the van stopped at Dane’s Village Mike jumped off the van and ran towards a direction and we hurriedly followed him. We reached at a hidden alley and we saw a big man gripping on a girl’s wrist that struggles to get out of his grip.

“Stop it! You should not do it to her! Her condition is delicate!” Another girl shouted at him but the guy just slapped her and it made us see who it was.

“Cristel!” We chorused.

“Let go of her bastard!” Mike exclaimed and before we know it, he had launched himself to the guy and punched him hard across his face making his grip loosen and let go of the girl which is Ferra.

Shane and Rich went to help Cristel while Jane and I took Ferra, she’s already bleeding. I saw Professor Hanely ran in to help Mike when he was punched back by the big guy. While we rushed her to the van with Cristel after few minutes Professor Hanely and Mike were running towards us. Mike jumped in the van and Shane slammed the door closed while Professor Hanely quickly start the van and drove to the nearest hospital. While on the road I saw Mike’s worried face as he holds on Ferra’s hand.

Mike walked back and forth then sits and stands again to walk, he’s totally worried. When the doctor went out of the emergency room, he fast paced towards him and we stood and walked towards him.

“How is she?” Mike asked impatiently.

“She’s safe now, the bleeding was because of stress and we already supplied the blood she lost from the cut she had.” The doctor said.

“And?” Mike asked like he’s expecting more.

‘What does he expect the doctor to say?’

“And the baby is okay, it’s strong, the bleeding barely affected it.” The doctor said and Mike sighed in relief while we all gaped in surprise.

“You can see her after we move her in the recovery room.” The doctor said and walked back in the emergency room.

“She’s pregnant?” Rich asked; the first one to recover from the shock.

“Are you the….” Jane trailed off and Mike nodded.

“Yeah, I’m the father.” Mike said.

“Are you sure?” Shane asked.

“I may be a bitch but Ferra is different from me.” Cristel said from our behind and so we turned.

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“She never had sex; she had her first with Mike.” She said and we were just like “ah”.

Then a nurse came to us and told us what room Ferra was brought in. As we walk, Jane blabbed about her want to give the name for the baby and it’s really funny how childish she is.

‘There are so many possibilities…yes, it is. And sometimes it surprises us.’
