My alarm went off the following morning and I literally had to drag myself out of bed. I got up to take a shower and get ready for my first day at school. I put on the outfit I picked out yesterday night and went downstairs. I wasn’t in a mood to have breakfast but I did anyway cause I could hear my mom’s voice inside my head telling me how important the breakfast is.
To my surprise Zoe was already up and having breakfast. I took a seat beside her and dropped my backpack on the floor next to my stool.
“Good morning Hannah.”
“Morning!” I said in a nonchalant tone.
“I can’t believe this is your last year at school...” mom said full of emotion.
“Mom please! The last thing I want right now is for you to get all teary.”
“Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning...” Zoe said. I gave her a deadly look cause really I wasn’t in the mood for conversation this morning.
Before I say anything that I might regret, my mom intervened. “Zoe please finish your breakfast so we can get going.”
“I am ready mom.” She said chirpily.
Mom looked at me. “Going to drive her to school, please eat something before you leave.”
When mom and Zoe left, Liam came down in the kitchen freshly showered and dressed in dark denim pants and black t-shirt.
“Good morning! How are you?”
“I’ve been better... ”
“C’mon lighten up a bit.”
He took a cup from the kitchen cabinet and put some coffee.
“I want one of those too.” I said.
“You mean coffee?”He looked at me raising one eyebrow. I nodded.
“When did you start drinking coffee?” He asked me curiously.
“From about now...” I said flatly.
We were drinking coffee in silence when he broke the silence and asked If I was ready. I nodded again.
“Good. Let’s go!” I gave him a quizzical look. “We’re taking my car today so you can get familiar with the route.”
That took me by surprise. “Are you sure?”
“Of course I’m sure.”
When he drove us to school and we were about to get out of the car he grabbed my hand to stop me. I turned and looked at him. “What?”
“Everything is going to be alright! Remember... you are not alone!” He said giving me a reassuring look.
“Thank you Liam.”
We walked in school side by side and went to the administration office. We selected classes and we got our schedules. Liam took a look at my schedule and smiled
have some classes together...”
“We do? That’s good cause I don’t know a soul here.” I said with a sigh of relief.
“Don’t worry! You’ll meet new people and make friends.”
“Make friends for what? For a year? And then go to college and never see them again? Naaah...”
“Don’t be like that! Let’s meet with Mark, he is at the cafeteria.”
We walked down the hall from administration office and entered the wing where the cafeteria is situated. Once we entered the cafeteria, Mark waved at us.
“Welcome to our school Hannah!”
I didn’t even bother to say anything, I just nodded. Being to a new school my last year of high school wasn’t something I was thrilled about but I couldn’t do anything to avoid that so I had to suck it up! At least I know Liam and Mark I said to myself. What I hated the most was the fact that Jenn was too far away.
The rest of the day flew by not as quickly as I wanted but it was finally over. I got into the car and waited for Liam to drive us back home. He was talking with Mark. When we finally got home, Zoe wouldn’t shut it about her new school. She was so happy and excited that I wanted to throw up.
Hours later, I was lying on my bed thinking about the conversation I had with Jenn earlier. She was as miserable as me. It was a warm night and I couldn’t sleep.
After tossing and turning for an hour, I gave up and decided to cool off at the pool. I got up, changed into my bikini and went for a swim. I walked outside at the patio and sat by the pool. I sunk my feet in the cool water from the knees down, rested back on my arms and turned my face up so I could see the night’s sky.
It was so peaceful... I haven’t realized how long I was staring the stars at the clear sky but next time I looked around it seemed even darker because all the lights at the house were off.
I decided to dive and let my body float while looking at the sky. The only sound was the water around me. Suddenly, I heard a door and when I tried to focus at the house I saw a figure coming from the darkness.
“You couldn’t sleep?” I recognized his voice first and then I saw him coming inside the pool. I swam at the corner of the pool to keep some distance but he followed me there.
“No. The heat was too much, so I decided to cool off at the pool instead of a shower.”
“I guess we had the same idea...” He said with a smirk on his face.
He came closer and his eyes were trained at me. His eyes were shining under the moonlight like the stars in the night’s sky. He was beautiful... What? Did I really just thought of that? What is wrong with me? I wanted to hit myself on the head. I don’t know how long I was staring at him saying nothing but I guess it was more than normally it should be.
“What is it Hannah? Talk to me!” He asked, his voice calm but full of worry.
I wanted the earth to open up and shallow me whole. “Nothing... I think it’s latte so I should get back to bed. Try to get some sleep cause we have school tomorrow.” I said while taking a step towards the edge of the pool but he grabbed me by the wrist and stopped me. I turned around and looked at him quizzically.
“I am not letting you leave until you tell me what you were thinking a minute ago.” He said looking at me intently.
Oh my god! I’m screwed! I can’t tell him the truth... Damn it Hannah! Think of something fast!
“Erm… nothing really... about school and Jenn mostly.” I lied through my teeth wishing he couldn’t see past my lame excuse.
He loosened his grip on my wrist and with his other hand tucked a lock of hair behind my ear. “I know you miss Jenn and you probably feel alone... but you’re not alone! I’m here and I’m not going anywhere.”
I didn’t say anything... What could I possibly say after what he told me. A thousand things were in my mind right now. My heart was beating fast and I started shivering.
“You are getting cold... Let’s get out!”
We got out of the pool and he grabbed the towel that was on the lounging chair and wrapped it around me. He was standing in front of me and my eyes followed the water droplets on his sculpted chest. Luckily he didn’t follow my gaze. I had to mentally kick me to avert my eyes. Stop it Hannah! What the hell is wrong with you? I dried myself and gave him the towel.
“Thanks. Your turn now.”
He took the towel, dried himself and then we went upstairs to our rooms. We were standing outside our bedrooms when he broke the silence. “Goodnight Hannah! Sweet dreams!”
“Goodnight Liam! Sleep well.” I replied. I entered my room and closed the door behind me. I plopped on my bed and desperately tried to get some sleep but I couldn’t. My mind was in a mess. Why on earth do I keep thinking of Liam? His voice... his touch... his eyes... No no no! This is wrong Hannah!
My alarm went off and to my relief it was already Friday! Two weeks have already passed. It that time, I met a girl that sites in front of me in my English class. Her name is Kira and she seems nice. I also met a boy, Rick that has almost the same classes as me.
I got up to get ready for school and went downstairs for breakfast. I discovered that I like coffee in the morning and I’m sticking to that and a French toast. I drove myself to school and went to my locker. Rick was walking to me with a smile on his face.
“Total black look again?”
“I got to go... see you later in art class.”
Hours later I met Liam and Mark for lunch at the cafeteria.
“Hey! How’s your day so far?”
“Good I guess...”
“What are you doing this weekend?”
“Don’t know about you but I’m not planning on doing anything.”
“Not in the mood!” I said flatly.
Liam turned to Mark “Bro you know why... Just drop it!”
(A/N: what do you think about Liam's behavior? Let me know if you like the story so far. What do you think it's going to happen next? Stay tuned for next chapter.)
