Chapter 4

Amanda, do you know why you’re here?” He finally asked, when he stopped pacing back and forth which had been making me nervous, his unusually calm voice made chills run down my spine.

“Um...yes...no...maybe....uh,” I struggled to form a coherent sentence.

He looked at me with a scrutinising glare and I gulped, shifting uncomfortably under his gaze.

What crap had I put my silly ass in?

“You’re here because I found my mate, your Luna, sprawled on the ground at the pack house entrance where a rogue could have easily spotted her. She was unconscious when I found her, still is, and luckily she wasn’t knocked out by a physical weapon, but as you already know she has emotional epilepsy, and all the anger and hate that was probably emanating from those rogues could’ve killed her,” he said, anger seeping into his voice and again, I swallowed a lump in my throat and looked down in guilt.

“So, would you mind telling me where hell you were when Samantha’s rebellious side took over and she decided to leave the basement?” He asked.

I looked down at my lap as I answered, “I-I w-was l-looking for m-my brother, Alpha.”

“Oh yes, your brother. Connor, right?” He asked.

“Yes,” I answered.

“Asher told me about him. He said that he was with Connor at the time of the attack and as my delta, I expect that he’s capable of taking care of a thirteen year old kid,” Alpha let out going back to pacing.

I looked at Asher who was looking regretful, probably for telling him that he was with my brother during the attack. I wanted to telling him it was okay, but then Alpha told him to leave, because Asher would obviously make him go easy on me, being the Alpha’s best friend and all.

“Asher leave,” Alpha repeated, this time using his Alpha tone.

With a sigh, Asher, walked to the door and before leaving he said, “Will, this isn’t entirely her fault, don’t be too hard on her.”

Disregarding his words, Alpha turned back to me and glared at me, “Tell me, Amanda, why stay with your brother when Asher was with him? He was safe and you trust Asher enough to leave Connor with him, so why did you not go back to Samantha? Don’t get me wrong, I understand completely that your brother’s important to you, but so is my mate to me and your actions could have cost her life,” he said.

“I-I’m sorry Alpha. Really, I am, but my parents are out of town and Connor’s my responsibility and I understand that Luna is also my responsibility, but after getting Connor somewhere safe, I was about to go straight to Luna Samantha, but then my commander told me to go to the south village,” I explained to Alpha.

“And you listened? Are you saying that a commander’s orders overrule mine?” He asked.

“No, I j-just didn’t think that I w-was in any place to disagree,” I stuttered.

“As your Luna’s personal guard, you know you don’t have to listen to all those wolves anymore right? The only person you answer to is me or your Beta,” he clarified for me.

“Oh?”

I had no idea that I had that much power. I mean, I knew that being Luan’s bodyguard came with benefits, but not that many.

“So you’re telling me that you didn’t know any of this?” He asked, with a raised eyebrow.

“N-no sir,” I replied.

He let out a sigh and said, “You shall be on two weeks probation.”

I sigh and nod my head. Being on probation meant that I’d be proving myself every day to a Alpha to show him that I’m right for the job and I’d get extra training. Being on probation was the worst since you’re basically treated like a new kid in school, but knowing that I had special privileges as Luna’s bodyguard, meant, I could punish them if they disrespected me. I was actually excited for this.

“Your probationary trainer will be Beta Jacob and a few times, I will be there,” he said and all, my excitement ran out.

Oh. So no use of special privileges? Great.

Asher’s POV

This was my fault, I shouldn’t have told him that I was with Connor. If I hadn’t, he’d be more understanding. What if he demoted her to a Group E trainee. That’s the worst group to be. It basically shows that you’re a very bad warrior and need a lot of extra attention. Will was my best friend and I used that to get Amanda out of deep trouble whenever she got into it, which he didn’t really mind most of the time, but this time it included Samantha.

I walked back and forth outside of the door wishing it wasn’t sound proof. I took a seat near the office, my knee subconsciously bouncing up and down. I know my worry for her is too much for someone who is just her friend, but I was in love with her and I couldn’t help it.

After half an hour, the door opened and Amanda walked out, looking confused.

“Hey, you okay?” I asked bringing her in front of me by her elbow.

“Yeah, I guess.,.... Asher, did you know that as Luna’s body guard, I’m only supposed to take orders from the Alpha and Beta,” she asked.

“Well, if course, she’s the Luna and being her personal bodyguard is a great honour and comes with a lot of advantages, one of which being a very large paycheque,” I elaborated for her.

“Wait, wait, wait, I’m supposed to get paid!” She screeched.

Before I could answer, the door open and Will answered for her, “Since you’re on probation, no,” and walked away.

She looked a bit down and I said, “Hey, at least you know you’re going to get paid.”

“Yeah, great,” she muttered, “Is it only me who thinks so, but is Alpha a buzz kill,” she asked with a scowl.

“Yeah, I guess, when he’s Alpha William, when he’s just William, he’s the heart of the party,” I told her, remembering the last time we went to a party.

“Huh, wish I could meet him,” she chuckled.

“Yeah sorry, but you probably won’t. Now, come on,” I said grabbing her hand.

“Where are we going?” She asked, staggering after me.

“Wait and see.”

Amanda’s POV

It was beautiful.

The sounds of waves crashing against the cliff we were on was calming. I looked at Asher close his eyes and breathe in and then opened them and looked at me. I quickly averted my eyes, to not seem creepy and finally decided to break the silence.

“This is beautiful, Asher. Who’s is it?”

“It’s Will’s, he bought it two years ago. When things were hard at the pack, he brought me here and we just talked.”

“Oh, that’s nice. Is there anything else you would use this for?” I asked him.

“Well, since he barely ever uses it anymore, it’s technically mine, so I hold beach parties here sometimes, but I only bring friends here, since it holds sentimental value to me.”

“It’s nice, and thanks for bringing me here.”

“Of course, you should know by now how important you are to me,” he said pulling me into a side hug.

I leaned into his side, completely melting at the proximity. I wish Asher and I could be more, I wish he could see me a more than just a friend and fall in love with me, like I fell in love with him. I know that I’ll always love Asher, even if I were to meet my mate. That’s just how much I love him.
But we're just friends.
