“Aiden, slow down.” I groan as I watch him drift around the room frantically throwing things into our bags as quickly as possible.
“No, we need to head back.” He says not bothering to look at me. After we got home last night, we went straight to be not really knowing what to say so we just held one another instead. But I woke up to this Aiden packing up everything saying we had to leave.
“What’s going on?” I ask standing up to go meet him, I grab his arm stopping him in his path. He turns to face me slowly as I hold his face gently in my hands, searching his eyes for any type of reasoning.
“We need to go back home. You said your brother had a few witches in his pack, they’ll help you.” He says making my eyes widen. “Before this gets any worse.”
“Aiden, it doesn’t work like that.” I say with a weak smile.
“Well it has to.” He says with his eyes darkening a little. “Witches always find a way, they’ll find a way to bring Alex out from wherever he is.”
“You’re going to go to some witches in a rogue pack? You?” I say skeptically. “Your eyes are already glowing at the mention of them and I can feel the rage coming off you. It’ll just make you worse.”
“Anything happening to you will make me worse.” He says pressing his forehead to mine. “I’ll be fine once you are, so don’t worry about me.”
“Aiden..” I try again but he stops me by pressing his soft lips to my own, kissing me slowly as his arms slide around my waist.
“Don’t fight me on this, please.” He says against my lips, I nod reluctantly making him press a quick kiss to my lips before continuing his packing. I sigh as I go bath before helping him gather everything.
“Are you sure?” I ask at the car after he locked up everywhere.
“Yes.” He says looking at the large open field before driving away.
“What ever happened to Jessica?” Aiden asks as we make our way down the large highways, we already crossed over one state and had another to go. If we kept driving all night, we’d make it back home tomorrow morning
“I don’t want to play.” I mumble looking out the window.
“Come on.” Aiden says trying to draw me out.
“No.” I say making myself into a ball.
“Ramen died for nothing then.” He says making me crack a smile. “Julian what’s my favorite color?”
“And what’s the color of my eyes?”
“Black with a little gold.” I mumble, when he doesn’t say anything I turn to look at him. He’s smiling away with his eyes focusing on the road. “Why’d you ask me that?”
“No reason.” He says glancing my way.
“I’m going to sl-”
“What’s your earliest memory of me? Or just any memory?” He asks eagerly cutting me off making me groan at the question. “Indulge me.”
“We were like six or something.” I start after a while of straining to remember everything. “Our parents took us to the zoo and you dragged me away to the giraffes. I told you we had to stay with our parents but you wouldn’t listen. I wanted to see the penguins but you said giraffes were cooler. So we stood there looking up at the skyscrapers that were giraffes and you were smiling so brightly as if they were magical. And I asked you why you liked them so much and you told me it was because they’re so tall and you want to be that tall. To look over everyone and protect them because you can see the trouble coming from far. I told you that was a stupid logic and you pushed me down some stairs.”
“I don’t remember this.” He says with a slight frown. “I mean, it sounds like me because giraffes are fucking amazing, but I don’t remember that day.”
“You disappeared a few months after, they said you went on a trip with some family but now I’m guessing it was the rogues.” I say making his smile fade.
“Yeah.” He mumbles slowly creating a wall to block me out from that memory.
“I’m going to sleep.” I say quietly not enjoying the tense atmosphere, he nods giving me a brief smile as I put the chair back and drift away.
“Park in the school lot, it’s easier to get to the pack from here.” I say as we drive into our town that I’ve missed so much. I’d been gone for a few weeks but it felt like years since I was last year. The streets were completely empty since it was barely after three am and most people enjoyed their sleep. Aiden parks in his usual spot of the completely empty parking lot before getting out.
“Can’t we do this after seeing our pack?” I ask standing outside the car.
“I’m not wasting any time.” He says sternly.
“I don’t know how Oliver’s going to react to seeing you.” I say taking his hand as we make our way into the forest, using the path I’ve taken many times.
“If he tries anything I have reason to kill and you can’t be mad at me for that.” He says with a shrug.
“You’re not killing anyone!” I growl making him roll his eyes.
“If someone comes at me, I will kill them and that’s a promise.” He says kissing my head like he promised me the world. I decide to ignore his threat as we make our way through the forest quietly our hands keeping us connected. When I pass the usual meeting point I feel my nerves rise, I only ever went in when I was invited and Oliver made sure everyone was cool with it first. Now we’re just going to go to the pack uninvited as two Alphas of the pack that killed some of their own.
“This is a bad idea.” I say turning to face him right when an arrow slices over my shoulder hitting the tree directly behind me. I freeze as I look at Aiden’s whose eyes fill with rage as he pulls me down, barely missing the series of arrows that follow as we jump to the ground.
“Are you okay?” Aiden says with bloody thirsty eyes as he searches me frantically to make sure I’m okay. Before I can respond an arrow hits me straight in my leg making me cry out in pain, Aiden pulls me behind a large arrangement of bushes behind some trees trying to escape the oncoming attack upon us. I sit panting heavily as I pull the arrow from my leg with a scream of pain as my eyes fill with tears.
(A.N - okay okay okay. I don’t want to hear any bitching about how Julian is weak for an alpha etc. etc. I don’t care how strong you are, if you get shot with an arrow it’s going to fucking hurt. That’s all. Continue. 😂)
I press my hand down on the bleeding wound with shaky hands, clenching my teeth to hold in the screams. I just had to keep it down long enough for the bleeding to stop and it’ll heal. Aiden looks at me with broken eyes, emitting his own waves of pain as he clenched his fist in a familiar look of rage with eyes drowning in anger.
“N-no.” I stutter through shaking teeth, looking him straight in the eyes. “Don’t.”
“I’m going to kill them.” He growls, the words not getting through the him as he back up, his bones cracking as he starts to shift.
“It’s me! Julian!” I try screaming to the people whose shooting came to a stop. “Run!” I shout trying to warn them as Aiden stand before me in his wolf form. I force myself to stand up ignore the pain as I stand in front of Aiden making him growl at me angrily for blocking his path.
“Don’t. You’ll do something you’ll regret. S-so don’t.” I say approach him while wincing on the healing leg. “Hey, it’s healing. I’m fine. Look at me, I’m fine. Now I need you Aiden, I need you to shift back.” His rage filled eyes waver for a split second telling me I was getting through to him. “Ignore the anger and shift, push it away and focus on me. F-focus on me.” I say bending down slowly as I look straight into his pulsing red orbs. “Focus on me.” I whisper as I watch him mentally fight with himself. “You can do it, fight it.” I say calmly not letting my eyes waver from his own. I let out a breath of relief when shifts letting me relax knowing nobody is going to die yet, he puts me into his lap before searching my already healing leg that was only twitching slightly with faint pain now.
“That’s the first time I was able to come back from it, the anger.” He whispers looking at me with slightly confused eyes.
“I’m proud of you.” I whisper as he tightens his grip on me. “So proud of you.”
“Julian!” I tense as I hear Oliver’s voice calling me along with approaching footsteps. I rest my hand on Aiden’s chest to try and calm him as a growl escapes from deep inside of him.
“Hey, don’t do anything stupid.” I say using my hand to force him to look at me. “I’m fine.”
“No promises.” He mutters pressing a kiss to my forehead as someone pushes past the bushes we were behind. I look up to see my brother looking down at us with widening eyes.
“Julian.” He says letting out a breath of relief before locking eyes with a growling Aiden. “.......and Aiden.”
“You shot him with a fucking arrow.” He spits making Oliver eyes dart down to my bloody leg.
“Shit, I’m so sorry Julie.” He says with his blue eyes filling with guilt, using that stupid nickname as he tries to come closer but Aiden stops him.
“Don’t touch him.” He growls standing up while still cradling me which I didn’t mind much, he was so comfortable.
“He’s my brother.” Oliver says through clenched teeth.
“He’s my mate.” Aiden spits back his eyes glowing red making Oliver freeze a little in shock.
“Okay, why don’t we head to the pack? Can we come?” I ask making Oliver’s eyes reluctantly draw away from Aiden and onto me.
“Of course.” He says nodding as he glances back at Aiden with a slight frown.
“He’s coming to.” I say before he can argue.
“Yeah, no problem.” He says squinting his eyes as he studies an annoyed-looking Aiden.
“You in love with me or something, move.” He snaps making me crack a smile, it faded when Oliver glared at me angrily. He turns and starts walking as Aiden and I follow behind.
