Chapter 3: Glad to Have You

Yesterday was a...handful. I couldn’t describe how exactly I felt when that brown-haired teen insulted Halo as he did. I just felt this...blinding rage. Like I couldn’t control what I was doing, all my mind could process was “He’s a piece of crap and insulted you and Halo”...and not just that...he called me a demon. The whole demon thing already messed with my head, I didn’t need some random, cocky teenager to shove it down my throat.

I didn’t know why I was so protective over her, I’ve only known her for a couple of days...not even a week yet. There was just something about her that I felt like deep down I almost...knew. Like...when I’m with her it’s like I’m having this kind of Deja Vu that had no trace to anything. I didn’t understand it...why was I so attracted to her? And not just in the kind of...crush way I guess, but almost this spiritual connection?... I don’t know, it’s stupid...I’m just being clingy over someone that probably thinks I’m some annoying stranger...

I was in a dead sleep, laying on the bed next to Halo since she fell asleep last night, and I didn’t want her to get scared like she did the night before. I moved slightly, taking up the whole right side of the bed, my hair falling over my face as I slept. I felt the warmth next to me leave, but not moving at the coldness that filled the gap where the warmth once was.

I woke up about an hour later, sitting up and rubbing my eyes tiredly. I looked around, seeing Halo just walking into the room, a small smile on her face as she noticed me awake.

“I was just about to wake you up,” she spoke in a warm tone, walking over and sitting on the bed beside me.

“What time is it?” I asked tiredly, looking at her with a dazed look. She giggled slightly at my behavior.

“1:30,” she responded, letting out a small laugh. “You slept for a long time.”

“I usually do,” I said with a yawn, laying back down and looking up at the ceiling. “The bed’s comfy, I probably won’t leave it.”

“You have to! You have to pick what we do today! Remember?” she said in an eager tone, a small pout coming onto her face...Oh god, I can’t resist that….

“Fine,” I said, a smirk forming on my face. “I choose us laying in bed all day and doing nothing.”

“Oh come on!” she complained, pouting more and giving me the puppy dog eyes…oh dear god that’s killing me…

“Okay okay!...but can we at least stay at home? Yesterday was a bit...overstimulating…” I asked, my voice becoming quieter towards the end.

“Sure! But you have to pick what we do,” she said with a smirk.

“But I did!” I complained, crossing my arms...I was really bad at decision-making…

“At least pick something we DO here at home,” she replied, looking at me with another pout and her cheeks slightly flustered.

“Okay fine…we can watch another movie? But you get to pick, I did last night!” I said, my arms still crossed, looking at her pout causing me to turn a bit red myself.

“Fine, deal,” she said with a giggle. We looked at each other in silence for a good five seconds, it making my face even redder, along with hers.

“Well, I’m gonna go shower first so I’ll be back,” Halo said, giving me a small smile with her flustered cheeks and getting up from the bed. She walked out of the room happily, causing me to release a small smile.

I got up after she left, thinking it’d be awkward if I were to stay in the bedroom when she was gonna come back and change. I walked over to the duffle bag I had put in the bedroom since it was easier that way, grabbing my phone and some headphones and walking out into the living room. I sat on the couch, leaning back and playing ‘Lithium’ by Nirvana and closing my eyes.

After about twenty minutes I heard the bathroom door open, her coming out in just a towel. I instinctively turned my head around to see what was behind me, turning bright red and looking away. She looked at me while beet-red and then away, walking a bit fast towards the bedroom.

“Hold on er…I’ve gotta grab...uh...” I awkwardly spoke, wanting to just grab some clothes so I could shower after her. She let me grab them, her gaze turned away as she tightly held the towel part around her stomach.

“Sorry…” I mumbled guiltily, walking out of the room with my head down.

“It’s fine,” she replied quietly, closing the door as I walked out.

I looked down guiltily and awkwardly, my heart slightly racing from the recent occurrence. Why did I have to leave my duffle in there? Why did I have to turn around? She’s gonna think I’m some perv...that I’m a creep...she’s gonna hate me...

I walked into the bathroom, my mind cycling through thoughts that I couldn’t shake off. Another thing that kept coming back was why she got so upset last night...was she okay?...there might be things she’s not telling me…

I took my shower, getting out, and looking around the bathroom confused...damn it I forgot my clothes out in the living room...crap…

I walked out of the bathroom with only a towel around my waist. I looked around the room in hopes that no one would see me. I took a deep breath and quickly walked over to where the clothes were on the couch.

“What happened?” I heard Halo say, causing me to almost jump. I looked up at her, seeing her at the doorway, wearing one of my hoodies that went down to the middle of her thigh.

She was looking at my arms, from the wrists to my forearms, both covered in scars. She walked over, taking one of my arms and tracing the scars lightly with her fingers as she looked up at me concerned.

“It’s uh….it’s nothing…” I answered quietly, not wanting to get into the reason. I looked away, my attention focused on the ground.

“Tell me, please?” she pleaded as she continued looking up at me. I took a deep breath, continuing to stare at the ground as I began fumbling with my fingers.

“They’ um…self-inflicted…” I spoke quietly, closing my eyes in guilt. I felt like she would think I’m one of those stereotyped emo guys who binge listen to ‘My Chemical Romance’ as I slit my wrists...I wasn’t…

“Why?” she asked, continuing to trace the scars with her soft fingers as she gazed up at me.

“I…I had kinda...a...bad relationship a few years back...and well...things didn’t go exactly they were supposed to...and I...I needed a vent so…” I explained very vaguely. There was a lot more that went into that but I didn’t want to explain it...I don’t even think I could….

“I understand that…I kinda went through the same thing,” she said quietly, pulling her hands away from my arm and lifting the hoodie and revealing her stomach, it covered in scars, but not to the same extent as my arms.

“I had a boyfriend...he...did something to me about a year was at a party…” she started, looking down as tears formed in her eyes. “...he took something from wasn’t his to take…” she trembled as tears ran down her face.

I took a deep breath, going close to her and hugging her. I wasn’t much into the hug, touchy-feely stuff too often, but when it came to people sincerely needing she did now. I felt her bury her face in my chest, her arms latching onto me like I was a family member going off to war.

“I’m sorry you had to go through that,” I started quietly as I held her. “That wasn’t right.”

“I-It...h-h-hurt…” she stuttered as she sobbed. Her cheeks were wet with tears and her eyes were bloodshot. “..I...w-w-wanted...t-t-to...w...wait..til…m-m-marriage.”

“I’m sorry,” I spoke again, not knowing what else to say. Normally I’d tell her that it was okay, but it wasn’ one should have to go through one.

“I-I-It’s...not...y-your...f-fault,” she trembled in my chest. I held her just slightly tighter, my body a bit tense but I forced myself to not be so tense to try and comfort her.

After a few minutes, she pulled away, wiping her eyes with her fingers. She sniffled, looking down and then up at me through bloodshot eyes.

“I-I’m sorry...f-for...having y-you...see that…” she shakily said, letting out a shaky deep breath from the aftermath of her crying.

“It’s okay, like I said no one should have to go through that,” I said, looking down and fumbling with my fingers. “...Was that why you were upset yesterday?” I asked, turning my gaze to her.

“..Y-Yeah…” she answered quietly. She let out another sniffle, wiping her nose with the hoodie sleeve. “…” she mumbled since she was wearing my hoodie still. I shook my head.

“It’s okay, I have like a thousand hoodies, you can keep it,” I replied, looking back down and realizing I was still in only a towel. She smiled slightly, sniffling again and turning her attention away from me.

“I’ll er...let you get dressed then,” she said quietly, turning on her heels and walking back into the bedroom with her head down.

“Okay…” I responded quietly, looking down and taking my clothes from the couch, and walking back towards the bathroom.

I sat the clothes on the bathroom counter, changing as I thought through everything she had said...what she did to herself because of that...It wasn’t right, and I understood some of that in a way. I wasn’t going to turn this into something about me, because then I’d just be selfish...who was this guy?...why would they do that to her?

I put on a pair of dark grey sweatpants and a baggy black T-shirt that had the symbol for the band ‘Fall Out Boy’. I opened the door, using the towel I had to dry my hair somewhat. I looked up, seeing Halo sitting on the couch with a sketchbook in her hand. I walked over to her slowly and sat down beside her.

“What’re you drawing?” I asked, causing her to jump and jolt her attention towards me. She flattened the sketchbook to her chest in an attempt to hide the picture, her face becoming flustered as she looked down.

“N-Nothing…” she spoke quietly and awkwardly, turning her gaze downward as she held the sketchbook tightly to her chest.

“C’mon, what is it?” I asked in a lightened tone to break some of the tension that started after her breakdown earlier.

“Nothing, l-like I said,” she replied a bit louder, squeezing the sketchbook even tighter.

“Please, lemme see it!” I said lightly with a small smile, leaning close to her and attempting to grab the sketchbook. She turned even redder as it fell out of her grasp, landing on the couch cushion. She turned her head away, her face bright red.

“...Woah,” I said in awe, looking at the picture she had drawn. I picked it up, holding it in my hands as I stared at it amazingly. “...this is amazing.”

It was a picture she drew of me, it looking very accurate and realistic. I continued to stare at it, then looking over at Halo with amazement in my eyes. She was still looking away, her face beet-red.

“I’m serious, this is really good,” I said truthfully, handing the sketchbook back to her since I could tell she was feeling embarrassed. She yanked the book away from my grip, holding it tightly to her chest again as she looked down.

“...Thanks…” she spoke quietly, looking at the ground embarrassingly.

“ you...wanna watch that movie now or…” I responded awkwardly, rubbing the back of my neck. I felt a bit guilty for taking the sketchbook when I could tell she didn’t want me to see it, but she did have a natural talent.

“Yeah,” she said quietly, closing the sketchbook and setting it on the coffee table, turning her gaze upward at the TV.

“So’re picking right?” I asked as I continued to look down, knowing the answer but wanting to clarify. She nodded, taking the remote from off the coffee table and turning her gaze upward, flipping through Netflix and eventually landing on the movie ‘Percy Jackson’.

She put it on, leaning back in her seat and staring at the TV, her face flustered but not to the extent as before.

“I’m sorry about earlier…” I mumbled, glancing up at the TV every so often with my face red.

“What?” she asked, turning her attention towards me.

“I’m sorry about earlier...the whole sketchbook thing…” I said, looking down still while fumbling with my fingers. My heart was beating heavily against my chest, feeling even worse as my face reddened.

“It’s okay,” Halo replied, looking back at the TV.

“Are you sure?” I asked insecurely, glancing up at her and then down. I needed complete clarification, not for her to say it was okay, and for me to think it is, and then me feel even worse about it because I know deep down she’s just saying it to be nice.

“Yeah, it’s fine, don’t worry about it,” she said in what sounded like an honest tone, but I wasn’t entirely sure.

About halfway through the movie, I felt something move closer to me. I turned my gaze over to beside me, seeing Halo sitting close beside me. I looked back at the TV, my face turning a bit red.

“Hey er...can I ask you something?” I heard her say as she looked up at me. I looked back at her, chewing the inside of my cheek nervously.

“Uh...sure,” I replied, not really knowing where this was going. She looked down with her face reddened, moving even closer to me so that our arms were touching. She looked up at me again, her eyes lighting up as the light from the TV hit them, her staring at me but not in my eyes...I guess she knew about me not liking the whole eye-contact thing.

“Can I do something? And you can’t say no,” she asked, looking up at me still. Her soft features were more noticeable in the light, her bright green eyes beaming in the TV’s light. I stared at her red-faced, now noticing how beautiful she was.

“Er...okay?” I questioned, not for sure what she was about to do. But I also couldn’t tell her was like she was hypnotizing me.

She took a deep breath, closing her eyes for a second, then leaned forward to where our faces met, pressing her lips against mine softly. I sat there a bit tense and in shock, my eyes widening slightly at the sudden kiss, it deepening the longer she held her lips against mine.

I felt this almost...euphoric feeling phase over me, my heart beating at a rapid pace as my brain told my body to become less tense. My body slowly softened, my eyes falling closed as I kissed her back.

I felt her arms slide around the back of my neck, her crawling onto my lap and kissing me deeper. I could feel a small smile forming on her face, her light body resting on my lap. I wrapped my arms around her waist tightly, pulling her closer to me as I kissed her even deeper.

Her grip around my neck tightened as I felt her lightly bite my lip, the kiss deepening more as she moved closer to me. My heart picked up its pace, my body unknowingly pulling her even closer to where our torsos were touching. I shoved my tongue into her mouth, tilting my head slightly as I kissed her more intensely.

She broke the kiss, pulling away and looking into my eyes. I felt the urge to look away at the sudden eye-contact, but for some reason, something about her eyes hitting mine felt...good. Almost everyone I’ve ever known I haven’t been able to hold eye contact with, but her...I didn’t want to move...I wanted to get lost in her eyes and never come out.

“I love you,” I mumbled without realizing it. My eyes widened after I comprehended what I just said, clasping my hands over my mouth quickly as I looked away with my face red.

She stared at me in shock, her face also red as she continued to sit on my lap. After a moment she moved her hand to my face and turned her head towards me. She released a small, warm smile, moving close to me and softly kissing me again.

“I love you too,” she mumbled in my mouth.

My heart beat fast and heavy against my chest as my face reddened more. Those four words... meant more to me than life in itself. She pulled away from me as she broke the kiss, sitting on my lap still with a smile.

“I’d probably run after I said that,” I said honestly in a nervous voice, biting the inside of my cheek again. She shook her head.

“No, I would never,” she said with a smile, then crawling off my lap. She leaned her head against my arm, sitting close to me still. I smiled at the warmth, my heart beating fast still.

I can’t believe that just happened...I can’t believe it...we haven’t even known each other for a week and yet...this feels so natural. I felt that same Deja Vu-like feeling again as I felt her move closer to me, but I ignored it since it wasn’t even Deja Vu I thought I was feeling. It’s probably just my mind playing a trick on me. Just the excitement and the overwhelming feelings taking over my body I-…I couldn’t describe was the best thing I’ve felt in my whole life.

-The Next Day-

I was asleep on the bed, curled up as I had my arm around her waist. I felt the warmth beside me leave, causing me to let out a groan and turn over. I felt my body start shaking, hearing a voice beside my ear.

“Damian, it’s 12:30, you need to get up,” Halo spoke as she continued to shake me. I woke up, sitting up and rubbing my eyes tiredly, sitting up and looking at her like a little kid.

“You’re so cute when you wake up,” she said with a smile, looking up at me while wrapped in my hoodie. I let out a small smile, still being half asleep and not comprehending what she was saying. She giggled, moving close to me and hugging me as I continued to sit there tiredly.

“So, I was thinking of some stuff we could do today…” she started with a smile, pulling away and looking up at me. “I thought that maybe we could go and get some ice cream!”

“Okay…” I mumbled tiredly, rubbing my eyes and just beginning to understand everything that was being said. “Wait...getting ice cream like...going out?” I asked, looking at her confused as I nervously began biting the inside of my cheek.

“Well, yeah!” she said smiling still, then seeing my uncomfortable look. She frowned slightly, moving her hand up to my face and holding it there. “It’ll be okay, we won’t see those stupid teenagers this time. And if we do then we’ll just avoid them.”

“I er…yeah sure. It’ll be fine, yeah,” I said quietly, feeling still a bit uncomfortable but I knew she was right. If we saw those teens then we’d just avoid them.

“We can have breakfast first if you want,” she suggested, moving her hand away from my face and setting it softly on her lap.

“Yeah, that sounds good,” I answered tiredly, letting out a yawn and then laying back down on the bed. “…I don’t wanna leave the bed though.”

“Oh c’mon!” she started with a giggle, taking my hand and attempting to yank me up. She struggled, eventually failing from me pushing back against her attempts. She pouted, sitting on the bed crisscrossed. I sighed, sitting up and looking at her pout.

“Fine, I’ll get up…” I spoke, giving into her pout. A smile formed on her face as she leaned over and kissed my cheek.

“Okay, do you wanna eat out or eat here?” she asked as she stood up, stretching her arms out as she yawned.

“Well since we’re going out anyway I guess we can eat out,” I replied as I got out of bed slowly.

“Okay, I’m gonna go get dressed,” she said, walking over to the dresser where she finally unpacked all of her clothes and grabbed some blue jeans, a white tank-top, and a black zip-up sweatshirt. She walked out of the bedroom, giving me a quick smile and then walking towards the bathroom.

I smiled back at her, walking slowly over to the duffle bag that I had yet to unpack and grabbing some clothes out of it. I threw on some black jeans, a grey t-shirt that had a black paint-like music symbol on the front of it, and a black hoodie that had fake blood splatters on it. I rubbed my eyes, running my fingers through my hair in an attempt to make it look decent, but it only looked like I hadn’t gotten a haircut in over a year...which was true I haven’t…

I walked out of the bedroom and into the living room, seeing Halo already dressed with her hair in a neat ponytail. She looked over and smiled at me, going over and grabbing her bag and looking back at me.

“You ready?” she asked happily with a smile.

“Yeah, I’m ready,” I replied, giving her back a small smile. I looked down, avoiding eye-contact from her even though deep down I knew I didn’t mind it...with her only though.

She smiled, walking over and kissing my cheek, then happily walking towards the door and stepping out into the apartment hallway. I grabbed my car keys from the coffee table and following her out of the apartment, locking the door behind me.

We walked down the flight of stairs, starting to walk towards the car when Halo came to a halt. I turned around, giving her a confused look.

“You coming?” I asked curiously and confused.

“Yeah I just thought we were gonna walk,” she said, fumbling with her fingers as she looked down. I looked at her and then at the car, shrugging and putting the keys into my back pocket.

“Okay, we can walk then,” I said in a light tone, walking over to her. She looked up at me, a small blush on her cheeks. I gave her a small smile, turning my gaze away and beginning to walk down the sidewalk.

“So er...since we’re know...don’t you think we should get to know each other a little better?” I asked, turning my gaze towards Halo. She looked up at me as she walked beside me, shrugging and looking in front of her.

“Yeah that makes sense,” she responded casually as we walked.

“Okay wanna start or should I?” I asked a bit awkwardly, moving my hand up to my neck and rubbing it nervously.

“You can start, I’ll go after,” she said, glancing up at me and then back in front of her.

“ food?” I asked, not being the best at the whole Q&A kind of thing, but it was a start…

“Ramen,” she answered, looking up at me. “How about you?” she asked, looking back at the sidewalk.

“Hard question…” I said truthfully. I never actually thought about that… “Anything I guess. I’m not really picky.”

“You mean there’s not anything that you’d prefer over others?” she asked with a raised eyebrow.

“Well, I mean...I guess I’m kinda a sucker for Asian food, but like I said I’m not very picky,” I answered honestly. She giggled as she looked up at me.

“You’re a very vague person,” she said while giggling.

“I mean...I can’t deny that…” I said with an agreeing shrug. She giggled, shaking her head.

“So where do you wanna eat?” she asked, looking up at me. I looked around the part of town we were in, trying to see where the best place would be.

“Well, there’s a Wendy’s...out good ol’ trusty McDonald’s...a Sonic, which by the way kinda sucks...and well that’s it…” I said, scanning the three restaurants.

“Based on that I think we know where we might go…” she said with a playful smile.

“Good ol’ trusty McDonald’s it is!” I jokingly said, a smile forming on my face. She let out a laugh, nodding at what I said.

We started walking towards McDonald’s, a small knot forming in my stomach from the bit of anxiousness I felt from coming here three days in a row.

“Hey er...could you um...order this time?” I asked nervously, fumbling with my fingers as we approached it. She giggled at me.

“Why are you too awkward to??” she teased as she smirked playfully.

“As playful as you sound yeah kinda…” I responded honestly, looking down a bit embarrassed. Wow, I just presented to a girl I like that I’m a 19-year-old guy who can’t even talk to the McDonald’s worker...way to go big-shot…

“Damian it’s fine, I’ll just order,” she said with a warm smile, walking over to the counter and ordering the same thing we did a few days before. She walked back over to me with the receipt.

“We just gotta wait for our number to be called,” she said as she approached me, leaning against one of the booths alongside me.

“Ah yes, like we’re some kind of Jew. Waiting for the number the Nazis gave us to be called so we can be thrown in the oven like we’re a goddamn Turkey,” I joked, not really knowing why I chose THAT to be my joke but what’s done is done. She looked up at me with a raised eyebrow and laughed, shaking her head.

“That was wrong on so many levels,” she said while laughing.

“The story of my life,” I playfully said, when really I was only half-joking. She laughed again, shaking her head more as she turned her attention in front of her.

“I get that,” she said as her laughing slowed. The worker called our number, Halo walking up to the counter and grabbing the bag of food, and beginning to walk out the door. I followed her out, feeling the knot in my stomach begin to untie as we began walking away.

“Thank god, I hate the inside of that place,” I said, glancing behind me at the McDonald’s that was beginning to grow smaller and smaller in the distance.

“You really do hate people don’t you?” Halo asked with a small laugh.

“I don’t hate people, I just don’t like interacting with them,” I said, glancing up and seeing some people staring at us. The knot in my stomach began to retie, my attention focused on the ground as I began to chew on the inside of my cheek. “...I just get so awkward…”

“That’s called being socially awkward,” Halo started, walking closer to me and pulling my head up so I was facing the outside world and not the ground. “I have it in a way too, but I just try and suck it down.”

“I’ve tried doing that...there’s just too many people…” I said, looking down but feeling her move my head back up.

“You’ll be fine. I bet ninety percent of the people here could care less who you are or why you’re here,” she said be honest, that did kinda help…

“So you wanna eat at a bench and then get our ice cream?” I asked, quickly changing the subject because I felt selfish for even having us talk about me for so long.

“A bench is fine,” she said, walking over to one of the park benches that we were passing and happily sitting on it. She kicked her legs up and down as she sat as if she were a little kid. I smiled at her child-like behavior, walking over and sitting beside her.

“Here you go,” she said, handing me my food.

“Thank you,” I said, taking it and beginning to eat it. She smiled, nodding and then taking her food out and beginning to eat her food.

“Hey! Where’d one of my fries g-” Halo started, then looked up at me with squinted eyes. “Did you take one of my fries?” she asked suspiciously.

“Pfft! No!” I said in defense...I did take her fry…

“I don’t believe you!” she said, then looking at my thing of fries with her eyes squinted still. She smirked, taking a handful of them and taking off running with her arms out behind her. “YOU’LL NEVER CATCH ME ALIVE!” she yelled childishly with a laugh.

“Is that right?!” I called back, setting the food down and getting up, standing behind the bench where the backrest was, crossing my arms with a smirk on my face. She looked over at me, raising her eyebrow and walking back over to me.

“Why aren’t you chasing me?” she asked confused. I smirked more.

“Because I already caught you!” I said with a smirk, wrapping my arms around her waist and yanking her close to me, picking her up. She yelped, giggling and kicking her legs out in front of her.

“NO! YOU STOLE MY FRY!” she yelled while giggling. “PUT ME DOWN!”

“No!” I said back while smiling. She pouted, then smirked and kicked more, letting out a blood-curdling scream. I set her down at the scream, looking at her confused as to why she was screaming so loud. She looked up at me with a smirk.

“I knew you’d let me go!” she said smirking, giggling, and going back over to in front of the bench and continuing to eat her food. I shook my head, laughing slightly.

“You’re one stubborn, sneaky girl,” I said with a smile, walking over to the front of the bench and continuing to eat my food as well. She smirked, turning her gaze to me.

“That I am!” she said in agreement, a smile on her face as she finished her food. I finished up mine, looking at her as I grabbed the remaining trash and put it in the trashcan beside the bench. I dusted my hands off, beginning to walk down the sidewalk with her by my side.

“You know in comparison to me and you height-wise, to everyone else I’m like your average middle school girl and you’d be a full-grown man,” she pointed out, looking up at me with a smirk.

“Better hope I don’t have candy then,” I joked with a smile. She giggled, looking back in front of her.

“You and your dark humor!” she said with a laugh. I smiled, looking at her and then in front of me.

“It’s not dark if there’s the light of humor to it!” I pointed out, causing her to think for a second. She let out another giggle, shaking her head like she had done the other times.

“You’re a weirdo,” she said while shaking her head.

“That I am!” I agreed jokingly. I smiled, looking in front of me as we walked towards the ice cream shop. My mind cycled through thoughts, mainly about her. I smiled the more I thought...god was I glad to have her…

We began to approach the ice cream shop, my gaze focused on the ground as we walked.

“So wanna order?” I asked in a tone that said: Can you please order? She let out another giggle and walked up to the ice cream guy.

She ordered what she wanted, looking over at me with a curious look. I told her what I wanted, looking down awkwardly as my hair fell over my face. After a minute she came over with our ice creams and held mine out to me.

“Here you go,” she said with a smile. I smiled back at her, taking the ice cream and moving my hair out of my face.

“Thank you…” I said thankfully, turning around and starting to eat it. She smiled, starting to eat hers as we began walking down the sidewalk.

My ice cream began dripping, getting all over my hoodie, hands, and face. I tried wiping it off with my dry and clean didn’t work out. I heard Halo laughing beside me, looking at my mess like I was a little kid. I looked at her with a small pout.

“I can’t help it! It’s too hot out here!” I complained. She shook her head while laughing, taking a napkin, and wiping the ice cream I had spilled all over me.

“It’s fine, you’re like a little kid,” she said with a smile, looking up at me.

“I know…” I said, turning my gaze downward. I finally finished my ice cream, slipping my hands into my now sticky hoodie as I pouted while looking down.

“Wanna go home now?” Halo asked as she looked up at me. “It’s like 3:15 and I thought we might wanna get a movie in before we got dinner.”

“Sounds amazing!” I said, mainly since I was praying we’d go home ever since the whole messy, ice cream thing. She giggled, walking close beside me as we started to head home.

I smiled, slipping one of my sticky hands into hers. She smiled, interlocking her fingers with mine despite my hand feeling like glue. I looked down with a blush, not really used to people being this nice to me. Every time I was with Halo...I got this euphoric she was the one...the only one I needed…

I was so glad to have her.
