Chapter 50

“Mmm, to come to this apartment and find you laying here still in your robe, makes me incredibly happy. Are you awake, sweetheart?” I kiss her forehead.

“Yes, I set my alarm for two. What time is it?”

“Two.” I laugh when her alarm goes off.

“You’re home early.” She smiles and pats our bed. “Am I getting dress, or are you going to get in bed with me?” She smiles a flirty smile.

I sit down beside her, lift her to hold her tight against me.

“I love it when you say home, Annie. You are my home. No matter what building we live in, in whatever city, now or in the future, you are my very first home, Annie. I get what Dad meant when he told me to remember, a person is the only home that matters. Yes, I understood what he meant at the time, but I didn’t feel it. Now I do. I feel it, Annie, in every part of my being. I love, accept, adore, respect, and cherish every moment we spend together. Marry me, Annie, let me be your forever home?”

She sniffles and wraps her arms around me. “I love you so much, Jackson. Yes, yes, yes, I’ll marry you, but I need to fill you in on some things first.”

“I spoke with Ben about Mom, I know.”

She giggles. “I can’t believe we missed it, bad luck, huh?”

Christ, she’s pretty. “We’re going to have nothing, but good luck from here on out, sweetheart.” I kiss her softly.

“I bought into the bakery, Jack.” She rushes out like she’s nervous to tell me.

I kiss her again. “That’s good baby, if that makes you happy, then it makes me happy, sweetheart. I love you.”

“I love you too, Jackson.”
