Eyes in the Woods

I could feel everything in me die, felt like the light from my body fade away.

I saw nothing behind my tears just felt Elijah’s arms around me.

We sat there for a moment as I still cried in his arms.

I heard Charles’s footsteps getting closer.

I finally tear my eyes from looking at the floor and look up at Charles, who looked like a complete wreck.

His hair was tousled, his clothes and hands stained with blood.

I’ve never seen him cry before until today, he was always the strongest out of the two of us.

Elijah helped me off of the ground, I clung to him.

I looked to Charles, he pulled me by my neck into a warm embrace.

I cried softly into his shoulder, staring out at nothing.

He rubbed my back to try and comfort me but nothing could help ease the pain growing inside me.

Maria- I need to see him.

Charles-Luna, please

Maria- No, I need to see him. I need to hold him.

She pushed past Charles and the guards and headed out of the castle.

She could see Guards circled together near the forest and ran towards the woods.

She could hear Charles and the guards behind her, calling her name but she ignored them.

Tears streamed down her face as she picked up her gown, the wind blowing through her hair.

With every stride getting closer to the forest.

The Guards disperse as maria pushed her way through.

There he was lying still and covered in blood.

Maria crouched down, leaning towards him.

Gently pushing the hair away from his face, his skin still tanned and flushed.

She brought him closer to her, holding him tightly.

Sobbing on his chest, kissing his head repeatedly.

Maria- Please wake up. Please, please. Wake up. Don’t leave me, you promised you’ll never leave me.

Maria now covered in his blood, her hands stained. She let out a crying scream as she looked at his body.

She rocked him back and forth, praying he would wake up.

The Castle guards grabbed her arms, trying to pull her off the body.

Maria screamed out, refusing to leave her brother’s side. Kicking and pushing the guards to let her go.

Charles grabbed her and carried her back inside the castle.

Maria hitting his back, begging him to let her go. Tears pouring down her face as she begged.

The image of her brother stuck in her mind, covered in blood.

Charles letting her down, she pushed him back.

Wiping the tears from her face with her sleeves, still weeping.

She stared in horror at the blood on her hands, looking out at Charles who just stared blankly at her.

Charles-(softly) Elijah, Please take her to her room maybe your company will consul her.

Elijah carrying her off to her room, her eyes growing tried from the crying.

She laid her head on his chest, trying to calm her breathing.

Elijah- I got you, I am here.

****

Elijah laid her down on her bed, covering her with blankets.

Maria- Please stay with me, I don’t want to be alone.

Elijah climbed onto the other side of the bed, maria snuggling up into his chest.

****

Charles-How can this happen? These grounds are supposed to be safe. I want guards patrolling in and out of the castle. There is an animal on the loose.

They took Maria’s brother’s body to be examined to determine his cause of death.

Charles went to his Mother’s, Catherine, advisor, and healer who can help find out what happened.

Nostradamus- By looking at his injuries, I am afraid he bleed to death. There are bruises throughout his body. But what I find odd is that it appears to be bite marks on his neck.

Charles-Bite marks?

Elijah’s POV:

As Maria slept on my chest, I listened to the King’s conversation. Something is not right, there is more to her brother’s death. She deserves to know the truth.

Nostradamus- By looking at his injuries, I am afraid he bleed to death. There are bruises throughout his body. But what I find odd is that it appears to be bite marks on his neck.

Charles- Bite Marks?

It can’t be.

Another Vampire?

It can’t be one of us, my brothers know we can’t expose ourselves. Rebecca cares too much about Maria to do something so dreadful.

Then What did?

Or Who?

I’ve been watching them for weeks especially her.

They’ve taken a liking to her. To what she sees in them is beyond me.

They are abominations, they deserve to burn, you do not reason with them, or change them. You erase them!

When the time comes, I will take everything from them.

Her brother was the first.
