Chapter NINE

She kissed his lips once.

Three times as she held his cheeks in her palms. When Nadia pulled back, she stared into Kingston’s eyes and smiled.

“I’m fine baby. I promise,” she hummed and Kingston just screwed his eyes shut and shook his head slowly. He was being pessimistic as worry ate at his bones.

“I love you,” he mumbled as a single tear slid down his cheek.

Nadia was back in the hospital and it was all his fault. The doctor said she had gotten too worked up and was not receiving enough oxygen, which caused her to pass out temporarily. It was good news, yet Kingston felt no relief. He kneeled in front of Nadia as they waited for her release papers. Nadia ran her fingers through Kingston’s hair in hopes of soothing him. They had been at the hospital for a day and were ready to go and get the twins from Brittney.

“Alright guys Nadia is free to go,” the nurse said as she handed them the release papers.

“Do I know you?” Nadia blurted out causing the nurse to turn around. Her blonde hair flipped over her shoulder, as blue eyes met Nadia’s quizzical glare. Kingston felt like he had seen her before but he wasn’t sure where. The nurse gave them a look they couldn’t decipher before smiling an eerie smile and stating that she was sure she didn’t know them. When she left the room Nadia and Kingston looked at each other for a moment but let the weird exchange go.

On the way home Kingston stayed as quiet as a mouse. He never once glanced at Nadia and she was feeling the rejection in the pit of her stomach. When they pulled up to the house, Kingston shut off the SUV but when Nadia moved to get out, he stopped her with a hand on her wrist.

“What?” Nadia croaked as she fought the tears. She just wanted to go the fuck inside and waddle in pity.

“I want to take you on a date. If that’s alright with you,” Kingston said as he scratched the back of his neck. He felt very unsure of himself, but he knew he wanted to wine and dine the woman he loved.

“You just gave me the cold shoulder the whole ride from the hospital and now you’re asking me on a date? I don’t fucking—” Her rant was cut off with a smoldering kiss. Kingston gripped the back of her neck and kissed her like he loved her, which he did, more than anything in the world. When he pulled away, he adjusted Nadia’s oxygen cord as he bit down on his bottom lip from nerves.

“I’m so sorry. I was just thinking about the proper way to ask you and the guilt was eating at me. I love you Nadia, and I think it’s time I show you better.”

Kingston stared into Nadia’s eyes and caught the single tear that slipped from them. When she smiled, he felt his heart fluttering.

“Yeah, I’d love to go on a date with you.”

Kingston had just thrown on his blazer when his phone rang. He walked over to his dresser and looked down to see who it was. When he saw Octavius’ name flash across the screen he quickly picked up.

“Talk to me,” he said as he fixed his hair in the large floor to ceiling mirror. It was time for a haircut but Nadia begged him not to get one. Saying she wanted to see him with long hair and Kingston would do anything for that woman.

“We got some new details about the shooting. Supposedly your nanny wasn’t hired by the same company Mom found Nadia. Instead, she consulted with an outside source who recommended the woman. I have copies of their emails. She stated that the older woman was the right person for the job. So, if you ask me, it seems Mom has been up to some shady shit.”

“Who is this outside source she consulted with?” Kingston asked as he slipped on his watch.

“That I am still working on, but Mother isn’t too happy with us snooping in her business.”

“Her business?” Kingston said like it was the most ridiculous thing he’d ever heard. His mother had no “business.” Everything she owned was because of their father. Her dutiful husband, who seemed to despise the evil woman more, and more as the years went on. “Last time I checked, the only thing she had to worry about was if Gucci is coming out with a new purse collection this year.” The brothers laughed at that before quickly getting serious.

“Well brother, enjoy your date tonight. I’ll work on finding out who this woman is that mother consulted with, while you try to get laid,” Octavius said making Kingston laugh.

“How’d you know I had a date tonight?” Kingston questioned as he put on his cufflinks.

“Nadia called and Sasha started screaming like a pre-teen. I thought she was dying but when I went to check on her, she was jumping up and down. She’s excited for the two of you. More for you than Nadia. She thought you were going to fuck up a good thing, and she’s happy you didn’t.”

“Tell her I said thanks and hug Pharaoh and the twins for us,” Kingston said before the brothers said their goodbyes at the same moment Nadia came out of the bathroom. Her beautiful complexion held a slight hint of red and her face was flushed from the steam.

“You look good babe,” Kingston said as he walked over to Nadia. She was only in a towel, her curly hair wet flowing down her back.

“Shut up,” Nadia giggled as Kingston began to nuzzle her neck. He kissed her repeatedly on her cheeks causing her to laugh.

“I’ll never stop telling you how beautiful you are.”

“Oh really?” Nadia basically purred as she snaked her arms around Kingston’s neck.

“Mmmm, indeed.”

“Mr. Moore, are you trying to get into my pants?”

“It depends, baby. Is it working?” Kingston hummed as he kissed her lips tenderly. Sucking her bottom lip into his mouth, he felt himself harden when she whimpered.

“The doctor said not for another week,” Nadia panted as she tightened her arms around his neck in order to kiss her man harder. She reveled in the feeling of their lips moving together. It felt so real, so right she wanted more of it. No, she needed it, all the time.

For the rest of her life.

“I love you Kingston.”

“I love you too baby, now go get ready. Our reservation is in an hour.”

Nadia finished getting dressed and called Mrs. Moore to check on the twins.

“Your mother is a total bitch to me,” she said as she hung up the phone. Kingston was silent behind her, and the women knew he was distracted by the skintight dress that hugged her momentarily small curves.

“Damn,” Kingston mumbled into her neck as he came up and wrapped his arms around Nadia’s waist. He was careful not to squeeze too hard, but he held her hard enough to convey his approval for her outfit, and how beautiful he thought she was in it.

“I’m the luckiest man in the fucking world,” he said into Nadia’s neck. He felt her shudder and smirked at her reaction to him.

“Did you not hear me you horny bastard?” Nadia said with a smile on her face. “I let a woman who talks to me like I’m the scum of the earth, watch my babies.”

“Our babies,” Kingston corrected. “And just do what Sasha does.”

“And what is that?” Nadia asked as she turned in Kingston’s arms.

“Pretend she does not exist. Now get your oxygen tank, and let’s go eat.”

“I’m not going to wear my tank. I don’t feel like it matches my outfit.”

Kingston stiffened and pulled back to look Nadia in the face.

“Are you sure? I don’t think that’s—”

“Kingston please. I will be fine. We can take it with us just in case, but I’m not walking into De’Villes with a damn oxygen tank. Now come on. Let’s go.”

Kingston had known Nadia long enough to know that there was no arguing with her. He picked up the oxygen tank and watched as Nadia left the room. Her hips swaying seductively in her beautiful dress. Her hair straightened down her back. She was a sexy minx.

His minx.
