Chapter Fifty Five
Three months later
On Monday I received the best phone call, Evan could come home on Saturday. The excitement and happiness inside my body was like no other, I couldn’t wait to squeeze the fuck out of him.
To know how he was doing, how he’s been feeling.
I honestly felt like these last few months would have been unbearable, don’t get me wrong, they were extremely hard but I came out on the other side.
Our pack grew strong, we went on team building retreats, we spent a lot more time together. Getting to know each other and laughing continuously, looking out for one another and caring deeply. I finally was the Alpha I had always dreamed of, my pack trusted me and have been completely loyal to me. We’ve grown not just as individuals but as one, together.
We all took time out of training to do different hobbies that we also enjoyed, my heart wanted to paint and draw until I had no resources or brain capacity left. I missed letting my emotions go free and express myself in a way that only I can understand. So I’ve been painting, a lot.
Zara has been baking and Felix has been learning the guitar, although he isn’t quite the rock star he thinks he is. But that’s what I loved, how individual we all are. Even though we are werewolves, we also have personalities and our own originality. We all deserve an escape from our lives, from our minds. I couldn’t encourage this enough and everyone has loved it. Sharing their hobbies and interests with each other and showing appreciation for it.
I never thought a pack could be so in sync than what ours is right now and I never want it to change.
Felix spoke to me about a therapist and I knew Evan recommended to speak to someone as well. So I went to a therapist for the first time and spoke about my emotions to a complete stranger and it felt good, better than I expected.
After a few weeks my thoughts began to clear and all I could think of was positivity, being with Evan and growing with my pack. I still have my days but who doesn’t? It’s taught me to appreciate the things I have and to hold onto everyone who is close to me.
The last few months have been good but I know it will be magical when Evan comes home today.
Ava had planned a little surprise at their house with his favourite food, nothing too over the top because we all knew he wouldn’t want to be overwhelmed. Jaxon had agreed to pick him up whilst the rest of us waited at their pack house.
Words couldn’t even describe how much my stomach was twisting into knots, I’ve felt nervous before but it doesn’t even have a touch on this. My palms becoming sweaty and my brain beginning to pulsate with overthinking.
Ava had organised everyone to be waiting by the stairs for Evan to come in, she respected that we would want time alone so she told me to wait in the kitchen which I was grateful. She said it would be more special if it was just us two and I knew that she would understand.
The kitchen was full of food and drinks, light music playing in the background. I hear Ava ‘shhh’ everyone in the hall, Jaxon telling her that they were outside.
My back leans against the fridge as I listen out for the front door. The knob turns and everyone yells out ‘welcome home’ followed by clapping and cheering.
I couldn’t hear or smell him yet but my skin itched to have him close, I’ve been dreaming of it.
They fumble around in the hall for a few moments, the sounds of mild talking could be heard. My skin raises in goosebumps knowing he was so close but I had to keep patient.
“Where’s Caleb?” His voice bounces off the walls.
My body shudders at his words, his voice, the sound of my name rolling off his tongue. Fuck.
No one says anything until I hear small footsteps towards the kitchen. For the first split second I see him, his eyes looking in the other direction. I wanted to melt into the floor at the sight of him.
His brown curls as natural as ever with his titanium nose ring, dressed in a red flannel shirt with a white t-shirt and ripped black jeans. His shoulders looked broader from before, he looked bigger, he looked healthy. His body and face filled out comfortably, like he was in his skin properly for the first time.
Evan’s complexion looked fresh and his bright blue eyes full of life, his skin no longer pale but vibrant and glowing beautifully. Everything about him looked so effortlessly flawless.
I forget to take a breath as I drink in his appearance. Never did I think I could find him anymore attractive but right now, he completely proved me wrong.
“Hey handsome,” the words slip off my lips so easily.
Evan’s eyes snap to mine and the biggest smile stretches out on his face. My heart clenches at the sight, bloody pumping round my body aggressively.
“Caleb,” he breathes out, his smile never fading.
I push off of the fridge and walk towards him, Evan meets me in the middle. When my arms wrap around his body, my skin tingles against his and everything heats up. Evan lets out a sign into my chest and it allows me to fully relax into him.
Pulling back to hold his gorgeous face in my hands, his eyes beam up to me and happiness radiates through him. “You have no idea how glad I am to see you,” I say before smiling.
Evan breaks out into a grin. “I’ve been so excited to see you too,”
“How are you?” I ask enthusiastically. “You look so well, you look so fucking gorgeous,”
A small laugh ripples through his chest before he closes his eyes and lets my words sink in. “Thank you,” he nods up at me. “I’m good, I’m really good. I’m happy.”
My cheeks sting from smiling too hard. I lower my forehead down onto his, our skin lightly connecting. “God, all I want is to see you happy,” I say honestly.
“Well now we can focus on us, like I told you before,” Evan says as he blinks gently, his dark lashes brushing against his cheek.
“I can’t wait,” I say as I pull his face closer and leave a lingering kiss on his plump pink lips.
Evan presses his lips to mine harder than I expected, as he gently caresses me with his lips in a soft sweet kiss.
“Are you guys done with the lovey-dovey shit now?” Jaxon calls out from the hall and Evan pulls away as he chuckles softly.
“Shut up Jax,” Ava hisses at him and I can almost sense Jaxon roll his eyes at her.
I pull away from Evan but latch onto his little fingers as they wrap around mine. “Yes Jaxon, we are done,” Evan says confidently before they all flood into the kitchen.
Ava’s brown eyes find us as she grins and claps, excitement getting the better of her. “Oh my God,” she chirps to Evan. “I’m so glad you’re home, I’ve missed you so much.”
I can see Evan’s heart melt from his facial expressions. “I missed you too,” he nods back at her.
Evan quickly drops my hand and leans forward to hug Ava close. “I’ve had to watch keeping up with the Kardashian’s alone and boy, Jax could barely get through one episode,” she mumbles into his ear as her hand gently rubs his back.
His body vibrates as he laughs at her words. “I know, it’s not the same is it?”
Ava pulls back and keeps her hands on his shoulders. “Oh my God, have you been keeping up with it?” She asks in disbelief.
Evan grins widely. “Yeah of course I have, what else would I be watching?”
She claps her hands in front of her body, her hair bouncing. “Wow, we have so much to discuss,”
“Let me check on Aurora, I’ll be right back,” Ava nods towards us and slips away.
Evan turns back around to me, his hand leaning onto to the counter beside me. “Are you okay?” I question.
He hums gently before glancing up at me. “Yeah,” he breathes out. “It’s just been a while since I’ve had anyone make this much of a fuss of me,”
I wanted to frown but I stop myself before he could see. “Well you should get used to it because you’re very important to a lot of people here,” my fingers grasp his and I run my thumb over the back of his hand. “And you’re very important to me and I’m never not going to make a fuss.”
Evan squeezes onto my hands, light tingles running up my arm. We both stare at each other for a few moments, I wanted to grab him and kiss him. Every inch of his perfect body.
“I’ve got a surprise for us later,” I break our silence.
He quirks an eyebrow at me. “A surprise for us?” He questions sounding confused.
“Yeah, I think it’s going to do both of us so much good,” I tell him honestly. “Especially after not seeing each other for so long.”
“Okay,” Evan grins brightly up to me. “I’m excited,”
“You should be,” I say as I raise my eyebrows once and his eyes light up even more. “Maybe you should go socialise, I don’t want to keep you from everyone. I know Kayleigh was about to wet herself earlier about seeing you,”
Evan laughs deeply, so deeply he almost stumbles back. I catch his waist and hold him up and I knew I would never get tired of hearing that laugh and seeing that smile. “That sounds about right coming from her,”
“Too right,” I say as I close my eyes for a brief second.
“Okay, I see them,” he says as he glances around the room and notices Kayden and Kayleigh standing by the sink. “I’ll come see you in a bit,”
I nod towards him as he takes a few steps backwards, when Kayleigh finally turns in his direction her eyes light up and she embraces him into the biggest hug. The smile on my face remains as I watch him converse with them, he genuinely seemed so happy and that was something I’d never want to lose.
“How’s it going?” Jaxon says as he leans on the counter beside me.
My hand leans up to grip onto his shoulder. “Hey man,” I smile. “Good, I’m glad he’s home,”
“You and me both, I think Ava was about to lose it,” Jaxon says as he folds his arms over his chest. “How have you been? I feel like we haven’t seen each other in a while,”
My head begins to nod. “I know, I’ve been spending so much time with my pack and rebuilding our connection. We all needed to get to know each other better and it’s been great and I’m finally the person who I’ve wanted to be to my pack,”
“Man that sounds so good, I’m so proud of you. And I’m so pleased for you, I know these last few months must have been hard but the fact you’ve been trying to better yourself and your pack is just amazing. You’ve really grown as a person, you know that?” Jaxon says as he moves to stand in front of me.
My eyes scan his face and all I wanted to do was hug him, so I did. “You have no idea how much that means to me,” I say as I pat my hand down onto his back.
“We need to be positive and optimistic, we’ve all gone through the worst shit and now it’s time to fucking live,” Jaxon says deeply and I can’t help but laugh.
“Absolutely,” I agree. “I can’t wait to live a normal werewolf life.”
“Don’t jinx it now,” he warns me jokingly as he pulls away.
I shrug before nodding. “I guess I wouldn’t change it for the world.”
