"What's happening?" I sleepily asked as I sat up from London's warm lap.
"And all of a sudden, I feel cold," London joked, smiling at me with a lazy smile that I returned," We're about to land, Baby and you need to buckle your seatbelt."
"Oh," I said in realisation before grabbing the belt buckles and buckling them together." Is Emma still asleep?"
"Yes, dead just like her mother was a couple of seconds ago." He winked, making me tiredly chuckle at him.
"Yeah yeah." I smiled before laying my head on his shoulder and placing my hand on his thigh.
"Still very sleepy, my lovely Baby." He cooed, placing a kiss on my cheek before wrapping me up in his arms, making his heat flow into my body and make me even sleepier than I already was.
"Very sleepy." I admitted.
"Passengers, we'll be landing shortly, please fasten your seatbelts and get ready to land." Matthew's voice came through the intercoms again.
I spent the rest of the time drowsing on his lap until we had to get off the jet.
We unbuckled our seatbelts before London went to fetch Emma from the bedroom.
"Miss Williams, I hope the trip was to your liking?" Asked Samantha as she smiled at me.
"It was, thank you as always, Samantha." I smiled before looking behind her at London's approaching figure," I'll be seeing you soon then?"
"Of course," She reassured," Have a lovely trip." With a slight bow, she was on her way.
"Ready to go?" Asked London with a sleepy Emma in his arms.
"Yep." I said, trying to stifle a yawn.
"My poor Loves." He cooed, looking at Emma then I.
"Don't you wanna give us piggy bag rides to the car?" I pouted, getting up from my seat.
"I would Baby, but people would think I've drugged you and am kidnapping you." He smiled in amusement.
"Oh well, it was worth the try." I shrugged with a lazy smile.
London chuckled at me with a shake of his head before pressing a kiss to my cheek. We headed down the hall and to the opening. We headed down the stairs where we were greeted with two flight hostesses.
"We hope you had a great flight, Miss Williams." The new flight attendant smiled with a slight bow of her head.
"Thank you..." I paused as a way to ask her for her name.
"Jane, Miss." She politely answered.
"Thanks Jane. I had a pleasant flight and thanks to you Miss?" I smiled at the hostess that has helped us throughout the flight.
"Whitney, Miss." She politely replied.
"Thank you for all your assistance and service, Whitney. I really appreciate it and apologies for the inappropriate position earlier." I apologized.
"It's alright, Miss Williams." She shyly said as redness creeped up her neck.
"Baby, I think we should go before you kill Miss Whitney. Thank you Ladies." London smiled before taking my hand and guiding me to the car that awaited us.
All three of us got in the back before we took off. We drove for about an hour and thirty minutes before we reached a one floor, medium sized, cream painted home. There was no gate and the neighbourhood was the epitome of peace except for the playing children in their yards. The grass was green and healthy, showing constant watering. The garden and tree at the corner a beauty, making it look mystical.
My door suddenly opened and a cool breeze brushed past me, instantly making me feel at peace.
"Miss." Our arranged driver said, offering me a hand.
"Thank you." I politely smiled, taking the offered hand and slipping out of the car.
London suddenly appeared at my side with Emma stuck to his hip in his arms.
"Ready?" He asked, looking at his childhood home with a look that showed how he was reminiscing about his memories here.
"Yes, as long as you are." I encouraged, lightly brushing my hand on his shoulder before folding my hands infront of me.
He turned to me with the largest boyish grin I'd ever seen from him. He stole a brief kiss from my lips before taking my hand with his unoccupied one.
"Wait, I think Emma and I should stay in the car. When you're done, you can call us or we'll go stay at a hotel." I softly suggested.
"But-" He paused before sighing," Okay, but if you have to stay at a hotel then so will I. We're family after all." He smiled.
"That we are." I smiled.
He smiled back at me before handing Emma to me, who was entranced by the new surroundings. My poor Darling was in wonder until she noticed that she was suddenly closer to the floor and in my arms.
"Daddy?" She questioned.
"I'll be right back, Baby Girl. " He reassured, pressing a kiss onto her forehead.
I let out a shaky sigh full of nerves before turning to Lenora and Emma who were entering the car. I honestly wanted them both at my side but I get Lenora's unsaid concerns.
I turned around and headed up the path that I had nearly forgotten. It's been a while since I used this paved pathway. The last time I had walked on it, I was storming out of the house in rage, stubbornness and unnecessary blindness. The memories just make my blood run cold in shame.
I finally reached the door after what felt like hours of walking up. I let out a shaky breath before daring to knock at the door.
I waited for a couple of excruciatingly long seconds before the door opened to someone I had not heard from nor seen in five years. The look of happiness and disbelief as tears clouded my ears twinned mine for sure.
"London." My sister softly said in disbelief.
"Hey Rain." I greeted with a smile.
Before I knew it, my sister had jumped in my arms as she softly sobbed.
I secured her in my arms as silent tears left my own eyes.
"Where have you been? Why haven't you contacted us in all these years?" She asked as she wiped her tears away from her cheeks after moving away from me.
"I'm sorry, Ray. I just couldn't... not after what I did." I said, ducking my head and looking down in shame.
"That doesn't matter, Donnie. That was your choice and as much as Mom and I didn't agree with it, we accepted it and respected it." She softly assured.
"Mom and you were right, Ray. She was a sneaky, manipulative woman. She didn't care about me at all, she just used me as a pawn in her game. I should have listened to Mom and you." I admitted, running my hand through my hair.
"It. Doesn't. Matter." She slowly pressed on each word," All that matters is that you're back."
I nodded and smiled at her before lightly chuckling and saying," Sometimes you act more like the older sibling, you know? At that time, you're a whole six years younger than me."
"They do say that girls grow quicker in terms of mental wisdom than boys." She giggled.
"Rain," I softly said," I want Mom and you to meet some very important people to me, but first I need to talk to Mom too. Where is she?"
"Umm, Mom's not here." She cautiously said,"Come in first. You'll need to sit down for this."
"Rain," I warned," Where's Mom?"
"London," She fidgeted before running her hand through her identical jet black curls," Can we please sit down for this?"
"Fine." I sighed turning around to face the car, just to feel Rain's eyes follow my vision.
"London, who's car in that?" She questioned with an edge to her tone.
A smile instantly laced my thoughts at the thought of Emma and Lenora.
"Follow me." I said before heading towards the car just for Lenora to get out of the car with Emma on her hip.
"London." Rain said with scepticism.
"Hey, are you alright?" Asked Lenora with a look of slight concern as she looked at me then Rain.
"Yeah, I'm good Baby," I aasured, walking to her side just for Emma to excitedly reach her arms out in my direction.
"Daddy!" She enthusiastically called.
From my peripheral vision, I could see Rain look at me in confusion and disbelief.
"Hey Baby Girl," I cooed, placing a kiss onto her cheek before she laid her head on my shoulder." Rain, this is my girlfriend Lenora and our daughter, Emani, whom we all call Emma." I introduced," Baby, Emma, this is my little sister, Rain."
Lenora and Rain walked to each other before shaking hands. Rain seemed to be scanning over Lenora as if she recognised her from somewhere, which makes sense cause I'm sure she has. Lenora has never failed to be apart of Business articles.
"Do I know you from somewhere?" Asked Rain with a look of complete concentration.
Lenora sent me a quick look as if to ask for permission.
I smiled encouragingly.
"Yes, I think so. I'm Lenora Williams." Lenora smiled.
"You're right," Rain said in recognition," How did my older brother end up dating you?"
"Well, that's a story for another day for now, please tell me about Mom?" I asked, all joy removed from my face and replaced with worry.
"Well, how about I tell you over a cup of tea or juice? You're gonna need it." She softly sighed.
"Daddy, is your sissy mean?" Emma whispered, making me lightly chuckle.
"Not all all my little, Princess. Why?" I asked.
"Does she like me?" She whispered again.
"Yes, Baby. She does, who can ever resist this cute face of yours?" I cooed, tickling her sides with my unoccupied hand. She immediately squealed and broke into fits of giggles, gaining us the attention of Lenora and Rain who both looked at me with soft smiles.
"Well, atleast I have a niece now and man does she look adorable. May I?" I heard her ask Lenora.
"Sure, you don't need to ask." Lenora assured.
Rain suddenly appeared next to me, making Emma turn to her shyly but in wonder and curiousity.
"You're so pretty." Emma giggled.
"Awe," Rain swooned before looking at me," Hand me my niece Donnie. You've spent enough time with her already, now it's my turn. Come on Sweetheart, let's go have some chocolate chip cookies."
"Whoo, can I Mommy and Daddy?" She asked turning to Lenora then to me with puppy dog eyes and a pout. Manipulative ball of adorableness, she knows that I can never resist that look.
"Only a few, Emma," Lenora sternly said, saving me from the unconditional yes that I was about to say.
"Great, come on Sweetheart." Rain cooed at Emma before taking her from my arms and heading into the house with her.
"You know, you're gonna have to learn to say no to that look, actually to say no to her in general or she'll boss you around. You'll spoil her more rotten than you already are." Said Lenora with amusement dripping from her words as she came to stand next to me.
"I'm trying, but she's just too cute and manipulative." I pouted with an excuse that I know she would brush off.
"Uh-huh," She replied," You are going to have to learn sooner rather than later, my Beau."
"I know and I will." I sighed in defeat before leaning down to her short stature and planting a kiss on her temple.
"I think I'm gonna buy myself the longest pairs of stilettos from now on."She pouted, making me smile in curiousity and amusement.
"And why is that?" I asked.
"Because I'm too short. I'm basically at your waist." She pouted, making me break into laughter.
"Baby," I chuckled as I calmed down, her pout not moving. I leaned down and pressed a kiss onto her pouted lips that seemed to have become my first addiction," Baby, no. I enjoy your height, it's perfect in my eyes. Especially when you wear flats."
"Easy for you to say." She mumbled, her lips twitching in a barely contained smile.
"Come on Babe, I love your height, really, just as I love you." I tried to convince.
"I guess if you say it that way." She sighed, letting her smile show.
"Are you two lovebirds coming?" Called Rain from the door entrance before disappearing back into the house.
"Piggy back ride?" I offered.
"I thought you'd never ask." She excitedly chirped.
I chuckled at her playful antics before helping her into my back, making us share warmth. I safely secured her legs with my arms as she firmly but gently wrapped her arms around my neck.
I headed towards the door, just to feel a kiss placed on my neck then another and another. A groan like moan escaped my lips as she giggled at me knowingly.
"Babes, don't start something you can't handle." I warned.
"What if I can handle it?" She asked, making me groan at her seductive, flirty tone.
"Oh Donnie, can you make us dinner tonight? Please?" Asked Rain with Emma as back up with puppy dog eyes and all.
I let Lenora slide down my back before sighing with a nod.
"Thank you, Big Brother!" Rain enthusiastically chirped pulling me in for a hug.
"Thank you, Daddy." Emma softly smiled up at me, hugging my legs.
My heart just melted at my little girl and I asked myself how I'll ever be able to say no to her.
"London can cook?" Asked Lenora from behind me in disbelief.
"Yep, his food is always sooo goooood," Rain swooned, her look a faraway look down showing how she was going down memory lane." Didn't he tell you? Have you never tried his food?"
"No, I'm actually just learning about this today." Lenora softly but accusingly said.
"I'm sorry Baby. I completely forgot to tell you but don't listen to Rain, my food's not that good." I tried to reassure.
A quiet ting sounded before Rain ran in the direction of the kitchen with Emma at her heels.
I turned to my pouting, gorgeous girlfriend and took her hands in mine before interlocking them and softly asked," Are you upset with me, Baby?"
"Yes." She pouted.
"And how can I get my Love's forgiveness?" I asked.
"Well, you can give me a shirt of yours that I can permanently use for bed?" She smiled.
"Deal." I smiled, leaning down to press a kiss onto her lips as our interlocked hands lay inbetween us.
We broke off our kiss then I guided her to the kitchen with our interlocked hands.
I pulled the seat for her and let her sit down before sitting next to her. Emma ran into my arms and asked to sit on my lap so me being me, I allowed her to while she munched on her cookie.
"Okay Rain, I'm all ears." I sighed.
Rain sighed and turned to me before nervously biting her lip as I felt Lenora lightly squeeze our interlocked hands to show her support. I lightly squeezed it back before completely concentrating on Rain.
"Mom," She began before letting out a deep breath," Mom's in hospital...in a coma." She finished, looking at me with concern and a weak smile.
My hand in Lenora's one lost all feeling as my world seemed to stop. My heart started racing as my face paled, Lenora's panicking eyes and words disappearing through deaf ears as regret and guilt poured over like tidal waves. The only words in my mind being no no no.
Is this the price I'm paying for hurting family? For hurting my mother?
