Chapter 9: Pink Moon

Loren’s POV

A week had passed since I last saw Killian. I also had a week off from work so I was able to get a good amount of studying in. Melissa and I had our rescheduled date yesterday and I told her about Ian. She wasn’t very supportive of the idea, reminding me of what I said after I broke up with Bryce, but in the end she supported me and could not stop laughing at what happened during our date.

“Ohhh honey theres a reason why you were nick named the two beer baby in College” she snorted.

“I know!! But I was so nervous I just kept drinking and before I knew it I was staring at my bright red face in the bathroom mirror!!”

“Well you are so lucky that he is a nice guy. You better be careful, you still barely know him..” She warned. Did I ever mention that Melissa was the realistic one in the group? Because if I didn’t, i’m going to say it again.

If any of us were to last on a deserted island, it would be Melissa. I would be sitting under the tree crying while dreaming of a miracle and our other friend Emma would be tanning on the sand.

The sound of my phone ringing pulled me out of my thoughts. I looked at it to see Killian’s name on the screen and my heart skipped a beat. I hadn’t heard from him since the night after I left his place. He had told me that he was traveling to Canada for work and wasn’t sure when he would return.

I picked up the phone and before I could open my mouth to answer, he spoke.

“Hi darling,”

“Hi,” I giggled “how is Canada?”

“Wonderful, but I’m coming back home tonight. Are you free?”

“I’m getting ready for work right now but i’ll be off at 4. After that I am”

“Perfect, be ready by 7. I’ll pick you up.”

“Oh okay, where are we going?” I giggled, feeling my heart skip a beat again.

“Thats a surprise my love. All you need to worry about is making sure you are your beautiful self for me by 7 PM, no later. Which by the way shouldn’t take too long, but I don’t like to be kept waiting.” His voice deepened when he spoke that last sentence, making me miss him even more.

“I’ll be ready by then, promise!” I gleamed. As much as I didn’t want to admit it, I had thought of Killian all week.

I heard him chuckle through the phone, “Okay love, I’ll let you get back to preparing for work. See you tonight.”

“Bye!” I spoke trying to hide my excitement, clearly not working.

---

It was an easy day in the ER so I got to go home two hours early. Hopping into my Jeep, I was debating whether or not I should go to the mall and pick up something new for tonight.

I decided to just go get my eyebrows done; I didn’t have enough money for a whole new outfit. Arriving to my usual salon, I was greeted by my favorite tech.

“Hi sweetie! Come on in, i’m just finishing up with this other girl” She smiled at me. I didn’t know her name but I had been coming to her for the last 4 years. It was so hard to find an eyebrow lady after my high school years of overly waxing them. Now they were uneven but thankfully they were thick to begin with so the damage wasn’t as noticeable.

I sat in the chair and prepared myself for the 10 minutes of torture. No matter how many times I got my eyebrows threaded, I still cried like a big baby. It didn’t hurt but once she hit that one spot, the tears flowed like a waterfall.

“How are you today” She greeted once she came over to me

“Good! I’m just preparing for a date tonight so I need to make sure I look my best!”

“Oh honey now you’re pressuring me!!” She joked as she pulled out the thread.

“No such thing, you are the best in town!” I spoke causing her to laugh.

She went through the steps, eventually having me hold my eyebrows in place so she could get the arch. Once she was satisfied with her work, she held out a mirror for me to check.

As usual, they were perfect. I liked my eyebrows to be simple; keeping them thick with a subtle arch. Something that I could maintain at home for a few months.

“They are perfect! Thank you!” I spoke after admiring them.

After she applied aloe vera to the area and gently massaging my temples, I paid her and walked out. Looking at the clock I still had 4 hours until Ian came to my house.

Wait. How did he have my address? I sat trying to remember when I gave him my address. I must have given it to him that night.. Shaking off the discomfort I felt, I reminded myself of what he had said earlier and rushed to get home and prepare for the night.

Once I got home I hope into the shower. After washing my hair I put in a deep conditioner and shaved and exfoliated my legs. After I finished I wrapped my hair in a towel and walked over to my closet.

Browsing the shelves and racks, I settled on an emerald green silk dress that dropped down just below my knees; a slit going up the side of the thigh. The fabric was loose but tight in the right places, draping down at the chest. The back was open with a strand of silk criss crossing and tied to hold it together. I grabbed my camel colored coat and picked out some nude strappy heels.

Placing the items on my bed, I looked at the clock and the time was 5:30. I went back to the bathroom and blow dried my hair, curling it once it was done.

Tying my hair back, I sat at my vanity. Since the dress was so bold I went for more natural makeup. I went with a smoky brown eyeshadow with a sprinkle of gold over the lid. My eyelashes were big and bold and I chose a nude lip color. Once I brushed on some gold highlighter over my cheek bones, the look was complete.

I put on my outfit and picked out a gold necklace and my usual diamond earrings. Letting my hair down again, it draped over my shoulders and back making my exposure a little less dramatic.

Once I was ready, I looked at the clock and it was 6:30. Letting out a deep breath, I grabbed my coat and shoes and walked downstairs. I was getting nervous as time got closer to 7. I decided to sit on the couch and watch whatever could take my mind off of it. I settled on some Family Guy which was stupid enough to distract me from reality.

Thirty minutes later I heard a knock on my door. Making sure to turn the TV off, I jumped up and walked over to open it. I was only slightly embarrassed of my show of choice.

I took a deep breath as I opened the door. There stood Killian, a bouquet of beautiful blush pink roses with a white satin bow wrapped around them were in his hands. His eyes travelled from my face down to my feet, a smile forming on his lips. He was wearing a navy blue suit and brown dress shoes. His hair slicked back as usual.

Instantly grinning, I jumped forward and hugged him. I wasn’t even thinking of what I was doing but I had missed his touch for too long.

Clearly caught off guard, he let out a chuckle and wrapped his arm around me, careful not to damage the flowers. Breathing in his scent, I let go, slightly embarrassed by my inability to control myself.

“Miss me?” He looked down at me with a smirk now on his face.

“A little,” I looked down at the flowers, warmth reaching up to my cheeks. “Those are beautiful” I spoke again, smiling up at him

“Once I saw them I thought of you. To be honest I was going to get the red roses but they seemed... insufficient. These seemed more like you.”

“Thank you,” I smiled and took the flowers from him, closing the door behind me.

He walked me to a car different from his usual BMW and opened the door for me. The car was black and shiny and the windows were so dark I couldn’t even see anything inside. Once the engine came to life, the ceiling started to twinkle. Little lights randomly dispersed as if I were looking up at the night sky.

“Woah...” I whispered “I’ve never seen a car that could do this”.

Looking over at me, Killian chuckled. “Really?” he asked

“Yeah, but then again my Jeep is the nicest car I’ve ever been in so... Well actually the car I was in when Edward picked us up was the nicest” I giggled remembering that night. It seemed like it was so long ago.

“well then I need to do a better job of spoiling you” he said as he took my left hand and pulled it up to his mouth and kissed it.

“Where is Edward by the way? I thought he was your driver?”

“I gave him the weekend off. Besides, I can drive too you know” He shot me a smile.

“I know I know! Sorry! I was just wondering!” I put my hands up and started to laugh

For the remainder of the car right, I asked Killian questions about Canada and his work. He didn’t tell me his position in the company but I knew that he was in a higher spot and held a significant amount of power. He told me that his trip to Canada was only supposed to last a few days but the businessman that they were trying to make a deal with was being “an incompetent asshole” as he put it. But eventually they came to a final agreement and he was able to come home. Which was something that I definitely was not going to complain about.

“Now love, let’s not waste the night talking about work. I just spent a week concerning myself about that.” He spoke as he pulled up to an older brick building next to the water. Lights were strung around the whole building and I could see a dock wrapping around the building with tables on it. I put my flowers in the back seat as Killian got out. He handed his keys to the valet attendant and opened my door.

“Darling, did I tell you how stunning you look?” He purred into my ear as his arm made its way around my waist.

“No but the look on your face when I opened the door told me anyways,” I giggled

“Apparently I need to work on my poke face now” He laughed as we walked towards the building.

Killian opened the door and once the hostess saw him, she straightened her back and a sparkling smile developed on her face.

“Good evening Mr. East,” She spoke, not even glancing at me. “Follow me”

Ian and I followed the hostess through the crowds to a table in the back corner. We were next to a large window which gave us the view of the waterfront and the city skyline in the distance.

“Enjoy,” she spoke after placing menus in front of us, flashing another grin at Ian and walking off.

I must have been making a face at her as she walked away because I heard Ian chuckling.

“What?”

“If looks could kill, I think you would be in jail for a very long time”

“I guess I need to work on my poker face too” I looked at him and his face was now serious

“Are you jealous of that woman?” He asked now

“No? I just think it’s weird how whenever we go somewhere people only pay attention to you and not me. They don’t even look at me, it’s like i’m not here” I shrugged my shoulders. I didn’t know this woman so I had nothing to be jealous of, besides.. Killian was here with me. Not her. He didn’t even look at her.

Killian nodded in response. “Good. You have nothing to be jealous of. May I order for you tonight?” he asked and flashed a grin at me.

“Yes but don’t let me drink another bottle of wine” I reminded him

Once the waiter came to our table, Killian ordered the same thing for both of us; some fancy sounding fish with risotto and white whine.

We spent our time talking about ourselves, getting to know each other even more. As time went on, I found myself leaning in closer to him. Our food was delicious. He told me that this is the only dish that he has ordered here since he has been in Seattle. Once we finished eating, he payed the bill and stood, holding his hand out to me.

“What now?” I asked, feeling slightly rushed to leave the restaurant

“Dessert and the best view in the city,” He smiled

We walked outside as the valet attendant was getting out of Ian’s car.

“sir,” he nodded as Killian took the keys from him and opened my door.

10 minutes later we pulled into a small yet busy parking lot. There was a small building and a sign on it read “Pink moon Creamery” in neon pink writing. A long line wrapped around the building and the scent of waffles made its way to our noses.

“mmm that smells delicious” I said as I got out of the car.

“Yes and it tastes even better,” he grinned at me, bringing me past the line to the inside of the building. Everybody in line was staring at us and I made sure to keep my eyes on my feet.

“Hey man, end of the line is back there!” One guy yelled out but Killian ignored him.

Once inside one of the workers looked up at him, “Sir! I didn’t know you were coming in tonight?” Her eyes were wide open with shock but her mouth was smiling.

“Don’t worry Elizabeth, i’m not here for business. I just want some ice cream”

“Ah okay sir, what can I get for you two?”

“A scoop of the chocolate crunch for me and what do you want?” He asked looking down at me

“Ummm, Ill have a scoop of the cookies and cream”

“Good choice, thats my favorite” Elizabeth said and handed us our ice creams. Killian walked out with me behind him, the man from earlier glaring at him.

“You didn’t even pay?” I asked as some of the ice cream melted down my hand.

“Elizabeth is an old friend of mine”

“So why did she call you sir? And what did you mean by business?” I asked, slightly suspicious

“Its just an old joke” he looked at me and smiled, leaning forward and taking a bite of my ice cream.

“Hey!”

“Better hurry up, its melting all over your pretty little fingers.” He spoke and walked away

Hurrying after him, I tasted the ice cream which was, like he said earlier, the best dessert in town. It was so creamy and thick but not as sugary. The chunks of Oreos were huge and still had some crunch in them.

“So uh is this the view?” I asked while looking at the building and the people as we got back to the car.

When he didn’t answer and instead started the car, I realized that maybe it was.

“N-not that its a bad view, I was just wondering” I looked at him as he backed up

I felt him look over at me while his face was still facing the road.

“You’ll see”.
