A New Day

I woke up as the sun shined in landing on my face. I opened my eyes and noticed Jake still lying beside me as we were facing each other. His eyes were closed so I took a few moments to study his face. I traced a finger along his hairline, around his ear and down his stubble on his jaw and chin. I cupped the side of his face and gently rubbed my thumb over his eye, down the bridge of his nose and lastly over his lips. I felt a smile form on his lips and he kissed my thumb as he opened his eyes.

I went to remove my hand, but he reached up and held my hand and turned his head to kiss my palm, then my wrist, then my forearm and up to my shoulder and neck, making his way to my jaw, my cheek, my eye, my nose and finally landing his lips on mine. I smiled as he kissed me and felt him return it and then kissed me even deeper while our tongues fought for dominance. He won, again.

He pulled back to catch his breath. “Good morning,” I said.

“Good morning,” he replied. His face was still close to mine and my arm was wrapped around his neck while his was around my back. “How are you feeling this morning?”

“I’m good. Thanks to you.”

“What did I do?”

“You held me in your arms. I think I’ve had the best sleep I’ve ever had; considering...” He smiled and I returned with a smile of my own.

“Me too.”

“You too, what?”

“Had the best sleep in a very long time.”

“Oh…”

“You know something?”

“What?”

“I could get used to this.”

“Get used to what?”

“Waking up next to you.”

“Me too.” I blushed.

“You are too cute when you do that.”

“Do what?”

“Blush and shy away from me.” I blushed again and he started to chuckle. “Come on, let’s get up and get something to eat.”

He gave me his dress shirt to wear, while I was still only in my undergarments. He put on his pants and went to the bathroom. I got up, grabbed my dress and shoes, and went back to my room to use the bathroom and brush my teeth and hair. We met again in the kitchen.

He was already making the batter to make pancakes. I grabbed the syrup, plates and silverware and set them on the island. While he was standing in front of the stove after pouring the first set of pancakes, I came up behind him and slid my hands around his waist and pressed a kiss in the middle of his back. “I don’t know where this courage has come from, but it feels right,” I thought.

He placed one hand over my arms and rubbed them back and forth. “You don’t want these to burn, do you?”

“No.” He laughed and I let him go.

“I could listen to that all day.”

“What?” he asked looking over his shoulder.

“You, laughing. It’s a beautiful sound to me and for some reason, I don’t think it’s something you do very often.”

“It’s not. In fact, I think you are the only person I’ve ever laughed in front of.”

“Really? Not even your mom or sister?”

“No, not even them.”

“Wow, you are pretty serious then. You must be a tough boss to work for.” I stated.

“I guess you could say that. Let’s just say, you don’t want to piss me off at work, or anywhere else for that matter.”

“I’ll keep that in mind.” I chuckled.

He finished the pancakes and set them on a plate on the island and took a few for his own plate. I grabbed a couple for myself and poured syrup all over them and dug in. Jake did the same. While we ate, we kept looking up at each other. “I wonder, if I accidentally poured syrup down his chest would he let me lick it off.” I thought and blushed again. “What the hell am I thinking?”

“What are you thinking about? It must be pretty good since your face is all red again,” Jake teased.

“Nothing, absolutely nothing.” I tried to keep a straight face, but then syrup dripped off of his fork and onto his chest as he took the last bite of pancakes from his plate. “Mmmmm,” I said, licking my lips.

He looked up at me with a smirk. “Nothing...really?”

“Really…” He came around the island and turned my stool so he was standing between my legs. “Um...you have a little syrup right there.”

“Right where?”

I touched his chest as it was running down his pecs towards his nipple. He looked down. “Well, maybe you can help me clean it off.” He smirked.

I went to grab a napkin when he grabbed my wrist and started licking my fingers clean. I closed my eyes while he continued to suck them one by one. I then leaned forward and started at the bottom of the syrup trail and licked all the way to the top and back down. I started licking around his nipple, when there was a knock on the door. “Shit,” I heard him mumble.

He headed to the door, while I buttoned up his shirt I was wearing and started cleaning up the kitchen. Thank God the shirt covered down to my mid-thighs as he came back to the kitchen with another man.

“Who do we have here?” the man came in and looked me up and down.

“Jordan, this is Stacy. Stacy, this is Jordan.” Jake introduced us, still looking slightly upset at our interruption. Jake came over to me and put his around me to show Jordan who I belong to.

“Nice to meet you Jordan,” I offered my hand to shake.

“The pleasure is all mine,” Jordan replied as he kissed the back of my hand. Jake took my hand from Jordan and led me to the living room. “Hey man, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean anything by that.”

“So, what do we owe the pleasure of you coming here this morning?” Jake asked harshly.

“Now I have to have a reason? Geez, Jake, I thought I’d come by to see how you were. It’s been a week since I’ve heard much from you.”

“Jake, I’ll be right back. I’ll leave you two to talk.” I reached up and kissed Jake quick on the lips.

I went down to my room and grabbed a new outfit for the day or part of a new outfit. I chose a pair of skinny jeans, but kept Jake’s shirt on. I rolled up the sleeves since they were too long. I put on a pair of socks and went to the bathroom to finish my hair and wash my hands since I still had a little syrup left on them. I removed my jewelry from the night before and put them away. I then found my purse that I threw on the bed this morning and checked my phone. I saw the battery was low, so I put it on the charger. “Do I go back out there? Do I wait a little bit?” I debated with myself.

As I was coming down the hall, I heard the two of them still talking and stopped to listen.

“Jordan, I’ve never felt like this over anyone before.”

“Yeah, but how much do you know about her? Nothing...hell you told me she doesn’t remember anything about herself.”

“I know, I know. That’s the thing though, I may not know who she was, but I know who she is...now. We have this strange connection that I can’t explain, and I need to be here for her.”

“Have you found out anything to help her discover who she is? Have you done any missing person searches?”

“You know I have, but haven’t found out anything yet. I still have a private investigator looking into it as well. She is having some flashbacks, I think, but so far nothing to tell us who she is or what happened to her.”

“Flashbacks?”

“Yeah, the last few nights, she has been dreaming of things that are frightening her. I think they are memories resurfacing, but she can’t get anything concrete from it. Then last night, she completely phased out on me with a flashback, but I haven’t pressed her on what it was about.”

“Well, good luck on that. I’ll leave you two alone, but know that I’m here and will help in any way that I can.”

I decided to walk in at that time. “Hey guys.”

“Hey babe,” Jake said and reached out for me. “How much did you hear of that?” He looked at me as I strode over to him.

“A little bit,” I admitted. “Do you really have someone looking into discovering who I am?”

“I do. I told you that I would help in any way that I can. He’s looking into missing persons reports from the area and was looking at expanding since he hasn’t found anything yet.”

“Oh, OK.” I don’t know if I’m happy or sad about that. “Thank you.”

“Well, I’m going to take my leave and let you two be.” Jordan said as he started heading for the door.

“You don’t need to leave on my account Jordan,” I said. Jake looked down at me with eyes that told me to let him go.

“I only wanted to stop by to check on my man. I’ve gotta run, but we will catch up again...soon.” He looked at Jake and the two looked at each other with a silent code between them. Jordan opened the door and left.

“So, how long have you and Jordan been friends?” I asked as I sat down on the couch.

“Since we moved to the suburbs when I was about 13 or so after I got mom out of that horrible marriage. We met at school. Jordan’s parents were going through a divorce and we just connected. We’ve been best friends ever since.”

“Do you have a lot of friends?” I asked without thinking.

“No. I told you before, I like my privacy and like being alone. The only people that really know anything personal about me are my mom, sister and Jordan. And now you as well.”

“Can I ask you something else and please be honest with me?”

“Of course, but I’m skeptical to answer based on the second part of that question.” Jake sat down next to me and put his arm over the back of the couch and started playing with my hair.

“How many women have you been with? Dated, girlfriends, partners?” I looked down dreading the answer, but I needed to know.

“You really want to know?” I nodded my head. “OK, honestly, not many. I have had two serious girlfriends. One was in high school...we dated for about two years until I caught her cheating on me after the prom. I was one of the few guys in the school that had kept my virtue, if you will, and she didn’t want to wait any longer. I know, it’s usually the other way around. The second was in college...we were an on again, off again couple throughout the three years I was there. We either got along really well, or we were the worst enemies. She was the first girl I lost my virginity to and I admit, she was good in bed which is why we kept getting back together.”

“OK, too much information,” I smiled. Jake laughed.

“You said you wanted an honest answer. Anyways, when I graduated, we were off again and she moved on with someone new, while I moved deeper into the city and started working for my uncle. I focused all my energy on learning the company as I knew he wanted to retire and didn’t have any sons, so he was going to pass it on to me. I was 23 when he finally did. I really didn’t date anyone during those two years, but did get together with a group of people that hung out with Jordan and I. Jordan was more of the playboy between the two of us. He had a new girl nearly every weekend and loved to party. Then when I started making money and became who I am today, women started throwing themselves all over me. I never really gave them a second thought as I knew they only wanted one thing.”

“Your money?”

“My money.” He nodded. “I’ll admit that I have slept with a couple of women over the last few years, but nothing serious and I always used protection since I didn’t want a reason to bind myself to them. I had no desire to date or settle down with anyone. Then I met you.” He took my hand in his and looked into my eyes.

“Jake, you do believe me that I can’t remember who I am or my past, right?”

“Of course, why would you think? Oh, Jordan.” It clicked on something he said earlier.

“I could tell that he was skeptical of us, but I truly do not know anything. I do agree with you that these dreams are memories and I wish I could get more information from them, but I’m afraid to since they are horrible.”

He brought his hand that was playing with my hair to my face and rubbed my cheek. “The last thing I want is for you to relive those horrible moments, but know that I’m here if you need to talk to someone about them. There might be little things that could help my investigator narrow his search.”

“That’s the thing Jake. I do want to know who I am, but I’m not ready to face my past or leave you.”

“Who said anything about leaving me?”

“I don’t want to, but what if you find my family and they want to take me back to where they live? Maybe they live somewhere far from here.”

“Then we will figure out a way to visit them or have them come here to visit you as often as you want.”

I smiled. If only it were that easy.

“Thank you Jake, for being honest with me. I know it’s probably not easy to talk about other women with me, but I had to know, for my sake.”

“I’ll always be honest if you, but I ask for you to do the same. And don’t ever think that I’ll compare you to any of them. There is nothing to compare, you got that?”

I nodded and smiled up at him. He leaned down and kissed me and held me close.

The rest of the day went too fast. We sat up on the terrace for lunch and continued to talk. Jake told me more about his childhood, both the good and the bad. He told me about his company and what they do, how many employees he has and where some of his clients are located around the country and even around the world. I could listen to him all day and am so glad he is opening up to me...I can tell he has never been this open with anyone before.

After lunch, we went for a walk around the area. We live next to a preschool and a yoga studio on the other corner. There are a couple of restaurants nearby (Thai and Brazilian) and a Latin School. There are a couple of churches nearby and a bank across the street. We went to the Chicago History Museum for a few hours and stopped at the The Children’s Fountain next to the museum before coming back home. “Home...Can I call this place home? It’s starting to feel like home.” I smiled to myself.

The entire day, Jake has been smiling and laughing with me. I’m thinking that not only did I experience some of this for the first time, I think he has too. I loved seeing him like this and could only imagine feeling this way for a long time. We decided at the last minute to stop at the Brazilian cafe for dinner. The food was delicious, but I was now ready to go home. Jake and I walked hand in hand all the way to the door.

After getting inside, I kicked off my shoes and settled on the couch. Jake joined me and we decided to watch another movie together. Tomorrow he had to work and I would be alone all day, so I wanted to spend every minute with him as I could.

Next thing I know, I’m being carried to the bedroom. I opened my eyes just as Jake laid me down on his bed and began removing my jeans. He removed his clothes and joined me in bed. He gently kissed me and told me to rest. I laid my head on his chest and fell back to sleep.
