The Honeymoon

I woke up before Jake and tried to pry my way out of his arms.

“Where are you going baby?” he said in his sexy morning voice.

“I really need to pee, Jake,” I whined.

“Can’t you hold it so I can hold you longer?”

“Excuse me Jake, I can’t hold it. I have a baby pressing against it,” I reminded him.

“So that wasn’t a dream?” he mumbled.

I laughed at him, “No, it wasn’t. We really are having a baby, so I can please go now?”

“Yeah you can, but come back quickly.” I scooted off the bed and ran to the bathroom. I made it just in time.

As I was washing my hands, Jake walked into the bathroom and did his business. “Jake!! Couldn’t you wait until I was finished here?”

“Why baby, it’s not you haven’t seen it before,” he chuckled. I smiled and just shook my head.

I decided to brush my teeth, so I went out to grab my toiletry bag and returned to the bathroom. We both brushed our teeth and jumped in the shower. After a quickie in the shower, we cleaned up, dried ourselves off and got dressed for the day.

Of course, Jake would have rather gone back to bed, but I reminded him that we have family waiting for us for breakfast. He told me they can wait, but I told him the quicker we eat, say goodbye to everyone and get all our stuff dropped off at home, we can begin our two weeks of bliss. That got him moving.

We made sure everything was packed up and my dress and his tux were put in a dress bag, we headed to the lobby of the hotel. Dylan was already there and loaded everything in the car. He apparently took the gifts home already last night and had brought our other suitcase along that was going with us on our honeymoon. All he had to do was take the wedding clothes back to the house after taking us to the airport.

We met up with all my family and Jake’s family in the dining area and enjoyed a delicious buffet style breakfast together. We talked about the day before and recapped several emotional moments of the day. We were told to have a great time in Hawaii, but not too great of a time without all of them with us. After breakfast, we said our goodbyes and gave everyone hugs.

Not only were we heading to the airport, my family from North Dakota were flying out today as well. My other family left to drive back to Wisconsin and Jake’s family and friends drove home. We arrived at the airport and said our final goodbyes to my parents, Sarah and Ian, and my extended family that came to the wedding. We headed to our gate and waited for First Class to be called to board the plane.

After boarding the plane, Jake put our carry on bags in the overhead compartment and we settled into our seats. I kept a book out and had my phone with music ready to go in my purse that was wrapped over my shoulder. Jake had his tablet out, but I told him it had better be used to read or play games, he wasn’t to do any work for the next two weeks.

As we were flying past the mainland, I looked out the window to the water below. This was the first time I flew over water and was a little nervous. Jake had his arm wrapped around me and rubbed his thumb up and down my arm to help calm me. It helped a lot to have him there. I then looked down at my left hand and played with my rings and smiled.

“What are you thinking about?” Jake asked me as he took my hand and rolled the rings with his thumb and fingers.

“Just how blessed I truly am Jake,” I replied and looked up at him and put my hand over his to play with his ring. “I mean, a year ago I was nearly dead and had no life when I came to. If it wasn’t for you and all that you have done for me, who knows where I would be right now. I am so grateful that you came into my life and found a way to love me even when I couldn’t love myself.”

“Baby, I’ve loved you from the moment I carried you to my car and you looked up at me and smiled before passing out. I didn’t realize it at the time of course, and it was you that taught me to love and I am truly blessed as well.” He kissed my forehead and I laid my head on his shoulder as we continued to play with each other’s fingers.

I must have fallen asleep as the next thing I hear is the captain announcing our arrival in Honolulu. I sat up and stretched as Jake did the same. We gathered up our things to be ready for when we can exit the plane. As we came to a stop, Jake grabbed our carry on bags and put his tablet and my book away and we walked down the stairs of the plane to the tarmac.

We gathered our luggage and headed out of the airport. As we exited, we were welcomed by several women who put a lei around our necks and greeted us with “Aloha.” It was absolutely stunning here and the weather was perfect. We found our transport that will take us to our first resort and boarded the bus. Our plan was to visit most of the main islands over the course of two weeks staying at a resort on each island.

Our first several days were in Honolulu on the island of Oahu. We stayed at a grand resort that overlooked the ocean. Our days were spent exploring everything the island had to offer. We visited the Pearl Harbor Memorial and USS Arizona one day, we spent an afternoon on Waikiki Beach sunbathing and swimming in the ocean, shopping at the local markets and going for hikes around the island. Our nights were spent making endless love until the early morning hours.

We visited the island of Kauai and hiked the cliffs and gardens throughout the island. We visited the cascading waterfalls and even went zip lining over its lush valleys. In Maui, we spent a lot of time on the beaches or went snorkeling in the beautiful waters surrounding the island. We went whale watching one day, but only caught a glimpse of a couple under the water levels.

In Lanai, we visited the dolphins at Hulopoe Beach and saw some sea turtles. Jake did a little golfing while I sunbathed on the beach. We walked around the island and just enjoyed each other’s company. In Molokai, we took a guided tour of the cliffs by Kalaupapa National Historical Park, visited with several native islanders and learned their way of living. It felt nice to go at their pace, rather than rushing all the time like we do on the mainland.

Our last island we stayed at was the big island of Hawaii. We visited a pineapple plantation and a coffee farm. We also took a hike to Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea Volcanoes and visited the beautiful valleys and waterfalls. There was so much to do there and by the end of the two weeks were ready for a vacation from our vacation. The best part of the trip was being able to spend all my time with the love of my life without having to worry about work, family, our past or anything else. Our last night on the island, we attended a Luau complete with a pig roast, music, dancing, fire breathing and so much more!

By the end of the two weeks, I was so tan; most people wouldn’t have recognized me after how pale I was a year ago. It was so wonderful to be out in the sun after years and years of being trapped in a basement with very little natural light.

“Jake?” I grabbed his attention as we were cuddling on the balcony of our hotel room.

“Yeah babe?” he responded.

“Thank you. Thank you for all of this. I have had the best time of my life and I owe it all to you.”

“This has been the best time of my life as well Stace. Thank you for agreeing to be a part of this and choosing to spend the rest of our lives together to continue to do things like this.”

“You do know that I would be just as happy cuddling back home and sitting around the house as long as we are together? I don’t need all the fancy things and over the top hotels to be happy, although I won’t turn it down,” I laughed as I said that.

“I do know that and I would be too, but I love getting the chance to explore with you. I’ve traveled on business many times, but I’ve never truly enjoyed my surroundings and I want to do that with you.”

“That does sound great, but now that we are soon to be parents, the traveling might not happen all that often,” I said with a smile.

“We still have some time, and we can always take the kids with us, or plan trips they will enjoy.”

“You say that now baby, you say that now,” I laughed again and leaned up for a kiss.

After another night of love making, we headed back to Honolulu to board our plane home.
