Chapter 1

“I have to say, Arlow, I'm utterly disappointed in you.”

Arlow could feel his heart beating wildly inside his chest and he knew exactly what was going to happen.

For the first time in his life he would definitely get detention.

"I’m afraid I’ll need to call your parents to tell them that you’ll have to stay longer at school. You’ll have to stay for detention."

See? There it was.

“I...I understand. I’m so sorry,” Arlow said, feeling so ashamed of what he’d done.

“Why did you do it? You’re one of my best students and that’s what makes this all the harder for me to do.”

Arlow felt horrible. What had he been thinking? He just couldn’t handle the pressure anymore. So many extra classes. Always scoring high points, always being top of the class. Cause for a beta like him, that’s all he could shine in.

He wasn’t strong or protective like an alpha was. He wasn’t beautiful or desirable like an omega either. He was just plain, but at least he was smart. And he wanted to keep that image--being the smart one. Especially because he had just started the semester at Saltlake high.

What he had done yesterday was a dumb thing. So stupid!

“I didn’t have time to study for the test because I took so many extra classes,” Arlow explained while he had to fight back his tears. He felt like such a failure. “So, when I sat the test answers laying on your desk, I couldn’t help myself. It was as if my hands just acted out of their own. I feel awful, and I’m so, so sorry.”

Miss Moira shook her head. She gently patted Arlow’s shoulder. “It’s ok to make mistakes on your test just like it’s ok to not always score an A+, but it’s not ok to steal and cheat.”

“I’ll never do it again,” Arlow said with a trembling voice.

“I know you won’t.” Miss Moira said. "I know you're a good boy... When all your classes are over, go to the detention classroom.”

“For God’s sake, Kody!”

Kody rolled his eyes at the voice of his principal. “What?!”

“What? What?! You know the school rules. No smoking on school property!” The director plucked the cigarette out of Kody’s mouth and dumped the white stick on the ground stepping on it with the sole of his shoe. “I’ve had it with you, mister!” he said while he pulled Kody at his collar with both hands. “You can stay for detention!”

“Fine. Like I care…” Kody replied.

“Ok, we’re going to be like that? You just earned yourself 2 days of detention instead of 1.”

“Why don’t you just give me a whole week, old man?”

The principal was fuming at the behavior of the young alpha. Kody knew he had always turned his head the other way when he misbehaved, not wanting to piss off his father, the famous business tycoon Kirk Summers, but he also knew that the principal couldn’t ignore this bad behavior any longer.

“Don’t think your father will get you out of this one, young man!”

“Like I said, fine by me. I don’t need my father!” Kody yelled back while yanking the principal's hands away from his collar. “And get your hands off me!”

Surprisingly, only 2 students were sitting in the detention classroom that afternoon.

Arlow couldn't help but repeatedly look away from his homework to look at the careless behavior of the other student. The blonde alpha leaned back in his chair, his black ankle boots relaxing on top of his table, while he looked out of the window while blowing an occasional bubble of gum until it popped.

Arlow knew the other's name was Kody, of course he knew, even though Kody and he weren't from the same class, everybody knew Kody...

The truth was that Kody was one of those people that you had to look at when they passed you by. One of those boys that all the girls wanted and all the boys wanted to be. Or maybe boys wanted him too.

The teacher wasn't in the classroom anymore, since he had to attend some team meeting.

When the man had announced that he would be out for an hour or so, Arlow had felt a little bit scared to be left alone in a classroom with no one else but Kody, but the alpha hadn't said or done anything bad to him.

Kody stretched his body and sighed out loud. "Like what you see?" he asked.

Arlow quickly looked at the sheets of paper that laid on his desk when Kody stood up, and walked towards his table, sitting himself down at the table in front of him.

"I... I'm A-Arlow," the beta stuttered.

"Don't care," Kody replied before he ripped out a page from Arlow's notebook.

Arlow was glad that it was a blank page and not one of his precious notes.

The alpha started to fumble a little paper ball and tossed it at Arlow, who had proceeded with reading again, or at least he tried. It didn't really work though when someone's bombarding you every few seconds with balls of paper.

After the 10th time, Arlow asked, "Can you maybe stop that? Please?"

"Why would I?" Kody asked and he stuffed some paper in his mouth, chewed it, and threw a little spitball at Arlow's face.

"Because it's annoying."

"Not to me."

"Well, it is for me," Arlow whispered.

Kody sighed. "Fine... I'm Kody."

Arlow wanted to reply with "I already know who you are." But instead, he said, "Hello, Kody."

"So, why are you here?" The alpha asked.

"I made a mistake. I sorta...cheated... I found some test answers and took them with me..."

Kody started to laugh. "That's so much worse than having a smoke."

"You're in here for smoking?"

"Yeah... You want a cig?"

"No! Of course not!"

"Haha, well, lucky cause I couldn't offer you one anyway, they confiscated my pack."

10 minutes later, Kody sighed out loud. "Jeez, this is boring! And you're no fun either!"

"We aren't here for fun. We're here for work and thinking about the things we did wrong," Arlow replied.

"Ok, I wanted to suggest we make out but since you're such a bore, I think I don't even wanna anymore."

"Make... M-make out?" Arlow stuttered. Did he hear that correctly?

"Yeah, you know, fool around a little. Kissing, cop a feel." Kody answered.

That alpha was truly so shameless!

"I...I don't wanna m-make out with you," Arlow said, wondering if that was the truth or not. It might have been a lie.

"You don't? I thought you were ogling me earlier." Kody said, leaning in, his face coming closer and closer to Arlow's flushed one. "You were doing it for a long time. Thinking I didn't notice, but I did... I noticed."

Arlow leaned as far back as he could, till his chair tipped over and he fell to the ground, straight on his ass, looking at Kody with wide and shocked eyes.

Did he really just blow this chance to receive his first-ever kiss?!
