Not your Luna

“Get those files right now. Whoever was friends with Lazarus and Ryker is involved with Katrina,” I yelled over the phone to Kyros.

I was starting to go crazy with Mia being so distant. I was not mad at her, I never was. I was mad at myself and at Katrina more than anything.

Mia did what she had to do. But in the heat of the moment, I blamed her for not acting civil. I promised her I wouldn’t leave her side but did so anyway, and when things took a turn and she gave Katrina a taste of her own medicine I basically told her she wasn’t Luna material, which was far from the truth. She was made for that role.

I sighed and looked up at the ceiling. We hadn’t talked for two days and I was doing what I did best. I drowned myself in my work.

When Mia first moved in, I had banished both Lazarus and Ryker who were meant to be my guards. But it turned out they were controlled by Katrina and with the way they handled Mia, I sent them away and never heard from them again. It had never crossed my mind that there’d be more of them, but Katrina was an expert brainwasher and I found out there were more. So that was what I was working on while Mia slowly distanced herself. I was trying to eliminate any other threat that was facing her way.

“Damian!” I jumped when Celeste stalked into my office and slammed the door behind her.

“What the fuck Celeste,” I hissed and took a deep breath. I had no idea what got into her to walk into my home office like that. No one disturbed me in my office.

“Why did you yell at her? Are you insane?” She half yelled and threw her hands around.

“At the meeting, why did you tell her she wasn’t acting like a Luna?” She asked and stood in front of my desk. If looks could kill I’d be dead.

I sighed and began running my hand through my hair. “I don’t know.”

“What the fuck is wrong with you Damian? You bring her here against her will, she starts to warm up to you and then you tell her she isn’t acting like a Luna when Katrina humiliates her in front of everyone. You’re lucky she acted the way she did because I would have done much worse.”

“I don’t know. Damn it, Celeste,” I snapped and stood up from my chair. “I’m so fucking lost. We don’t talk. We fight more than we talk, it’s almost like it’s all we know. And right before the meeting her father gave me a long speech and then within the next few minutes you hear their voices screaming at each other.”

“But was it her fault?” She asked slowly.

“You better go apologize or I’ll smack you so hard. Have you lost your mind?” She said and threw her hands up. “And you want her to open up to you when you act like that.” She laughed.

“Stop yelling,” I mumbled and tried to calm the headache she was giving me. She was right, but her voice was going to drive me crazy.

I raised an eyebrow and looked at her. Celeste saw Mia as a sister and was just as protective of her as I was. But for her to talk to me like that . . . That was totally new.

“No?” I repeated.

“Because of the way you acted she thinks you brought her here just to get rid of Katrina. Which I know is not true, but how would she know? You’re damaging her and you don’t even know it.”

“Celeste shut up. I don’t need you making me feel even worse about this situation right now,” I mumbled and walked around her and straight to the door.

“Where are you going?” She asked.

“To see Mia,” I answered and shut the door behind me, leaving her inside.

I sighed as I made my way upstairs where Mia had been spending most of her time in the living room.

She was curled on the couch with a fluffy blanket, a bowl of popcorn, and a movie playing on the tv which I wasn’t sure if she was even watching.

“Mia,” I called and walked over to sit in the little room left beside her feet. She hummed and gave me a side look before returning her gaze to the tv.

“Can we talk?” I asked and watched her reach for the mute button before sitting up. She sat facing my way with her knees tucked under her chin, waiting for me to speak.

I sighed and mentally cursed myself for putting myself in that situation. If I had just reasoned with her and talked to her we would have been fine, but we were both stubborn and refused to talk.

“I’m sorry for raising my voice and blaming you for what happened at the meeting. I’m not mad at you, I never was,” I said and immediately felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders.

“Okay,” She mumbled and continued to sit there silently. I stared at her and then at the tv. I hated the quiet Mia, I wanted her to talk to me or even yell like she always did, but she just sat there like a statue.

“Fuck Mia it’s not okay. Talk to me,” I said, feeling slightly irritated but not at her.

“I don’t know what you want me to say. You’re sorry, okay good, what else do you want to hear from me?” She said and sat upright.

“I don’t know, just say something. I hate this, I hate it so fucking much and I hate not talking to you.”

“It was your fault, not mine. You should have thought about it before telling me I was ruining your image when you’re the one that dragged me into your life. I told you I didn’t want it, but you insisted, and then when things didn’t go your way, you got pissed and blamed me,” she said, shutting me up completely as I stared at her, wondering how long she’d been waiting to say that to me.

“I’m not mad at you. You have every right to be mad at me for what I did, but I was never mad at you. I don’t know why I let out my anger on you,” I said and stood up. I couldn’t handle sitting down on that couch any longer or I would have exploded. I needed to breathe.

“Then why did you decide we were going to meet the elders?” She asked with a raised eyebrow. “I mean if you’re not mad at me, why did you say we were going to go as if it was a punishment for what I did.”

“What? Mia no, it was never a punishment. I said we were going to go because we don’t really have a choice, we have to go whether we want to or not.” I sighed and looked at her. She was looking at me with a frown as if she didn’t believe me.

I pressed my lips together and shook my head. I wanted her to talk, didn’t I?

“I’m not lying. What if I told you I have an idea of what they are going to tell us and that’s why I’m not afraid.” I kept my gaze on her. Watching as her frown morphed into a look of confusion and a crease formed between her brows.

“What is it?” She asked but I just shook my head with a smirk and plopped down beside her. “You’ll find out,” I said and saw her purse her lips into a cute little pout. I wasn’t going to tell her because I knew she would refuse to go. She had a habit of doubting herself so the best thing to do was to let her go and hear it from the elders herself.

“Goddess.” I groaned, “come here,” I mumbled and pulled her body flush against mine. She shrieked when I dropped her on her back and nuzzled my face into her neck, taking in her scent that I had missed so much.

“None of it was your fault and Katrina deserved more than what you gave her,” I mumbled and heard a soft laugh coming from her.

Her eyes fluttered shut as my nose nuzzled against her soft skin, earning a shiver from her. I groaned and inhaled deeply, burying my face into her hair as she let out a soft whimper. “I can’t stand being away from you,” I mumbled and noticed her swallowing nervously.

“You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” I said softly and pulled away from her just enough so that I could look into her deep green eyes. I lifted my hands up and cupped her face softly, admiring her beauty and wondering how lucky I was to have her as a mate. I softly brushed my thumb over the slight blush on her cheeks and smiled to myself. In her blush was a genuine sweetness I’d been craving all my life.

I could hear her heart pounding against her chest as she stared ever so deeply into my eyes. “I’ll never get enough of you,” I thought out loud, pressing a kiss to the corner of her pink lips.

“Damian.” She breathed out and gripped my arm with shaky fingers. I hummed against her skin, purposely brushing her skin with my lips as I did so.

“T-Training,” she stuttered and shut her eyes. I smiled to myself and shook my head, loving the effect I had on her.

“You were watching a movie, you don’t train for another three hours.” I smirked. She had no escape.

“Yes but I need to get ready, you know like s-stretch, it’s important,” she said while biting her lip and looking at me through her lashes. She was trying to find an excuse to escape, but I wasn’t letting her go.

“You don’t stretch for an hour,” I grumbled and pulled her face closer to mine, making her gasp as she tried to calm her breathing. My mind was somewhere else. My heart was filled with a desire that would not allow me to let her go. Ever.

I bent down, softly trailing my lips from her jaw down to the bottom of her neck before trailing back up to press a kiss on her lips. She shivered and gripped my arm tighter when I sunk my fingers into her hair. “I d-do,” she tried to sound normal but her voice sounded like she was about to explode.

I pulled away and looked at her with a raised eyebrow before my eyes flickered down to her lips. I ignored her horrible excuse to escape and bent down, taking her lips gently into mine. Our lips molded together perfectly as our chests pressed together, letting us feel how hard our hearts were beating against our chests.

I had kissed Mia before, but this . . . This was different, she was letting me in, she was accepting me and kissing me back, not pushing me away and denying what she wanted.

Her lips were moving against mine with a passion to the point where I forgot that I needed to breathe. The only thought in my mind was the need to be close to her and have her in my arms forever.

I pulled away from her, taking a deep breath and her doing the same as a sheepish smile landed on her face. I began trailing kisses all over her jaw and neck, groaning and torturing her with pleasure as she did to me.

“You’re still not forgiven.” She panted as she watched me place a final kiss on her slightly parted lips before sitting up and pulling her with me. She was straddling me which didn’t help the growing tent forming in my pants, but I ignored it and focused on her soft breaths as she rested her head against my chest. I shut my eyes and wrapped my arms around her, enjoying her warmth as she relaxed further into my chest.

Her heart was back to being steady as her fingers traced my sides. I had never felt so calm in my life and I never wanted that feeling to go away. I never wanted to hurt her again.

Her head tilted and I could feel her looking at me. I opened my eyes and was met with beautiful green eyes full of lust and adoration and I almost lost it. I wanted to mark her, I wanted her to be mine already but she wasn’t ready and I respected that despite the way it complicated things.

Her cheeks were burning red as her mouth opened and closed. “What?” I whispered as I hooked my hands behind her back, encouraging her to say what she wanted to.

“If I was marked and mated, would the elders still be able to do this?” She asked in a really soft voice. “Would they still be able to force you to choose her?”

I sighed, hating the fact that Katrina was always like a huge wall between us and always on our minds. “Without the Luna ceremony, yes. I never would though.”

She pouted and looked at me with furrowed brows, trying to make sense of my words. “I don’t understand. It doesn’t make sense to me. I know they arrange the Luna ceremony and give blessings or whatever. But what kind of elders would force their Alpha to be with someone who would make him weak. I mean you have me and being away from me would make you weak. Shouldn’t they want what’s best?”

“When the elders hate you anything is possible,” I said and saw her frown.

“I still don’t understand . . .” She mumbled. “You are the Alpha. Not them. Why do they have so much power over you? You’re meant to lead here, not follow their stupid rules,” she said before pausing and shaking her head.

“Elders are supposed to support the pack. They are supposed to give advice, not orders. This doesn’t add up to me. What happens if you don’t listen to them? You’re the one that decides ranking, courting, and banishments.”

I suddenly found myself smiling and she looked at me like I was crazy. She was talking like a Luna. She was thinking about the pack and it made me so happy that she was finally accepting them as her pack too.

“Why are you smiling?” She asked, tilting her head in the process.

“You sound like a Luna,” I said and moved my hands to her hips. She pressed her lips together and tried to bite back her smile but failed miserably.

“You didn’t answer my question though, what happens if we don’t listen,” she said and pointed at my chest.

“I don’t know, I never tried. But I’m sure it’ll be seen as defiance,” I said and saw her face contort into one of disgust.

“Defiance? I am your mate.”

Mia was saying so many things that made me question my entire role as Alpha. She made me realize how weak I was. I just accepted the fact that the elders were controlling me and never questioned it when I should have a long time ago. I had the power and the title, yet I was always listening to what they had to say and showing them the respect they didn’t deserve?

I frowned and dropped my head back. “Listen Mia. I told you they won’t hurt us. We are going to go to their pointless meeting for now, and then I’ll deal with this bullshit.”

“I have an idea, I don’t know if you’re going to like it,” she said and bit her lip. “Get rid of them.”

“What do you mean get rid of them . . .” I asked.

“I don’t mean kill them.” She rolled her eyes. “Blue moon have no elders and the pack is fine. You don’t need elders. You’re the Alpha, banish them.”

I just stared at her, not knowing what to say. I had never even considered anything close to that but now it sounded very inviting.

I got lost in my thoughts as I plotted the entire thing. The elders were like royals in a way. They existed for many years but I happened to lead during the years where they were useless and a corrupt organization. They were destroying me just to satisfy Edwin and I couldn’t wait to abolish them.

“Damian?” Mia called and got off my lap. I shook my head and looked up at her to find her looking at me with worried eyes.

“Let’s do this.” I smiled and got up to take her hand in mine.

Kyros had told me what he thought the elders were planning for me and Mia and one of my guards confirmed it. Their plan was stupid and I was more than excited to participate. And once that was done, they were not going to exist and I did not need their blessings for Mia to be my Luna. I had the people I needed by my side.
