Not your Luna

I placed Mia on the couch of our backroom and just stared at her face. I watched her slightly parted lips as she let out soft breaths. I was worried about a girl I just met which was just utterly strange.

“Is this normal? Do we just let her lay here and wait?” I asked once it hit me that she was blacked out. “I’ve never seen a werewolf faint.”

“It’s fine. She doesn’t exactly like these events, she was overwhelmed,” her mom, Luna Willow said and I slowly nodded, returning my gaze to Mia. It didn’t make sense. Something must have triggered her because werewolves do not just faint when they are overwhelmed. But I wasn’t going to question them.

Just her scent created the most welcoming haze for my weary brain to rest in. Her scent was what I’d been seeking for years. She was breathtaking. Goddess, she was captivating. But Edwin managed to freak her out so much that she fainted.

“What was Edwin fucking saying to her?” I snapped out of nowhere. Just the thought of him being close to her made me and my wolf Arnou uneasy. I hated the thought of any man close to her, but Edwin was the worst of all.

“I don’t know I just saw her shaking.” My sister Celeste shrugged. “But Damian…” She paused, sighing. “Everyone saw you carry her.”

I closed my eyes and mentally cursed everything that has ever happened to me. Why couldn’t I have found Mia earlier? Where was she when I went to visit Alpha Dominic multiple times? The Moon Goddess decided to let us find each other only when things were complicated.

“What is this? Who is Edwin to you?” Alpha Dominic asked. Celeste looked at me and slowly backed away into a corner. Like it was my own problem to deal with.

“He’s Katrina’s father,” I said and ran my hand through my hair.

“And Katrina is who?” Luna Willow asked with a raised eyebrow.

I sighed and looked back at Mia’s still body before turning back to them. Knowing damn well they were not going to like what I tell them. “The elders chose her as my Luna. Edwin convinced them that I’d never find my Luna and that Katrina was most eligible.”

“So you already have a Luna…” They both said at the same time. I swallowed my anger, knowing it was not a good look on me. I would rather die before making Katrina my Luna or calling her mine.

“She’s not my fucking Luna. Mia is,” I half yelled and pointed at the couch where she was. “I hate Katrina, she and her father are going to ruin this pack. Never call her a Luna. There is a reason I have been staling the Luna ceremony. I was trying to find her,” I said, all while focusing on staying in control.

“Reject Mia. She’s not getting mixed up in this,” Alpha Dominic said out of nowhere. Celeste and Luna Willow both gasped and I just stood there trying to comprehend his words. First, Mia was in denial that we were mates. Second, her father tells me to reject her.

“What? You have no say in that,” Luna Willow said and shook her head.

“You want our only daughter to get mixed up in this Luna mess? Do you not see how messy this sounds?”

“You don’t tell me who to reject,” I growled and took a few steps closer to him.

“Guys stop,” Celeste said and nodded her head towards the couch where Mia was stirring awake. I shook my head, trying to forget my anger as I made my way towards the couch. She was slowly blinking her eyes open as her nose twitched. Undoubtedly registering the unfamiliar yet inviting scent in the room.

“Mia has already been through so much. If you ruin her life I will ruin your pack and you'll regret this Victory celebration. She’s the only daughter I have left so don’t try and act all Alpha on me.” Alpha Dominic pulled me back, making sure only I heard.

I nodded and completely avoided his gaze. I watched Mia mumble things before lifting her gaze up and looking at me with dreamy eyes which was slightly embarrassing since her parents were around.

“Wait what is he doing here?” She asked as reality hit her and a frown took over her features. I sighed and rolled my eyes. Unsure why I was expecting her to suddenly want me after her little nap.

“We should head home, you’ve missed enough of your celebration. we’ll be in the car,” Luna Willow said before walking out and pulling Alpha Dominic with her. Celeste gave me a goofy grin before walking out too. Leaving us alone.

Mia pretended that nothing was wrong and began walking towards the door. I quickly stood in front of it, blocking her way and earning a glare from her.

“What is with you and blocking my way?” She asked.

“What is with you and running away from me?” I raised an eyebrow.

“I told you to reject me,” she said and looked into my eyes. I looked into hers for a while without saying a word. They were like green lights that could shine in any night, but I didn’t miss the hint of fear in them. Like she was afraid I could see through her.

“Why?” I asked and took a step closer to her. “Why do you pretend you feel nothing when I can hear your heart banging harder against your chest whenever I get closer. I can see your breath hitch and the goosebumps on your arms,” I whispered against her ear.

She let out a soft breath and I pulled back to find her face flushed and her eyes wide as saucers. “Damian, what are you doing?” She whispered and took a few steps back.

“What is it you’re scared of?” I asked.

She shook her head and looked everywhere but at me. “I need to go,” she mumbled and pushed me to the side before rushing out the door.

I just stared at the door, her touch still lingering on my body and her scent engulfing me in a warm embrace. She had no idea how much I needed her and just how long I’d been looking for her.

Katrina managed to manipulate the entire pack into loving her. She made everyone play her game and was prancing around calling herself Moonstone’s Luna. Organizing events and many bullshit celebrations hoping to earn people’s love.

All she wanted was the power to herself and her father. Celeste and I had spent so long trying to find a loophole, something to prove I didn’t need a Luna had I not found mine, but we failed.

Mia was the light to the darkness I was stuck in. But I could tell something was holding her back. I saw the lust in her eyes and the attraction between us was undeniable, but she seemed like she would be hard to crack. There was something holding her back. Something that happened to her and she was afraid I found out.

Carrying Mia to the backroom in front of everyone wasn’t the brightest idea. My pack, Edwin, and Katrina would not be welcoming to the thought of another Luna. But I wasn’t going to push my mate away because of them.

There was one question swirling in my head though. Was I going to be putting her in danger and ruining her life?

“Who is she?” Katrina barged into the backroom with a hand on her hip. Her face reflecting the anger inside her and I had no doubt she knew exactly who or what Mia was to me.

“It doesn’t concern you. I told you not to talk to me when no one is around. Play your little game when people are watching,” I said and made my way around her and out the door.

I hardly slept that night I met Damian. Then the entire day after that… And the night after. Two nights of staying wide awake, seeing those eyes and craving his touch whenever I closed my eyes.

My parents, me, and Maven were all sitting around the breakfast table silently when my mother cleared her throat and put down her fork.

“I invited him over for lunch,” she said. My eyes widened as I looked up at her. My appetite long gone as I sat there, baffled.

“Damian?” I asked even though I knew the answer.

“Yes, Mia. You need to stop running away from everything. You had more than a day to let it sink in.”

“I’m not running away. You know exactly why I can’t be with him,” I yelled and shot up from my seat.

“Willow… Mia, it’s okay, calm down,” my dad said. They kept looking at each other as if they were having a silent conversation while I stood there with anger radiating off me.

“I’m gonna go,” Maven whispered and literally ran out. Leaving me alone with them. They probably expected my reaction to be different with her around. But she was my best friend, she knew everything.

“Is this why you invited me and Maven over for breakfast?” I scoffed and ran my fingers through my hair.

“Mia, listen. You know how much an Alpha needs his destined Luna, we’ve told you. Especially now that he’s met you, leaving you will make him weaker,” my mom said with a soft voice.

“Dad… You agree with this?” I asked. Hopefulness in my voice as I waited for his reply. After knowing the horrible things I went through he was the most protective person of me. I expected him to side with me.

“I don’t like this any more than you do. But Damian is being forced to take another Luna. A Luna who wants nothing but power and has no interest in the pack,” he paused. “If I was forced to take another female as my Luna even though I’ve met your mom this pack wouldn’t be where it is now.”

“I have a training schedule during lunch. He can have lunch with you two.” I shook my head and began walking out. “Fuck this,” I mumbled to myself and almost made it out the hallway of the packhouse when I bumped on someone hard as a brick.

The flutter I felt in my stomach and Aurora's purring told me who it was before I even looked up.

“Mia,” he said with a slight bow of the head. That voice doing unspeakable things to me.

I tried avoiding his eyes. Those piercing eyes that would take me into a world of unwanted daydreams and fantasies. “I’m busy,” I said and tried to walk away from him.

“I came here for you and you’re running away,” he said and pulled me back. The sudden grab lifting my heart and soul.

“It’s not lunchtime yet. You’re the one that has awful timing now if you would please let me go,” I said and tried to pull my arm but his hold didn’t even loosen due to his damned Alpha build.

“Damian let go of my arm right now!” I hissed.

“Not until you look at me,” he said with a low growl. Like the fact that I was looking everywhere but at his handsome face bothered both him and his wolf.

I continued looking at the door when his other hand gripped my chin and he forced me to look at him. My eyes unwantedly locked with his and I felt like all air was sucked out of my lungs.
